An ESPN interviewed program producer who has done the Boston Marathon coverage for years remembered walking around out side at the finish line area about 11:00AM today and being surprised by seeing three different Police Dept dog sniffing teams going over and over the finish line area.
He thought that was "very through" and did not remember ever seeing it done before.
He mentioned that the bomb could have been brought in later and set on an overhead walkway where it went off.
So the police may have received a threat. But their careful checking still left a 3 hour window for a bomb in a back pack to be dropped off.
That MO is similar to the Atlanta Olympic bomber's. I hope it is not another Abortion Vigilante.

exiledonmainst said... Oh, that's "traditional guy" hoping it's not an anti-abortion nut,not "reasonable."
My mistake.
I remain reasonable.
My point, which remains valid whoever is ultimately shown to be responsible, is that targeting a particular ethnic group as the villans in this story on the basis of zero evidence is reprehensible. I don't listen to NPR or watch MSNBC. I do read Drudge and saw his links to the the NY Post and they pissed me off. Both sites where clearly pushing a particular line. Drudge, much later, included links to CBS and NBC but if you follow the links the information on those sites is both back page and quite ambiguous.
Drudge and the Post were clearly rabble rousing by targeting a minor ethnic group, which is a form of bullying that I find particularly cowardly. Even rags like theirs should maintain some standards during these kinds of events. That there were idiots on the left doing something similar may also be true but it doesn't invalidate my disgust at the behavior of Drudge and the Post.
Chef Mojo said... And that is not a sophisticated attack.
What the hell does "sophistication" have to do with anything?
Unsophisticated IEDs wreaked havoc on US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Unsophisticated Molotov Cocktails can take out tanks in the right hands.
Shrapnel loaded pipe bombs may not be "sophisticated" in your view, but if you just put the emphasis on the word "bomb," you might get a little understanding as to why you sound like a total moron.
Those unsophisticated devices in Boston shredded flesh and shattered bone. They killed and maimed. Terrorism isn't rocket science. ============ An excellent comeback at Drago and others that have embraced the meme of idiot liberal arts journalism majors that enemy attacks are either sophisticated and kill a lot of people and should be responded to or "unsophisticated" and kill a lot of people but because they are "unsophisticated attacks" are not something to be concerned about.....
Nor is the sophistication/non-sophistication matter only applicable to terrorism. Warfare employs sophisticated means, but it is also jihadis with fertilizer bombs and Marines gutting jihadis in close quarters with knives or clubbing the jihadi to death by banging his brains out on the floor.
In fact, the general rule in insurgencies and warfare is the simpler the manner and means of the attack, the better. And the less people involved in planning and executing an attack, the better.
[Update, 8:36 p.m. ET] Investigators have warned law enforcement officers to be on the lookout for a “darker-skinned or black male” with a possible foreign accent in connection with Monday’s bombings at the Boston Marathon, according to a law enforcement advisory obtained by CNN.
The man was seen with a black backpack and sweatshirt and was trying to get into a restricted area about five minutes before the first explosion, the lookout notice states.
Then again this is CNN and we know they aren't the least bit reliable.
That there were idiots on the left doing something similar may also be true but it doesn't invalidate my disgust at the behavior of Drudge and the Post.
Translation: Drudge is a meanie and I wish he didn't exist.
Just so we are clear on this, the original front page red emblazoned headlines regarding a Saudi national on the Post and Drudge web sites were quite clearly bogus.

