"Meanwhile, Bloomberg’s daughter has a pig in Gracie Mansion and no one mentions it’s illegal."
The powerful think the rules don't apply to them. But that's not an argument in favor of pigs in the city. No pigs in the city!

2 legs good 4 legs bad?
Maybe you need to start a sentence a day from animal farm as well.
I bet the pig has bodyguard's with guns too!
I grew up on a farm, I don't think anyone who grew up on a farm and lives in the city would want a pig as a pet.
I bet the pig has bodyguard's with guns too!
Some pets are more equal than others.
And yet people in Gotham keep electing Bloomie.
For the same reasons, one suspects, people got on the cattle cars to the East without a fuss.
Babe was a Pig in the City, and he did remarkably well. But only after teaming up with Flealick and the Pit Bull. And finding Mrs. Hoggett.
Pigshit stinks. I hope his mansion stinks to high heaven. Ain't no mountain of potpourri can overcome it.
Here we go again. Another powerful person ignores the law and gets a pass.
Marie Antoinette would be pleased.
The powerful think the rules don't apply to them.
You can't tell the difference between owning a pig and bringing one to the house for one day?
Some of you conservatives, all you can think about is "Gotcha!"
To be fair, the pig was visiting Gracie Mansion, not living there.
While I understand not wanting pigs in a city, I don't think a 50-pound pig is a greater health threat than a 100-pound dog.
Pigs are said to make nice pets.
I imagine it's one of the smaller varieties, like the Vietnamese Pot Bellied pig.
Thurber says a horse feels more at home indoors if you have flowered shower curtains.
Dogs got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I realized that after reading the piece, but still wanted to make my Animal Farm comment anyways.
Can't we just leave people the fuck alone?
SOME PIG!

You are, of course, joking.

They re-elected Obama too, and will confirm Chucky to SecDef.
Americans have arrived at a stage of no reverse.

His Pigginess's mansion and administration have already stunk to high heaven.
Don't blame the four-legged one.
It's a Juliana pig. 50 lbs. is apparently about the biggest they get.
IIRC, Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs, bought as cute piglets, used to end up over 200 lb., but there are now "dwarf" versions that don't get anything like that big.
phx,
You can't tell the difference between owning a pig and bringing one to the house for one day?
Yes, I suppose Gracie Mansion is technically "the house."
Look, this is about an order that people "dispose of" their pet in 15 days, or else authorities will come in, forcibly remove it, and kill it. Are you keen on that?
I thought they just meant that the city was going after families that know people that are slobs. Like from eating too much trains fats and drinkiing the big gulps. I wouldn't put it past Bloomberg.

I hate to say it, but yes. Depending on the animal. A pig, no. But suppose you had a pet lion or alligator. Or a monkey that bites people's faces off. If,they are going to have exotic pets there should e some hoops they have to jump through.
In. NYC they have found some really crazy things in people apartments.
How about finding 100 cts, many in a freezer in a small apartment. If you watch the show Hoarders there was a guy who kept mice or rts as pets and he ended up having thousands of rats. That is simply crazy.
So, when you look at those extremes, I can't argue that a city can't or shouldn't limit the amount or type of pets that people put in their apartments.
First, they came for our pigs.....
But should you be able to ban a single pig, even one of those tiny pigs. It sounds extreme.
And if there is such a rule, then Bloomberg is a hypocrite for allowing his daughter to have one when others in the city can't. THAT'S the hypocrisy.
Doesn't Bloomie have some mayor like things to do like fixing potholes?
Reminds of one my favorite jokes: Traveling salesman sees pig with peg-leg lying on a cushion on porch of farmer's house. Asks farmer's wife why the pig has peg-leg and gets such nice treatment. Wife tells him the pig saved the farmer's life one day when he fell off his tractor. "Well," the salesman says, "I can see treating it nice, but why the peg-leg?" Farmer's wife answers, "Special pig like that, you just don't eat him all at once."
The powerful think the rules don't apply to them.
The powerful are right. Rules don't apply to them.
That's why they fight so hard to stay in power.
Look, this is about an order that people "dispose of" their pet in 15 days, or else authorities will come in, forcibly remove it, and kill it. Are you keen on that?
I don't know if I'm keen on it or not. But it has nothing to do with someone bringing a pig home for a visit for Thanksgiving day.
One thing has nothing to do with another AFAICS.
The pig was just visiting?
Does the same exemption apply to tourists with handguns?
TML - I am now so glad I read this comment thread through.
Does the same exemption apply to tourists with handguns?
We don't have any information on whether the pig was armed or not.
You can bet your life that Mayor Bloomberg's security detail is using normal capacity magazines. The mini sized magazine law will not apply to those with great political power or great wealth.
"Can't we just leave people the fuck alone? "
*Pffft*!!!
Those days ended three years ago when ObamaCare was passed.

