First, for not aborting me. Second, for raising me to appreciate and tolerate life in all of its wondrous diversity. Finally, for teaching me to distinguish between positive and negative progress. Thanks Mom.
Can you believe that JFK is dead, Brezhnev, LBJ, Nixon, Reagan, Chavez, etc., and Fidel Castro is still kicking? Meanwhile abortion in Cuba is more common than a gallon of gas. I think Karma needs a Cuban vacation.
I'm pretty sure that my mom both drank and smoked during my fetal development. Everybody seemed to then and there. In addition, I almost didn't come to be because at 9 months as I was kicking around in utero, we had a gas leak in our house, and the whole family Mom, Dad, my older brother and sister all went unconscious. Dad was on the floor with a wrench on his way to shut it off, but didn't make it. We all would have died, but just by chance my grandmother stopped by and found us just in time.
At least that's the story I was always told, but maybe it was just an auxiliary explanation for the obvious mental and moral deficits that Mom's drinking and smoking caused in me. Anyway she said I came out perfect, and Mom wouldn't say that if it wasn't true.
That is a true story, but it sounds just like a script from one of those movies where the babysitter or the kid next door is the devil. Which is also a possibility, cause my dog never liked the kid next door for some reason.
My mother was put under general anesthetic for my birth which I guess is what they did back in 1960. Image going into labor and then waking up with a baby? They stopped all that though when they figured out that the babies came out anesthetized too. No dads present either. Who would want to see his wife passed out with doctors wrenching out a child?
That is a smart person and a good speaker. "Thank you, Mr. Chairman." She does not comprehend the evil that she represents. She can't even wiggle out of it briefly.
My wife's mother was 17 when she gave birth in November 1973. She had made an appointment for an abortion, but decided she couldn't do it. I should call her and thank her on each of her 4 grand-children's birthdays.
She might annoy the crap out of me sometimes, but I try to never forget the gift she has given to me.
There was a powerful scene on a TV show that I saw some years ago in which the daughter of a white woman who had been raped by a black man appeared to thank her mother for not aborting her and for giving her up for adoption instead. The daughter was a beautiful girl with a college degree. It could have been Oprah but I don;t know if she would do such a show.
Yeah, come to think about it, I really probably should call her back and also apologize. For all the punishment.
When The Blonde was a little girl, something her parents did made her decide it was time to run away from home, so she packed her little cardboard suitcase, marched herself downstairs, and announced her plan to her mother.
As she was just about to go out the door, her mother said calmly, "Just remember, you're not allowed across the street".
Herself processed this for a minute, set down her little cardboard suitcase, walked over to her mother, and said, "Just for that, I'm going to stay here and make your life MISERABLE".
I don't call my Mom on my birthday, or hers. But I talk to her.
This year I'll plant more peonies on her grave. One of my favorite pictures of her is from the 60s -- she's sitting in shorts, reading, on a chaise longue on the patio. In the background is the vegetable garden, ringed by peonies.
When people tell us the state cannot determine what family arrangement should be favored, do you think evil will stop there? They will simply say the state doe not have an interest in protecting viabilty.
It will get much worse before it will get better. But comfort yourself as did the millions of Christians set on fire and sewn into animal skins and sent before lions because they stood against immorality - that is coming here too by the way from the "tolerant" and immoral self righteous evil ones at Planned Parenthood and it's ilk - that their final end and eternal punishment is sure.
I am the third child in a family of two planned children. So yeah, I guess Mom was punished with a baby. I predate Roe v Wade by 8 years. I didn't know I was unplanned until I was an adult, but heck, most people are unplanned. Mom said I was a welcome surprise.
Each additional person in a family amplifies the love. It isn't a +1, it is a multiplier, because the new person has a relationship with each other person in the family.
The greatest gift you can give your child is a sibling. I keep reminding my brother and sister what a gift I am to them. LOL j/k
I can't call mine either, but I talk to her often, too.
She had seven children over a span of 20 years, so she left me a big sister who is very much like my mom. And my siblings are sort of the children my sister never had.

Happy Birthday, Meade
And thanks for the reminder. I'll be sure to call mine tomorrow.
The thought does strike me from time to time, and I am grateful.

Also a reason why a lot of mothers won't be getting phone calls for their birthday.
Before 1973? Oh well, that's not me.

Mom was Catholic.

Happy Birthday Meade and Chickie.

More than one connotation to the word, "mother".

I think spinal tap was the biggie back then.

Nothing, of course, explains the She Devil of the SS.
We must, of course, address this horrific failure here.
That is a smart person and a good speaker. "Thank you, Mr. Chairman." She does not comprehend the evil that she represents. She can't even wiggle out of it briefly.
Thank you, Inga!
Obama: I don't want them punished with a baby.
It's the rising inflection at baby, that's the special note that so endears him to us.
"punished with a baby."

John and Ken, Sept 4 2010, a discussion of Bristol Palin with Terri Rae Elmer their newslady
John: When does the ovulation start again?
Terri: When you stop nursing..
John: Right, so suppose you..
Terri: Although there are some mistakes. ahem
Ken: Okay
Terri: Let's just say it happens.
John: You got pregnant while you were nursing?
Terri: Yes.
Ken: You only have two kids, right?
Terri: I know.
Ken: You really wanted them close together.
Terri: No I didn't.
Ken: I hope they're not listening.
Terri: I do too.

Abortion was legal with varying degrees of restriction in 70% of states prior to Roe. And there was always Mexico.

My 10 pound baby punished the hell out of my bladder, oy.
@MadisonMan:
That was vivid and touching.

Thanks, Mom. Thank you, God.
Happy birthday, Bruce.
Thanks, Darcy!
Why, on your birthday, you should call your mother.
To thank her for not aborting you.
I wonder if Hitler did that.
For a few years I sent my parents "Thank you for having me cards" for my birthday. They really loved it.
On my birthday, my mom who adopted me calls me. I also pray for my birth mother for carrying me to birth and giving me for adoption.
