Remnants of protest.

The view from the top of State Street at noon yesterday.

The "Solidarity Singers" were there, as they are now only once a week. I kept my distance, except with the zoom lens. At one point, you'll be able to read the sign that says "Gun Nuts R Nuts." I can't make out the song from the audio track, but it was one of those old civil-rights spirituals that seem — to this outsider to their religion — out of place applied to the present-day economic issues that affect unionized public employees. I considered walking over to get some better pics, but decided to do a video panorama that emphasizes the context. It was a calm and beautiful day, and many people were enjoying the sidewalk cafés. I don't want you to get the wrong impression of this place.

Still?

These people need hobbies, or lives or something.

"Gun Nuts R Nuts."???

Translation:

"Never let a good crisis go to waste"

Of course, these are the people that try to jam ladies' videocams back in their faces, so do the math.

That's quite all right.

We want you safe, Madame, and the Heroes of the Proletariat have shown themselves to be cowardly scum before.

Yep, count me as a nut who wants to keep his constitutional rights.

Beginning with the first amendment (hello Mayors Menino, Emanuel).

What really astounds me about their pronouncements was how it just slipped off their respective tongues with ease.

Out the heart the mouth speaks.

Never forget, Lenin was very quick to clamp down on civil liberties until the rulers thought the proles could handle them properly.

Never quite got there, did it?

Interesting reading this morning that Rasmussen has Tammy Baldwin leading Hovde by three, Neumann by six, Tommy by seven, and Fitzgerald by ten.

Could Wisconsin send the first openly gay senator to D.C.?

Wisconsin?

Ha. It's that Obama trick -- we have to guess what the intended referent of 'this' is. Is it Madison or just the State Street happening place?

However that comes out, the context makes it all clear -- that's the second half of the Obama trick. We know that both places are really the same, it's all one big never-never land where Good Intentions rule and consequences be damned.

WV: argguer. Perfect.

These people are very tame. Don't worry. They do look for me though, and they would be likely to assault me with a greeting: "Ann Althouse is here. Hello, Ann." That sort of thing. It's a torture of the comfy cushions variety.

Not with a bang but a whimper.

Tammy Baldwin is a huge supporter of public unions, and we have a pro public union senate. Make up your mind Wisconsin!

Garage, Are you going to cower in your basement in October when it's obvious she's a loser? You lost a lot of cred not manning up. However, you're much more legit than the Gay Guerilla.

Nick
I'm so flattered that you and all the other commenters here missed me so dearly. I promise to post every day in the run up to the election, just for you.

But if there is another hot fishing bite going on, I can't guarantee how frequent.

Perhaps, but not this election cycle.

They do look for me though

Well, in all fairness, you're looking for them as well....no?

We will. On both counts. In November.
