Why should more than 10 people show up at a Sak 'n Save at in Reno to see Sandra Fluke?
Who is this woman? Why is she a celebrity? She's read a couple of speeches prominently, in Washington D.C., where she was selected for that role by — which Democratic bigwigs? Why?! And Rush Limbaugh made fun of her elevation into the spotlight. He did it in a crude way that boosted her name recognition. That seems to be the closest thing to something that she did to achieve prominence, and I imagine that in her own mind, surrounded by those who chose her and elevated her, she may think she is an eminent person capable of drawing crowds. What a splash of cold reality to find yourself deposited — by your promoters — at a grocery store in Reno where nobody cares.

Hmmmm, exploited. How does this sound to liberal lady parts?
Dang - I just got done posting this as a comment in an earlier post.
Excellent publicity for good old Sak 'n' Save, though!
Splash of cold reality, that it is. As one tweet said, get a real job. But I hear that she is attached to a trust fund baby, so maybe she does not need a real job. It is funny how all these rich trust fund babies on the Dem side think they speak for poor women even as they make fun of Romney.
Appears Supermarket shoppers tend to aviod buying products well past their "Sell By" date.
"...wheels of the Bus go bumptiy bump bump..."
Fluke would've drawn a bigger crowd if she'd had a seizure.
She's a kamikaze pilot in the "War on Women".
Sak 'n Save? Maybe if she had appeared with Honey Boo Boo there would have been a bigger crowd. Although for some reason I don't think the Honey Boo Boo demographic would be too concerned about contraceptives, free or not.
Sak N Save
That's all I'm sayin'
If I were Pogo I could do something with Sak-n-Save, but I lack the requisite skills.
Was she looking for partners?
"Ms. Fluke, your fifteen minutes of fame are up."
I hope, for her sake, she passes the Bar exam.
I commented about this in the open thread downstream. I'll repeat what I said:
14:59, Sandra. 14:59.
Julia was able to get her autograph, though. No lines, no waiting.
"Sak N Save" -- there's a crude used condom joke in there somewhere, but I'm not the guy to make it.

All the Way to Reno (You're Gonna Be A Star)
humming
all the way to Reno
you've dusted the non believers
and challenged the laws of chance
now, sweet
you were so sugar sweet
you may as well have had 'kick me'
fastened on your sleeve
you know what you are
you're gonna be a star
wing
is written on your feet
your Achilles heel
is a tendency
to dream
but you've know that from the beginning
you didn't have to go so far
you didn't have to go.
you know what you are
you're gonna be a star
you know who you are.
humming
all the way to Reno,
you've written your own directions
and whistled the rules of change
you know what you are
you're gonna be a star
This is feminism, demanding a Catholic Institution cover your birth control?
6 of the 10 were guys who, after shaking her hand, said, "Uh, can I call you sometime? Wanna go for a drink?"
Fluke might have made a better argument if she wasn't going to Duke university. People not so blessed to be able to afford to attend Georgetown dont want to hear whining about how those people can't afford birth control. Most people can't afford to send their kids to Georgetown!
So shut the hell up, Fluke you elitist twerp.
(I keep writing Duke instead of Georgetown whenever discussing Fluke for some reason, probably because it rhymes with Fluke).
Thus is childish, late-stage whining feminism cast aside at a time when great matters are at stake. To the Sandra Flukes, a beggared nation, impoverished and reduced, is an acceptable price to pay for free birth control pills. This is the central position of the Democratic Party: the nation is going over a fiscal cliff few can imagine, but hey! We got abortion and gay marriage. And free pills for little Sandra Fluke.
Most people can not afford Georgetown, which is why they take out massive loans. Loans so burdening, they can never afford to have children.
Her time could be better spent practicing fr some bar exam, unless she wants to follow in Liz Warren's footsteps and practice without a license :)

I think it actually rhymes with this.
"Sak N Save" -- there's a crude used condom joke in there somewhere,
What about Monica Lewinsky's blue dress?
You know, that really is an effective use of Obama's campaign funds - fly Fluke from DC to Reno so she can address 10 people. They were probably standing there wondering if the buy one get one free special on Stouffer's frozen dinners was still in effect, or worrying about getting the ice cream home before it melted.
Or perhaps the sight of Fluke reminded them to toss a couple of packs of Trojans into the grocery cart.
Fluke wrote:
“I decided I was absolutely not willing to compromise the quality of my education in exchange for my health care
ANd this is why shes a spoiled brat. Remember only a few weeks ago Althouse posted the story about how parents felt guilty because they couldnt send their kids to their dream college?
