Can Meade guess the Confirmation present for my godson? Should be obvious.
Catholic? or Protestant?
Catholic. One of the last you might say..
Well then I guess it's not Precious Memories.
Nope. "Last Catholic in America," by John Powers. All about growing up Catholic in the 50's/early 60's. Great for Catholics of a certain age.
Sorry, Patrick - it's not showing up in the report.
Wow, I almost feel like I should send you a check or something. Oh well, the god daughter is getting confirmed later this month, I'll try again. Sorry for the @#$@! up.
A buck a pound for split up pine stumps? I might be in the wrong career trajectory here.
Nice to know there's an alternative to WalMart greeter for my golden retirement years.
Books purchased through Althouse Amazon portal during Quarter to Date with the word "catholic" in title:
"The Long Loneliness: The Autobiography of the Legendary Catholic Social Activist" [Paperback]
Dorothy Day (Author)
"History of the Catholic Church" [Kindle Edition]
James Hitchcock (Author)
"The Vatican Diaries: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Power, Personalities and Politics at the Heart of the Catholic Church" [Kindle Edition]
No worries, Patrick. Get her the audiobook and we'll call it square.
(Kidding)
Well, Meade you're a hell of a salesman. I'm gonna get that audiobook.
One of my fondest memories of being a kid is having my Mom and Dad read this book around the kitchen table, with me and my siblings laughing at all of the stuff we could relate to. Shortly after that things went a bit south, so I love that memory.
Audiobook will have to wait about a week, but thanks for letting me know about it!
Patrick, John Powers also wrote, "Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?" Equally as funny. There was a production of this book put on in a theatre on Lincoln St. in Chicago. It ran for several years. The play was hilarious. A nun would come out and scold the audience between acts. I saw it twice.
Read that, Nick. Loved it. I like books that examine the foibles of Catholics and Catholicism but manage to find a measure of redemption in the faith and its people, which is how I experienced Powers' books, and Catholicism.

And now, I see that John Powers died just last month.