You guys are too much! Sure the powerful get away with crap we couldn't (sniff sniff) but the examples you guys pick from are, IMO, truly stoopid.

Well, we could talk about Senator Menendez, but that's just old and gross. He should have resigned already. Or is Bloomberg saying that Menendez can't travel to NYC for more than 15 days?
That's funny, phx, Harry Truman didn't try to get away with any of that "crap," nor did Ike, nor, for that matter, did Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, Geo. H.W. Bush, "W" Bush or Ronald Regan--not to mention many State Governors and City officials across the land too numerous to mention (my HS classmate Gov of Ill Jim Edwards readily comes to mind.) It is NOT axiomatic..

Sure it does. If there's something unhygienic enough to be illegal about a pig in a NY apartment, there's something unhygienic enough to be illegal about a pig in Gracie Mansion. Even for a day. Suck it up already.
And, yes, it is like the gun question. How come the Mayor can have armed bodyguards, but you can't arm yourself?
jr565, yes, an alligator or a lion in a NY apartment would be a stretch. But that neither is (to my knowledge) currently being kept as a pet in NYC I'd say is owing more to practical exigencies than to law.
Thousands of rats? Yep, I would balk at that.
"No pigs in the city!"
Is it wrong of me to think (for a brief moment) that the topic at hand was a sequel to "Sex in the City"?
"No pigs in the city!"
---Angela Davis 1970
Well, if the city has a problaem with dog droppings, a few pigs roaming the streets would help with that. And you've heard about pets locked in with their deceased owners? A few pigs would help with that disposal problem, as well. Of course, cleaning up the residual pig effluvia may not be a good trade.
Sure it does. If there's something unhygienic enough to be illegal about a pig in a NY apartment, there's something unhygienic enough to be illegal about a pig in Gracie Mansion. Even for a day. Suck it up already.
Sure. You and the gotcha gang go ahead and continue to imagine that anyone with any kind of power will consider your interpretations as relevant or interesting. Maybe your children will listen to you, but you ain't influencing nobody.

I find your ideas very intriguing and would like to subscribe...
Now is someone wants to talk about corruption or the abuse of power, by all means.
Sure. You and the gotcha gang go ahead and continue to imagine that anyone with any kind of power will consider your interpretations as relevant or interesting. Maybe your children will listen to you, but you ain't influencing nobody.
Well apparently Bloomberg has no problem with the city being infested with sheep.
The powerful think the rules don't apply to them.
Seeing how the rules are actually enforced, the rules de facto don't apply to the powerful.
You can't tell the difference between owning a pig and bringing one to the house for one day?
Some of you conservatives, all you can think about is "Gotcha!"
The New York codes don't seem to make exceptions for "visiting" livestock.
Assuming you're not David Gregory, bring a restricted firearm or magazine or the like into NYC while you are just visiting and see what the response from law enforcement would be.
"You can't tell the difference between owning a pig and bringing one to the house for one day?"
Explain the difference, please. Does the law in question have exceptions for short holiday visits?
The New York codes don't seem to make exceptions for "visiting" livestock.
Yeah? Well let's at least see the code before we say someone's in violation.
"So, when you look at those extremes, I can't argue that a city can't or shouldn't limit the amount or type of pets that people put in their apartments."
Why? Surely the landlord can solve that problem quite easily by simply evicting the tenant.
The powerful think the rules don't apply to them.
The empirical evidence indicates that they're right about that.
"You can't tell the difference between owning a pig and bringing one to the house for one day?"
Explain the difference, please.
Sure, absolutely. The difference is that people who are interested in fighting corruption and abuse of power will continue to look for ways to make progress in their struggle.
And then there's your point of view, which won't be noticed or cared about by anyone except I don't know, maybe the most ineffectual members of the Tea Party who are determined to see their organization lose influence.
phx,
Sure. You and the gotcha gang go ahead and continue to imagine that anyone with any kind of power will consider your interpretations as relevant or interesting. Maybe your children will listen to you, but you ain't influencing nobody.
Of course I am; I'm influencing you. I wrote something, and induced you to write something in response.
"The city's going after familiees who have pigs as companions".
This a post that is begging for some comments from Baron Zemo.