Most people can't afford that, and so are in effect compromising the quality of their eductation in exchange for affordability, or convenience. She's attending her dream college, unlike many people who settle for less, and yet is then kvetching about how she can't afford incidentals like health care.
If she attended say CUNY or SUNY she would not only be able to pay for college, but could also pay for health care AND have money left over for other incidentals. it's HER choice though not to settle when it comes to her education. Which is totally fair. But if that's your choice then live with that choice. Why should we subsidize people attending IVY League colleges (or colleges that cost as much) when many people can't even afford to go to those colleges to begin with. If we're going to subsidize peoples education I'd much rather money be spent on people NOT attending Ivy League schools, which if we are to believe that IVY League schools do give you a leg up later in life, will be going on to high paying jobs that those who do have to settle for a sub par education will not get (This is not actually accurate, I'm just addressing the idea about having to "compromise the quality of education as a matter of course".
She was always a DNC operative. That was not a Congressional hearing she "testified" at, for example. It was a photo op organized by Pelosi.
I thought it interesting that one of her issues is making Catholic institutions pay for sex change operations. The first sex change clinic in the US was a Johns Hopkins, which no longer encourages the procedure. The results have been depressing with a significant number of patients trying to get it reversed later. It's a mess and so is she.
The free birth control issue, is aimed for women who not only never had a child but never suffered an illness as well. Children needs all sorts of medicine, and other related health items that are not covered by health insurance, or with at least a co-pay. How many senior citizens pay co-pays and deductibles.
Where did it come to thinking that contraception should be without a co-pay or deductible?
Reclipsen is approximately $20 per month from Walgreens. That is four less alcoholic beverages from a per per month, or eating in from a fancy restaurant once a month, or eating in from fast food twice a month.
Sandra Fluke should demand that the government provide her alcohol.
Crowd dispersed when they discovered that she wasn't one of the free sample ladies.
"What a splash of cold reality"
I recall Shirer using the term "cold douche" more than once in his writings. Having studied German, the term didn't surprise me, but it still sounds funny.
I said this would happen to her.
This year's Cindy Sheehan, although I don't think Ms Fluck has even gotten a book deal out of it.
For our sake, I hope she does not pass her bar exam!
Soon, Sandra will insist the tax payer fund her expensive trips to Europe. (and for good measure, pay off all her law school student loans) I call it DNC Spoiled lefty girl syndrome creep.
The democrat party will vilify all who oppose her wisdom.
Sak N Save.
or-
As soon as Sandra has outlived her usefulness to the party, she will be discarded.
Apparently her notoriety was a fluke.
Edutcher--you beat me to it with the Cindy Sheehan comment--what ever happened to the lady who had absolute moral authority. Trashed as a useful idiot as soon as her shelf life expired--And speaking of useful idiots, there is always the code pink crowd. At least code pink contributed giant vaginas to our political discourse.
Rest assured that Inga the Lying Obama Whore, Garbage Pail, O Ritmo, and Easy Andy were amongst that ten//
Garbage and Inga even brought pictures of their kids for Sandra to sign. You know, because they're willing to sacrifice them for the One.
Picked up and discarded like a used kleenex. Sandra Fluke, Cindy Sheehan.
God, liberal women are dumb.
Reno is a 'working town'. Meaning most people have jobs and are concentrating on making a living. Her whining about not being able to get free birth control, in a state that has legalized prostitution, is completely non-relevant to the lives of most people.
Reno is a middle class town and people just don't give a crap about the problems of the east coast elites. Boo hoo.....birth control. War on Women....WUT??
It is also a Western town, in the sense that it still has some frontier type values of independence.
Ms Fluke isn't bad looking, I'd hit it. She'd have to promise not to talk politics in the sack though. I imagine she's just like those hippy girls from my college days, get a few drinks in them and they turn normal.
What does it say about Fluke if her boyfriend isn't willing to sport for the birth control pills? I have a hard time following democrat logic, no co-pays for birth control pills but yes for cancer meds?
Fluke is a fool. For the rest of her life she will be known for asking for free birth control so she can get laid with little risk of pregnancy at other people's expense.
I am still having trouble understanding why the Democrats think this whole "War on Women" thing is a winning strategy. Most women I know don't think contraception is the end all and be all. They also aren't overwhelmingly pro-unlimited abortion. It is as if the Democratic Party sees women only through the lens of Planned Parenthood.
Cubanbob
Ms Fluke's boyfriend (fiance) is from an old money socialist jewish family once involved in the textile industry. His name escapes me.
She was a Democrat Street Theater propaganda op that failed miserably because Sane Americans don't look to the government to fund the desires of their genitalia. The Dems have forgotten that Sane Americans oppose wasteful spending.
