The legalization of same-sex marriage in a few states and the District of Columbia — and now at its one-year mark in New York — has resulted in a gay wedding boom, the natural outcome of decades of pent-up demand.
That is BS.. there was no pent-up demand.. the demand is recent and its mostly the few old gays that have been practically together for ever. (in gay relationship years ;)
"If there's a social event you don't really want to attend, then don't go."
Yeah, I was wondering about that guy. How many weddings does a guy get involved in planning.
Not just going to weddings but being in them, shopping, planning... Who does that?! And how many gay friends does he have? Seems like he's too excessively social to be complaining about too many weddings. Where are this man's boundaries?
I've been to 1 gay marriage. About 20 years ago. A friend from high school married another man. Since Kentucky doesn't recognize gay marriage now, let alone then, it was strictly symbolic. They have stayed together since,(good for them) but it's not a marriage as I would consider it. They still sleep with other people, including some women. They do everything together. I don't understand what was accomplished by their getting married though. Marriage is about honoring, and cherishing the other person. Until you want to bang somebody else?
I suspect many gay marriages are like this. A piece of paper, and "We're not promiscuous, we're married" claims. Regardless, it works for them, and that's all that matters to me.
maybe the "bigots" aren't really, you know..."bigots"?
Yes, the next stage in the process is pretending the bigots aren't bigots.
I'm looking forward to the polls they can start doing where they will ask people how they voted on their state's gay marriage ballot measures and everyone will say they voted for marriage equality.
Given the transitory nature of homosexual relationships, the same sex divorce parties will be hard to present to people as being worth all the trouble.

This is the perfect coda to the victory for marriage equality against the bigots.
Considering we're only talking about NY State, where Andy Cuomo bought the votes to get it through, victory would seem to be still on the horizon.
Especially taking into consideration the 38 states where the people have said they don't want it.

What do you think is going to happen in Minnesota, Maine, Washington and Maryland?
The exciting thing about the speed of the gay victory against the bigots is most of them will live long enough to be shunned by polite society and have to answer for their craven irrational hatred.
Weddings have always been gay so I do see the irony.
My daughter gets married in September. The minister is a gay uncle of the groom who my daughter loves. She is a little concerned a few homophobes might have a problem. Women waste too much emotion on that kind of stuff. I told my daughter her deceased grandma, who she loved dearly, would say, "They can go shit in their hat," her favorite saying. Maybe they could shit in hatboy's hat!
Hatboy, I've said this previously. If calling ANYONE who has a problem w/ gay marriage a bigot, how many of those people are going to dig in their heels. Answer: MANY IF NOT MOST OF THEM. There are a lot of people evolving on this but an asshole like you make it less likely they'll come over to your way of thinking. I never abide stupidity..never.

it hasn't happened yet, and, if the people get to vote, there may be some surprises for little Hatman.

Ah, yes, another tolerant Leftist speaks, but, since the people who know this is a bad idea outnumber the ones going along with the Lefty agenda, we may be waiting a long time.

Bigots find ways to justify their bigotry. This is my surprised face.
Sony just found the specs for its next screen projector.
PS When the Demos lose in November, watch for a sea change in the country's views. People tend to take a lead from the current POTUS and the Romster, tolerant as he may be, is still a family guy.
As I say, there's evidence to suggest support for same sex marriage peaked last year. If the Rs get in, not to mention control of the Senate, that's going to accelerate.
As one half of a straight couple that prefers cohabitation (18 years and going strong) I am very glad to see some acknowledgement of how very tedious, boring and uninteresting nuptials can be to those not involved. Weddings are like nose-picking: wonderful for those involved, not so much for those on the outside watching. The local media (Seattle Times) is constantly whipping up emotions around this issue (great for web traffic, I guess). I, for one, feel that one of the most annoying creatures on the face of the earth is a woman planning her wedding. Two lesbians planning their wedding? I can barely get my mind around how intolerable that would be. Like the "Princess for a day" mentality squared. Unbearable.

I don't see how we can answer if we're being shunned. But anyway, I suspect that for most of us the operative feeling isn't anything as elaborate as "craven irrational hatred," but rather simple nausea. So don't hate us, we were born this way.
I didn't know anyone - gay or straight- who got married until I was 28-yrs-old. Okay, an older sister. That's it. I knew NO married people under 45. That's what I get for living in the city, I guess. When you got married, you left.
So total culture shock when I moved back to the suburbs. I went from everyone kinda sorta finally pairing up and maybe they'd have a baby some day to being friends with people a mere five years older that had been married and pregnant since 22 and had teenagers.

As divorce attorneys lick their chops.
I think this is one area where a stereotypical straight male philosophy would be instructive:
If there's a social event you don't really want to attend, then don't go.

I have gay friends... and they don't lie.
Learning to say "no" is a good human trait.

From the article, a very apt observation by a friend:
As my friend Shaw snapped, “Be grateful anyone wants your whiny face around at all.”
Just say No.

A "fight" for a civil right that only takes about 10 years... ain't much of a fight.

I do not know a single gay activist that isn't completely shocked at the distance and speed of the gay victory against the bigots.
Oooh! Can I call hatboy a bigot for hating religious people? This is a fun game!
Uh....if the "battle" didn't take nearly as long as planned, maybe the "bigots" aren't really, you know..."bigots"?

Public Service Announcement for anyone passing through who has not read this blog for the last few years:
Andy R. does not think outside his box. Ever.

I'm gay and have been invited to many gay weddings.
Never went.
Just sent a check.
A room full of gays makes me break out.
tits.
Titus, try wearing a jockstrap.
What does it mean when the proverbial rats jump onto a sinking ship? Plague? (done that).
You know you're over the hill when you start attending more funerals than weddings.