Yep, that's the difference. Fer sure! Corruption and abuse of power and illegal pet pigs. That's what it's all about. And those people who told you the hokey-pokey was what it's all about? Liars, all of them.
Explain the difference, please. [added: text phx cut:] Does the law in question have exceptions for short holiday visits?
I cut that part because I was embarrassed for him.
Come high summer, there'll be a greasy feast at the Gracie mansion, with all the poor and downtrodden invited for pulled pork sandwiches.
Mighty chief Bloomberg provide for people.
Yes, Babe II was a HUGE mistake ...
Here's the Health Code:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/downloads/pdf/about/healthcode/health-code-article161.pdf
"No person shall sell or give to another person, possess, harbor, keep, or yard wild or other animals identified in this section..." which includes pigs, pot-bellied or otherwise
No mention of exemptions for visiting even-toed ungulates.

If you're looking for respect for your viewpoint you'll have to find someone else.
I'm sorry for the serious conservatives who will be tied to you.
I know they'll make that knot just as tight as they can make it!
Have you guys been bothering phx with facts again? Can't take you anywhere.
They don't just think the rules don't apply to them, they KNOW the rules will NOT BE applied to them.
This is why Jefferson refered to watering the tree of liberty with...fuck all government officials.
NYC'ers are fucking retarded toxic waste greaseball morons. They deserve to live in the city of decay and idiots. That pig is too good for them and their idiotic laws.

Sounds like someone from NYC took your lunch money.
The first loft I purchased was in Chelsea Mass which was supposed to be "up and coming". Fags were moving in, new cafes, etc. It never surfaced and I got out. The fags tried for a few years but we were overcum by uncut spic cock.
It was all latin.
Across the street from me was a family of spics that had chickens and a cock running around the "deck".
That fucking rooster woke me up every morning but then he was mysteriously gone.
There was another hot guy in my previous hood that was always walking around with a pig. I ended up doing him one night and the pig slept on the bed and was constantly trying to get in between our intimacy. I was like this is ridiculous. I came and abruptly left. The big had huge tits.
BTW, New York City is hardly decaying.

Nope. Although the zombie homeless mutants tried when I lived there. Upper west side, 80th and Colombus back in the late 80's. I'd get to work on my bike early in the morning only to have homeless zombie #1 try to stick my spokes cause he wanted my bike for himself and then homeless zombie #2 would go after my backpack. Yeah, those two fuckers learned real quick not to fuck with a hardened city biker with lead weights in his backpack that he swung at them. Oh and the sharpened metal sticks that I wrapped around my spokes also taught them to stay away since centripedal force is a hell of a physics lesson to learn the hard way.
Well that explains it Methadras. But damn you're gonna get an early ticket out of here if you don't lower your blood pressure. It's not worth it.
Life imitates Angry Birds?
The point of a constitutional republic and being a nation of laws is emphasized by the statement that all men are created equal. Once you start making excuses for some people because they are powerful or rich or whatever reason you undermine the station of the individual in society. A free society requires that the overwhelming majority of citizens voluntarily comply with the law out of respect for the law. When you allow exceptions to the law because someone is rich citizens realize it is a sham and stop respecting the law. The only way to ensure compliance when this happens is more law enforcement and we lose freedom.
I understand that people like phx don't give a shit about freedom. But as a group libs have never really understood freedom or what liberal used to mean.
"Waaah! Bloomberg's daughter brought a pig into the city for Thanksgiving Day and she didn't get a ticket! Waaaah! Libs don't give a shit about freedom! My rights are being violated!"
