"This is the governor realizing he’s not getting the job done and finding someone to blame."

"Steve is a qualified, stand-up guy and to let him go over something like this is just outrageous."

Poor Andy. He thought he had the nomination locked up.

His Katrina.

And you know who is going to throw him under the bus because of the swell job FEMA's doing.

Heckuva job, Barry.

Wow. $153,000.

C'mon Steve, you are paid hundreds of thousands a year for your political appointment to provide Andy deniabilities when things fucked up, you couldn't do that, you are fired.

Good riddance!

If Steve were a stand-up guy, he would step down voluntarily, recognizing that a person in his position can't ask fellow citizens to be patient in their wait for help when he himself wasn't.

I agree with Cuomo's decision.

When did storm response become the job of the governor! I thought we threw federalism out the window back in 2005!

The only surprising part of this is that it came out.

NYPost said Cuomo & Nanny B argued over the NYNG before Sandy, Nanny B won. How's that working out for Staten Island?

I can't get too outraged if the crew was gonna have to do it anyway, and just did his first. Unless it redirected an unusual amount of services, I don't much care. somebody's tree has be first, why not the boss of the tree guys. This is always how it's done.

I think there were more pressing tree and debris removal problems.

Look, I am a NY Democrat and not an Andrew Cuomo fan at all. But this has got to be one of the lamest attempts I have ever seen to diss a politician.

Optics are bad.

But I heard elsewhere his wife called him to see what could be done - her car was blocked in due to a tree being down in their driveway.

Not sure he should have been fired over this.

I agree with Cuomo's decision. Now if the president could just move as swiftly and fire all the head people at FEMA for their multitudinous failures in the area, I would agree with that to. FEMA has proven to be a useless drain on the taxpayers.

What if the this helps the boss to get his job done?

Anyway, it seems the Democrat way. Things aren't going well, sacrifice someone.

Edutcher,

I think we should all do whatever we can to make sure Cuomo is the Dem nominee in 2016. He would drive down the Dem vote enormously. He makes John Kerry look like JFK.

This is the guy who sent crews to his own house first, right?

He *should* be fired.

It might not have been a big deal in concrete terms, but in psychological ones it's sort of huge. It plays to the entire culture of public service and what people have a right to expect.

Seeing to your own people and your own needs first is third-world.

"- her car was blocked in due to a tree being down in their driveway."

Not an emergency. Sorry.

If anything a public servant should err in the opposite direction... and be last on all the lists unless if it's not life threatening.

Steven said...

I think Synova has this right - the person at the top of the organization should set an example, not abuse his authority. And if he's caught abusing his authority, the Governor shouldn't say, "no consequences for you," which would come with the implicit addition, "or for anyone else working for the state who wants to use state resources to take care of theirs first."

I don't see this as an "either, or" situation.

Can't they both be incompetent, self-serving assholes?
