Romney's foreign trip was a festival of gaffes.
That's the story MSM fell all over itself trying to tell. Here's Charles Krauthammer with the counternarrative: "Romney's excellent trip."

Krauthammer won't get the soap opera women audience; the MSM will.
Business is business.
I read that Krauthammer column this morning and followed a few links from there to find this odd commentary from Walter Shapiro back in February.
I'm trying to imagine an online service that could hold commenters like that to account. Krauthammer is saying "you guys got it wrong". Shapiro obviously got it wrong. These people are paid real money for their analyses.
Indeed! Hey at least he kept his insincere smile while makin' all his political faux pas.
Again consistency from train wreck mittens ...
While I am of the school that believes Mr Obama's foreign policy has been terrible, seems to me yet another 8.3 percent unemployment figure will resonate more with the American public that Mr Romney's alleged "gaffes."
On top of that gas prices are going up--hitting 3.40 a gallon in Memphis. Not good news for Mr Obama.
shiloh, what do you mean by "indeed!"?
I know that may sound stupid. It's a real question. Are you just being snarky, or do you really believe in your concept of "train wreck mittens"?
If that train wreck becomes POTUS, how will you react?
I remember feeling somewhat defeated when Clinton won the impeachment trial. The prosecution's case seemed obvious to me. But I got over my outrage. History moves on.
"Again consistency from train wreck mittens ..."
Yes, that light Obama sees is not the end of the tunnel.
it will be fun to assemble the commentariat on the first Wed in November to review the election. Schadenfruede, jubilation, angst, and with any luck we can even get the crying man from Wisconsin. Gonna be a rough 100 days.
Let's see. Mitt was warmly received by the Israelis and the Poles. His reception by the Brits was mixed; the British elites, who are predisposed to dislike Republicans anyways, didn't see enough to change their minds. Mitt didn't kowtow to them. Good for him. Overall a good solid trip befitting of someone seeking the Presidency.
Speaking of gaffes, "You didn't build that" is the gaffe of the century. It's right there with historical gaffes like "Let them eat cake" (I know the legitimacy of that quote is in question, but let's admit that it's stuck even if not accurate) and Chamberlain's "Well, to listen to Mr. Churchill, you'd think that Hitler wanted to kill every Jew in Europe."
It's only a gaffe if people think it's a gaffe. If I were the leaders of the countries Romney visited I'd be thinking much more in line with Krauthammer than the MSM. I care about every aspect of our standing in the world. I'm encouraged by Mitt's efforts overseas. Compare it to Obama's foreign trip as a candidate. Or, heck, with Obama's entire foreign policy. It's hard to see how anything Romney said or did is at anywhere near the failure level of the entire Obama foreign policy from day one.
Romney helped his campaign with his overseas trip. He showed he has more than financial expertise and that he is much more qualified to stand on the world stage than Obama, or probably, any of the other Republican primary candidates.
Whether or not London was a gaffe is in question the longer the Olympics continues. Mitt seems to have gotten it right even if he might have been a little too frank.
Speaking of foreign policy gaffes, Mr Obama's statement, made as the POTUS, to the heads of foreign states in Latin America re the malvinas/maldives ranks right up there in terms of sheer stupidity.
A real gaffe would've been if Romney said "You know that Wailing Wall you all are so fond of? You didn't build that. That required the might of Cyrus the Great's administration. Sure, the Jewish master builders were smart, but so were a lot of people in Jerusalem. The Persian bureaucracy made this happen."

This is not the earlier inane presidential hypothetical thread.
Congrats on getting over Clinton, whereas most conservatives never have ...
To answer your silly hypothetical, I survived 5.5 years of Nixon and (8) years of cheney/bush, soooo

=================
The soap opera women may still think that Obama is all adorable and dreamy...but even they have reality intrude on their fantasies of dream boyfriend Obama or Fabio...
Food prices may be up 20%, gas 25%. Each soap opera viewer likely knows of friends and family struggling even more under Obama each new year..
OK, we all know Romney isn't "Dream Boyfriend" material - but these women are fickle...
None wants a Fabio that can't lay pipe. None want a boyfriend that just talks and talks but does nothing to help them in their lives...
And may say..."Well, at least with Ward Cleaver or Ned Flanders running the civics stuff..you know things will get done. Being nice and trusted with a good history of fixing things is not such a bad thing..."
"Time to boot the dream boyfriend and hope some new Fabio comes along in 4 years..."
btw, according to recent political advertising Romney has given up on PA and probably WI and MI as well.
ie mittens has to run the table of so called toss-up states!
Ms. Applebaum (the wife of the Polish foreign minister and a Post columnist) has a somewhat less favorable take on Romney's trip and views.
Would that be the same Ms. Applebaum who was so distressed over the attempts to bring a child rapist to justice?
Poor Shiloh. I know the graveyard's scary. You just keep on whistlin', buddy!
Applebaum is a left-wing op-ed writer for the Washington Post. She's part of the MSM that's pushing the gaffe-tastic meme. Since that isn't taking hold like they hoped, she's trying to move on to a substantive critique of his trip. Her conclusions are remarkably predictable.
Let's go over it again:
Right about the Olympics
Breakfast with the Netanyahus
Making the Palestinian cutthroats mad at him
Endorsement from Walesa
Yeah, the media has to start the science fiction machine.