The folks who shop at that particular Sak-n-Save in North Reno do tend to overlap rather heavily with the Honey-Boo-Boo demographic, so I think the earlier commenters are right, and that would have drawn a bigger crowd. That store also has a large number of Hispanic shoppers, many of whom are most likely illegal immigrants. I don't imagine that most of the folks at the North Reno Sak-n-Save know or care who Sandra Fluke is.
I think the part about Fluke that makes me so damn mad is the fact she's 31 years old. This is not some helpless kid even though that's what the media portrays.
For the WWII generation by age 31, they'd fought in Europe or the Pacific, started a career, got married and likely had two or three children already.
And yet the highly educated and apparently wealthy Fluke still can't figure out how to go down to the campus Walgreens and have she or her boyfriend buy some condoms.
Instead an entire Catholic University and the US taxpayers have to do it for her. Rush's sensibilities were correct here.
Syndey,
Read 'Dear Wendy'. It is relationship advice site, those are the women who are interested in free birth control and will vote for Obama on this issue, as well on abortion and gay marriage. Women who really want a relationship, but end up in casual hook ups and 'friends with benefits' situations. Women who openly say they love their IUDs, because they can go through their slut phases.
Sad, because all these women are educated. They should know better about the high risk of STDs and continuous partners will never lead to stability. These women either change their ways, or end up numb and inable to connect sex with love.
Never was much of a fan of Reno. Its a tough town, but so is Vegas. Don't know exactly where she was, but looks like a bit east of UNR (go Wolf Pack), almost to Sparks.
Firm I was with combined our office with the much larger Reno office shortly after I left. Would not have enjoyed that.
A thirty years old student, a big three O "student" who needs someone else to pay for her condoms to get screwed. What sort of losers is she screwing? Most self-respecting men bring their own condoms that they themselves paid for.
For our sake, I hope she does not pass her bar exam!
10/21/12 12:25 PM
Does DC still allow people to take their bar exams elsewhere and then waive them in so they can practice in DC?
I don't know how things are now, but back in the '80's I recall several G-town law school grad told me they were planning on taking their bar exams in PA because it was supposedly much easier to pass than the DC exam. But their intent was to practice in DC.
She can come up to Massachusetts, as long as she appears in the federal courts. I'm sure the Mass. BBO would not say a word.
Why should we subsidize people attending IVY League colleges (or colleges that cost as much) when many people can't even afford to go to those colleges to begin with
I couldn't afford to attend George town. I could barely afford a SUNY school. Why does Sandra think and her Georgetown buddies should be subsidized so they don't have to compromise with their education when us SUNY goers had to attend SUNY colleges. Fuck you Sandra.
She gave herself a wiki page. I'm surprised it doesn't mention her partner Julia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandra_Fluke
Poor Sandra! Next stop; porn.
I wonder what ever became of Joe the Plumber?
I think the part about Fluke that makes me so damn mad is the fact she's 31 years old.
Amen to that. I'm 32 and have been a grown-up for a long time and have nothing but contempt for spoiled, stupid children pretending to be adults. I've been a working, taxpaying adult for the entire time she's been indulging herself as a permanent student and "social justice activist." I'm concerned with being able to send my own four children to college someday; I don't need to worry about Mr. & Mrs. Fluke's kid too.
Inga
I believe Joe is running for office.

Tragedy of the commons?
I get your point, Renee. It's a motivate-the-base move. But this is an appeal to well educated, politically-minded women. They're already voting Obama, anyway.
Inga-Joe's running a losing race for seat in the US House.
That seems to be the closest thing to something that she did to achieve prominence, and I imagine that in her own mind, surrounded by those who chose her and elevated her, she may think she is an eminent person "capable of drawing crowds"
How did Paris Hilton become prominent again?
It is amazing that those who never achieved anything, accomplished nothing, and did nothing to publicly help one person gain fame and celebrity. One even got elected as president.

Why don't you go and google it and then get back to us mkay.
What is up with the O campaign? I mean seriously, who authorized this event? I am a republican, but I can only say, whoever authorized this rally should be fired immediately. It just seems that the O campaign is simply phoning it in at this point.
Look at what's been happening the past few weeks. Big Bird, Binders. Then things like DWS not knowing what the kill list is. Now this.
Can you seriously say that the campaign is not totally adrift and unable to steer the ship? The O operations is worse than a grade school student government campaign.
If anyone is doubting the gallup polling numbers and party identification - you need only look to what the O campaign has been up to for two weeks to say... yeah sounds about right.