Just so we are clear on this, the original front page red emblazoned headlines regarding a Saudi national on the Post and Drudge web sites were quite clearly bogus.
From CNN:
[Update, 8:55 p.m. ET] A Saudi national with a leg wound was under guard at a Boston hospital in connection with the bombings at the Boston Marathon, but investigators cannot say he is involved at this time and he is not in custody, a law enforcement official said Monday evening.
SOoooo.....ARM, if somebody put a gun to you're head and forced you to speculate on who caused this bombing and that he'd blow your brains out if you were wrong, exactly who would YOU nominate as the odds-on most likely?
"The race does not always go to the swift, nor the contest to the strong--but that's the way to bet"
"Just so we are clear. Your argument is that the Boston police commissioner is now lying to all news sources on the record. Is that correct?"
Have you ever seen a time when a cop might tell the media less than the entire whole truth?
And by the way: almost always when a person says "just so we are clear" it really means "I'm a pretentious asshole who's going to weasel out of whatever the argument is".
virgil xenophon said... SOoooo.....ARM, if somebody put a gun to you're head and forced you to speculate on who caused this bombing and that he'd blow your brains out if you were wrong, exactly who would YOU nominate as the odds-on most likely?
Normally I would have bet about 70:30 foreign versus domestic. Because of the date, which may be a pure coincidence, I would have raised the odds a little higher on the domestic for this one, but it still remains more likely that it is foreign.
But, it is not the job of the newspapers to insert their fucking prejudices into their front page headline, essentially inciting violence against a particular ethnic group, in the absence of any evidence.
Just so we are clear on this, the original front page red emblazoned headlines regarding a Saudi national on the Post and Drudge web sites were quite clearly bogus.
So "quite clearly" that CBS New backs up the Post with a detailed account of how a wounded Saudi national was apprehended.
How sad. The violence is in many places today. I'm over 50 and not concerned for myself, BUT OH what a world our children are facing. MORE IMAGES HERE !!! http://infonetorg.blogspot.ro/2013/04/boston-usa-marathon-bombing.html
OK, this is not the saddest story you will hear today, but whoever actually won the Marathon today is not going to make a lot of money in endorsement deals........it's too soon to say with certainty who's responsible, but it's not too soon to criticize people for rushing to judgement or for not seeing the nose in front of their face. It is by no means self evident what were the motivations of the bomber.
That the powers-that-be are being so coy suggests that the perpetrators are Muzzies. If that's the case, they will soft-pedal this atrocity to the utmost. Just like Cap...er...Major...uh....whatizname?
I pray that no Althouse commenter was injured in Boston today. The scenes of gore were harrowing for anyone, especially those who have experienced loss first-hand. May the days ahead bring us knowledge about who perpetuated this carnage on innocents. And may none suffer more because of it.
Most apt are and will be Benghazi comparisons for sundry reasons; some tragic in Gestalt type holistic thinking but most not.
Themes such as "CONSERVATIVE" v. "LIBERAL" have a theoretical death toll much like the "THEIST" or "OTHER THAN" construct I am amply happy to supply, for this world.
I'm just hoping for the time when we can actually obliterate the religion of peace of the face of the earth so this doesn't happen again. They have our number and we keep punching it.
I'm just hoping for the time when we can actually obliterate the religion of peace of the face of the earth so this doesn't happen again.
Death cults (of which wahhabism is) rarely win protracted conflicts, if that makes anyone feel better.
I don't think at this juncture Americans have the stomach for anything protracted. Fighting them until they are all dead? Where is the facebook time going to come from?
I suppose it is human nature to view any tragedy through the lenses of our political beliefs. As is obvious from this thread that seems to be the case.
Terrorism, no matter which side of the political spectrum is responsible, does not minimize the horror of it. It is, IMO, simply impossible to eliminate it unless we are willing to surrender all of our freedoms for security--and even then, a determined terrorist can inflict their carnage.
AReasonableMan said... Drudge, much later, included links to CBS and NBC but if you follow the links the information on those sites is both back page and quite ambiguous
Uh, Drudge didn't link to those stories "much later" nor were they "ambiguous" in any manner.
You are a silly ignorant person who takes to the Internet to say silly, ignorant things.
Guess which number Drudge went with on his front page.
The number of "adults" in Washington, DC?
Since you assured us yesterday the "adults" are now in charge, how do you think the parents of those children blown up yesterday feel about your silly assurances?
Since you assured us yesterday the "adults" are now in charge, how do you think the parents of those children blown up yesterday feel about your silly assurances?
Your attempt to enlist the dead and wounded on your "side" doesn't offend me. But you do creep me out.
Cui bono? When a US-born domestic terrorist like McVeigh murders people, everyone with a Gadsdenflag is considered a terror suspect for the next twenty years. When Muslim terrorists terrorize America they get F-16's and meetings with Congressional leaders.
First impression when I viewed a video of the tragedy: runners and fans scattering away from the blast (as they should); cops, national guard and emergency personnel running bravely towards the explosion area.
First impression when I viewed a video of the tragedy: runners and fans scattering away from the blast (as they should); cops, national guard and emergency personnel running bravely towards the explosion area
First views I had of cops showed most of them running away as well.
I did notice they got real brave once they rolled out the armored vehicles and automatic weapons though.
The brave people are the fellow spectators that did what they could to help, not knowing what might be happening next. There's a great picture of former Patriots OL Joe Andruzzi (cancer survior and brother of 9/11 FDNY heroes) carrying an injured person from the scene.
Cops are paid to be brave, most fail. Citizens are what make America great.
As opposed to what you--and every other Newtown licking freak--has done for the past couple of months?
Really, phx?
Do you ever get tired of being dishonest?
Okay, I'll give you one more chance to not be a complete jerkoff. Tell me what you're referring to that I did in my capacity as "Newton licking freak" the last couple of months.
It is, IMO, simply impossible to eliminate [terrorism] unless we are willing to surrender all of our freedoms for security.
Not so, we as a nation have to be willing to do some awful things to other people -- go Roman -- for security. And we don't even have the stomach for ethnic profiling.
Your attempt to enlist the dead and wounded on your "side" doesn't offend me
I'm not trying to enlist anyone on my "side" idiot.
I'm pointing out that your absurd contentions on the Internet should probably stop. Mainly because not 20 minutes after your silly, dipshit contention that the "adults" are now in Washington, an 8 year old was blown to bits in a terrorist attack in an American city.
Don't worry, you can ignore that and go back to pretending that I'm trying to "enlist" people.
phx said... Your attempt to enlist the dead and wounded on your "side" doesn't offend me.
It is funny you would type this and then go into blinkered self-delusion when the Newton, CT example is given.
Are you dishonest or merely dumb?
Hey, when a bunch of Democrats took to the airwaves to enlist the dead and wounded on their "side" the day of the Newton, CT murders, you were all creeped out right?
"The foreigner, who was badly burned, was in the United States on a student visa and is considered a person of interest and possible suspect in the case but has not been formally charged or arrested. The potential suspect is currently hospitalized.”