bathtub swabbie has no brain. It was surgically removed and replaced with a continuous feed of media talking points.
btw, according to recent political advertising Romney has given up on PA and probably WI and MI as well.
Not according to the numbers, but bathtub swabbie thinks the Q-pac and Pew samples are for real.
How sad it must be for an almost 64 year old con lemming to spend all his time at a political blog licking Althouse's ass!
ok, ok, maybe Althouse is getting some satisfaction lol.
Well, bathtub swabbie proves he's the sockpuppet we all knew he was.
Wassamatter, no real rebuttal?
Yet again???

HA HA HA HA HA HA

I bet he has, imbecile!
Why don't you source that dipshit claim?
Let the record show, Althouse's personal pet, edutcher, did not dispute, How sad it must be for an almost 64 year old con lemming to spend all his time at a political blog licking Althouse's ass!
Indeed as the truth shall set you free! :)
take care little buddy ...

Does this make logical sense? Right after Gov. Walker's very successful election in WI? All of a sudden, WI is going hard left? Thanks to the low unemployment, gas, and food prices?
I think that a more realistic hypothesis might be that the Romney camp is budgeting they advertising for the entire campaign, most notably this fall after Labor Day, and that the Obama campaign is panicking and blowing their wad, based on internal polling showing their campaign nearing free fall. Note the almost hysterical pleas from the Obama campaign for more and more money, as they are spending more than they are bringing in, while the Romney campaign is doing just the opposite.
And, the Obama quasi-strategy may yet work. They may just tip the balance far enough to their side that the smart money starts flowing in their direction again, and they will be able to outspend Romney this fall, as they so massively did against McCain four years ago. But, right now, their desperation for more money, to say anything imaginable, etc., is probably having the opposite effect on a lot of that "smart" money.
No Peace Prize for Mitt.
You only resort to invective when you're losing the argument.
As I said, bathtub swabbie has no rebuttal (no class, either, but we knew that), so he seems to be proving to all that he projects mightily; to wit,
Althouse, some of your con lemmings are getting very angry. As per usual. Hopefully you have a con psychiatric team prepared for the Nov. fallout.
QED
take care little buddy ...
And, with his tail between his legs (or maybe it's Hatman's), he slinks off to hide out for another week.
edutcher, what imaginary argument are you talkin' about?
btw, it's ok to lick Althouse's behind as she craves your adoration.
win/win lol
Either the success of the Romster's trip or the poll numbers bathtub swabbie conjures up.
He can answer anytime.
But he won't.
And, yes, tell us how great things are now that manufacturing is down and unemployment is up.
Answer any or all.
PS I do apologize to Ann for all this. She doesn't deserve it.
Unfortunately, the ones with nothing to say usually feel compelled to come out and say it
Indeed, Althouse would probably prefer my #1 groupie, edutcher, to just ignore me.
But alas Althouse's #1 sycophant can't control his obsessive addiction to my posts.
He sees my nic and his blood pressure rises exponentially lol.
And since he's alnost 64 I fear for his health, as should Althouse.
Still waiting for a rebuttal.
To anything substantive.
Wassa matta?
They haven't written up the talking points yet?
His greatest "gaffe" was to repeat a publicly known story that security measures for the Olympics were unstable. Apparently, some people do not like to be reminded of their shortcomings, which, in this case, was concerned with improper confirmation of a negotiated arrangement with third parties.
Chamberlain's "Well, to listen to Mr. Churchill, you'd think that Hitler wanted to kill every Jew in Europe."
Peace in our time!
Yea, he did so well he didn't even have to attend the Olympic event so dear to his wife's heart....
Success! And he even got to tell everyone about his secret meeting! Huzzah!
I dont know this factoid constitutes a gaffe or not--or just a plain old breach of national security. But why in the world would we make "secret arrangements" to supply Syrian rebels with equipment public? Now I think is a good policy move, but to disclose it to the world seems, to me, to be a bit foolish--
Indeed, Althouse would probably prefer my #1 groupie, edutcher, to just ignore me.
I can't speak for our hostess, but the rest of us would prefer you STFU.
CF
Most of Althouse's flock prefer a conservative echo chamber to be sure. Which is why most of you have matriculated here ...
Enjoy the con circle jerk!
Let's see, Romney:
* insulted our British allies
* said racist things about Arabs and Jews
* said more stupid shit in Poland
so this guy is qualified to be President? No fucking way!
"Indeed! Hey at least he kept his insincere smile while makin' all his political faux pas.
Again consistency from train wreck mittens ..."
His political faux pas was not being a democrat. If he was, and that was the ONLY thing different, Shiloh would be defending him to the death. It has nothing to do with any policies.

Appears Alex is the exact same way.