"Sack 'n' Save" should be Romney's campaign slogan.
Geesh, Couldn't they just get employees from the nearest Planned Parenthood to show up.
Touche! And thanks for the fix, my eyesight is less than perfect. Indeed she should be used as an example of the tragedy of the commons. Your sir are correct. Why shell out money for birth control pills for someone who is putting out for a lot of others. Nobody wants to be that chump.
McTriumph old money socialists whether Jewish or not obviously don't care to be played either.
Fluke is right in line with her avocation:
Porn industry backs Obama 5-1
Go Sandra!
"Tragedy of the commons?"
You're a certified genius, Chip.
For the penny-pinching co-ed looking for a hook-up free of subsequent embryos, Fluke could try Saran Wrap.
Now 2-for-1 at the Sak 'n Save.
For best results, use two ply.
"What is up with the O campaign?"
It's what it always was: all hype no substance. It looked effective when Obama had no record to run on and with most of the media acting as its outlet. However, it was sleezy, cheesy and abnoxious the first time and it's still is.
Why anybody thought that he can deliver anything except speeches is still beyond me. Why anybody still believes he can run a country, after he effectively proved to be hapless, to say the least?
Pogo wins the thread.
I thought she was a student. In D.C. Doesn't she have classes or something? What's she doing in Reno anyway?
I can't wait for her to write a book. I wonder if she can break the ceiling of 10 readers?
Sandra is a ROLE MODEL for all voters. Follow her. She expects somethings from our govt. Why not? It is her right. It is your right to have Obama Care.
GOP care for no-one. POTUS Obama cares for each and every voter, whether you are black, white, asian, etc. Our administration is more inclusive than any administration in our 200+ year history.
GOP is jealous of us. The press knows that. Thus, they support us.
I'm still floored by "Sak-n-Save." In the CA Bay Area there was "Pak-n-Save," and I assumed that the two were parts of the same company with regional branding I couldn't immediately understand. Evidently not.
Same concept, evidently: If you bag your own groceries, we'll charge you less.
Is this the kind of gig you get when you're represented by SKDKnickerbocker?
jr565, I understand Fluke is pronounced Fluck, to rhyme with Duck, which would be the U. of Oregon Law school, if they have one, which I know not, nor will I spin the wheel of search engines.
There were two wild turkeys walking back and forth in front of our local Stop and Shop this morning. There were at least 50 people gathered to watch.
She could likely do the university town hall circuit, but yeah, Reno? No.
Two wild Turkeys in front of a grocery store? Eleven tame ones seems more impressive to me.
I wonder what ever became of Joe the Plumber?
Joe Wurzelbacher is the Republican nominee running to represent Ohio's 9th Congressional District. He aspires to walk the walk, I guess.
There were two wild turkeys walking back and forth in front of our local Stop and Shop this morning. There were at least 50 people gathered to watch.
Good grief. We have wild turkeys come into our front yard all the time. I hope they don't start drawing a crowd.
Ms Fluke's boyfriend (fiance) is from an old money socialist jewish family once involved in the textile industry. His name escapes me.
Fluke's fiance is Adam Mutterperl son of William Mutterperl and I believe they're married now. In any event, he is well fixed to provide for any contraceptive needs the couple may have.
I figured OFA sent her there on purpose to hide her.
Proof that she's not a slut. Sluts draw bigger crowds.
Mr. Mutterperl gives a lot of money to Democrats. Wonder if that has any connection to Ms Fluke's 15 minutes of fame?
"Sak n' Save" was a a poor choice for Fluke. She would have had more impact rallying crowds at Kum & Go or Titus' favorite, Loaf 'N Jug.
I would have had her autograph a package of condoms, and then donate them to her.
Sandra Fluke insists she spends more on birth control every month than most people spend on food.
That she doesn't look the part is I think the fundamental reason for her celebrity. She looks and talks like a grad student by day but lives a night life worthy of an Olympic swim team.
People are naturally curious about that sort of thing, at least for a little while.

Oh. She's still a slut. Just not a particularly good one.
What's with the hate on Fluk?
She has accomplished exactly as much as Zero had when he was elected President of the United States of America.
Finally, The Fluke is back in Nevada where her game is legal.
Attn. Ms. Fluke, your 15 minutes of lame are up.
There you go, furious_a. Fixed it.
But I might personally be willing to pay for her birth control - if she would agree to use it for the rest of her life. The last thing I want her to do is to reproduce.
"Can you seriously say that the campaign is not totally adrift and unable to steer the ship? The O operations is worse than a grade school student government campaign."
Just the campaign? What about the entire administration?