Oh, that's "traditional guy" hoping it's not an anti-abortion nut,not "reasonable."
My mistake.

There's a joke there but I don't think I'll go there.
I don't know how it is possible to protect everything. Suddenly, all kinds of security is being ratcheted up across the country.
Makes little sense from the actually protecting perspective. If there was something big in the wings, why telegraph it.
Anyway, this came from someones terse comment the cops can't protect you from everything.
A terrorist is a terrorist. Anti abortion vigilantes are proudly terrorists. But they are not right wing conservatives like myself who have never been insane...we are sanity itself crying out in the wilderness of murderous zealots whether from Saudi Arabia or from Michigan.
You're kidding RT @joebrooks: CNN's Wolf Blitzer just speculated if anti-tax groups were behind the bombing WITH ZERO EVIDENCE
Who needs evidence? Not our pathetic media.

Marshal, you criticize me for not critisizing NPR, when I haven't listened to NPR all day. Amazing.
And you haven't listened to Fox all day, yet managed to criticize them. Somehow when you want to criticize something you manage to find a way.
Just a reminder, Barack Obama's career was launched by a guy who wanted to do exactly the same thing that happened today to other innocent Americans.
Marshal, WTH are you blathering about?!
I love violent tragedies because they reinforce my existing political beliefs.
[Sociopaths everywhere.]
If we run and hide under the bed, they (whoever was behind this) win. We need to go on about our lives - not as though nothing happened - but with the knowledge that it can not be prevented. We mustn't lose our freedoms because of evil people. We mustn't let them win. If we aren't "terrorized" they lose their power. If local, state, or federal governmental entities try "reaction legislation" tell them NO!

To recap.
2 confirmed killed and dozens injured in what appears to be a coordinated terror attack on the US.

============
An excellent comeback at Drago and others that have embraced the meme of idiot liberal arts journalism majors that enemy attacks are either sophisticated and kill a lot of people and should be responded to or "unsophisticated" and kill a lot of people but because they are "unsophisticated attacks" are not something to be concerned about.....
Oh dear God, Lem. I thought you were deceased.
Don't give up... keep praying.
From the main story on CNN:
[Update, 8:36 p.m. ET] Investigators have warned law enforcement officers to be on the lookout for a “darker-skinned or black male” with a possible foreign accent in connection with Monday’s bombings at the Boston Marathon, according to a law enforcement advisory obtained by CNN.
The man was seen with a black backpack and sweatshirt and was trying to get into a restricted area about five minutes before the first explosion, the lookout notice states.
Then again this is CNN and we know they aren't the least bit reliable.
Check that..
AP says 3 dead.
That there were idiots on the left doing something similar may also be true but it doesn't invalidate my disgust at the behavior of Drudge and the Post.
Translation: Drudge is a meanie and I wish he didn't exist.
Has Michael Moore released a statement condemning the bomber for killing the wrong Americans? Yet?

Just so we are clear on this, the original front page red emblazoned headlines regarding a Saudi national on the Post and Drudge web sites were quite clearly bogus.
Ahhh...so we should take the words of the cops in public, cuz they always tell the truth about everything, and ignore the words of the cops privately as "sources"?
Too bad this incredibly trusting streak of yours doesn't extend past trying to show up those who disagree with you.
Putz.
ARM takes the word of a guy so obviously in thrall to the PC Gods that even my cat can tell he's obfuscating--and I don't even have a cat..

Just so we are clear. Your argument is that the Boston police commissioner is now lying to all news sources on the record. Is that correct?
Just so we are clear on this, the original front page red emblazoned headlines regarding a Saudi national on the Post and Drudge web sites were quite clearly bogus.
From CNN:
[Update, 8:55 p.m. ET] A Saudi national with a leg wound was under guard at a Boston hospital in connection with the bombings at the Boston Marathon, but investigators cannot say he is involved at this time and he is not in custody, a law enforcement official said Monday evening.
Seems not everyone is on the same page.
SOoooo.....ARM, if somebody put a gun to you're head and forced you to speculate on who caused this bombing and that he'd blow your brains out if you were wrong, exactly who would YOU nominate as the odds-on most likely?

"Just so we are clear. Your argument is that the Boston police commissioner is now lying to all news sources on the record. Is that correct?"
Have you ever seen a time when a cop might tell the media less than the entire whole truth?
And by the way: almost always when a person says "just so we are clear" it really means "I'm a pretentious asshole who's going to weasel out of whatever the argument is".

Seriously, dude, keep up.
How sad. The violence is in many places today. I'm over 50 and not concerned for myself, BUT OH what a world our children are facing. MORE IMAGES HERE !!! http://infonetorg.blogspot.ro/2013/04/boston-usa-marathon-bombing.html
As for honor, there's precious little of that in this thread...
...depending, of course, on how one defines honor.
(Same goes for good faith.)
In my thoughts,

Most apt are and will be Benghazi comparisons for sundry reasons; some tragic in Gestalt type holistic thinking but most not.
Themes such as "CONSERVATIVE" v. "LIBERAL" have a theoretical death toll much like the "THEIST" or "OTHER THAN" construct I am amply happy to supply, for this world.
That toll.
I'm just hoping for the time when we can actually obliterate the religion of peace of the face of the earth so this doesn't happen again. They have our number and we keep punching it.

Death cults (of which wahhabism is) rarely win protracted conflicts, if that makes anyone feel better.
"douchebags that know squat about what happened yet want to make it about themselves or their politics"
Most ironic comment ever from the flophose-masturbating douchebag who drags da jooooos into every thread no matter how OT it is.

I don't think at this juncture Americans have the stomach for anything protracted. Fighting them until they are all dead? Where is the facebook time going to come from?
Wouldn't rely on the leftist/Muslim apologists stories. They have 2 dead while The NY Post has 12.
Guess which number Drudge went with on his front page.

Hilarious.
Yes "valid" if you ignore the fact that NBC, CBS, and CNN reported the same thing as the NY Post.
"Valid" doesn't mean what you think it means.

Uh, Drudge didn't link to those stories "much later" nor were they "ambiguous" in any manner.
You are a silly ignorant person who takes to the Internet to say silly, ignorant things.

The number of "adults" in Washington, DC?
Since you assured us yesterday the "adults" are now in charge, how do you think the parents of those children blown up yesterday feel about your silly assurances?

Your attempt to enlist the dead and wounded on your "side" doesn't offend me. But you do creep me out.
As opposed to what you--and every other Newtown licking freak--has done for the past couple of months?
Really, phx?
Do you ever get tired of being dishonest?
Chris Matthews(D-White House court jester). Taking PURE HACK to new levels.

You silly piece of shit.

It is funny you would type this and then go into blinkered self-delusion when the Newton, CT example is given.
Are you dishonest or merely dumb?
Hey, when a bunch of Democrats took to the airwaves to enlist the dead and wounded on their "side" the day of the Newton, CT murders, you were all creeped out right?
you were all creeped out right?
Your political opinions don't creep me out, Jay. They're just childish.
You personally creep me out.

Uh-huh:
"The foreigner, who was badly burned, was in the United States on a student visa and is considered a person of interest and possible suspect in the case but has not been formally charged or arrested. The potential suspect is currently hospitalized.”
That's from Politico. You silly goof.
He is being held, isn't he?
He's being questioned while handcuffed to a hospital bed, but the "Saudi national" is not "in custody".
That's so they don't have to mirandize him.
So, once again, literally everything Jay said was wrong. Is there a more empty-headed ideologue posting on this board?
