"On one tape she saw Johnny walking into a room and his reaction to seeing me."

"She apparently told him that he never once looked at her the way he looked at me. So she took that bit and put it on her computer as a screen saver in order to watch it over and over again."

Johnny = John Edwards. She = Elizabeth Edwards. Me = Rielle Hunter, who once met Elizabeth Edwards, who "did not look me in the eye. In fact, she appeared to be frightened."

'He was so strong, fearless, and hoest in every other area of his life, but when it came to her, he was incredibly weak,' Hunter writes.

Humorous typo in that story.

Hunter bragged that she played a role in destroying the 'myth' of John and Elizabeth Edwards, but says the book is part of her 'duty' to Edwards' three other children.

This may be the most insane thing she's ever said, and that's a tough distinction to earn.

His wife puts the evidence that her husband never really loved her on her screen saver so she has to look at it all the time?

Good lord, why?

If that's an insight into how she handled unhappiness, maybe cancer did her a favor.

I thought this was about Johnny Carson and how he would respond when going into the "green room" when Raquel Welch was a guest on the Tonight Show.

But crap, it's more sewage about former Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate John Edwards.

Edwards weakness was a need to admit who he really is. That was therapy for him. Too bad he did not just get a psychologist.

Maybe he wanted to break with the world of Elizabeth and used Rielle as a tool for hurting her enough to get her to leave him.

Edwards is an easy to seduce lower middle class white southern guy who got rich but he still could not become the class act that his wife expected him to become.

If Rielle thinks Edwards will now be a model citizen and father, she will soon find he is offending her enough to get her to leave him too. He will set his sights on a rich woman like his old running mate did.

I can't wait for the day when we never hear another word about these boring, dreadful people.

If these two had a little more class, they could be Snookie.

She kept thinking, "I'm gonna nail your bastard ass to the wall".

Not too much to feel sorry for in this group.

Seriously. What a bitch. As if running around with someone's husband as they are dying of cancer wasn't proof enough...

I'll say one thing--she is a rebel to the end. Is self-absorption a trait necessary to rebellion? I think not but in her case it seems to track.

Seems to me that they all deserved each other--I do feel sorry for the Edward's children though.

One of the UK tablois published pics of Ms Hunter in a bathing suit--not relevant, of course, but a major camel toe going on there--Perhaps the silky pony liked protuberant vaginas.

Let me put it differently and perhaps better:

She has never pretended to be anything other than a predatory, disruptive, assured, self absorbed female who will do what she pleases when she pleases.

John (and apparently Elizabeth too), not so much. Your basic total fakes.

Come on, why would anyone feel sorry for the Edwards children? His daughter chose to show up for court every day and support her father, through all the sewage-testimony, day after day.

The daughter is as much of a Polk Salad Annie as her father. Oh, and she's a lawyer, so that seals it.

Beach body: John Edwards couldn't resist Rielle Hunter, even though it cost him his political career, and new photos of her on the beach give some clues as to why.

Oh Daily Mail. Does it? Does it really? Honestly?

Paul a'Barge:

She's his daughter. I can't fault a daughter for offering her father filial support. Even if he's a cad.

On an unrelated note, what is with all these number photographs in the captchas? Is Google Maps trying to use us to ID address numbers from Streetview or something?

Geoff Matthews বলেছেন...

While I think that John Edwards and Riell Hunter are horrible people, I'll not say a word against Edward's oldest. She may have had her image of her father shattered, but I cannot fault her for wanting to maintain a relationship with him.

If you think the images are bad, try the audio files.

Isn't that called a "screen savor"?

Wow, a story in which every single character is entirely unbelievable so that it is absolutely impossible to know what actually happened at any point in their lives.

Indeed, after reading this I don't even believe reality exists anymore.

He is a weasel. She is white trash. They sure deserve each other.

I can't quite come to grips with the reactions of two highly intelligent, well educated women -- Elizabeth Edwards and Hillary Clinton -- to their learning about marital infidelity.

Are the wives themselves so ambitious -- so greedy to be close to the seat of power -- that they just don't care much about other issues?

Or is their initial attraction (based perhaps on the husband's ambition for power) heightened as the husband becomes more and more successful?

I still call my uncle 'johnny' but mostly that's a holdover from his childhood on my mom's part filtering down to us. Other people call him John.

leslyn,

Is there ANY human value in digging up more awful details? None.

Not in an unethical culture, there isn't. In the real world, Hunter and Edwards wouldn't be willing to show their faces, but in this culture, no one is willing to condemn them, so WTF? GO FOR THE MONEY!!!!

But Tim Maguire takes the cake for being Rielle's equal:

If that's an insight into how [Elizabeth] handled unhappiness, maybe cancer did her a favor.

Anyone who equates a life's betrayal with mere "unhappiness" - as someone is dying - is a heartless fool of such magnitude the entire planet doesn't hold enough quantum theorists to do the math.

Tell me, Tim - how should she have dealt with the insane, searing agony that roiled, uncontrollably, through her body and mind? She's got cancer, remember - at the end of her tether - merely trying to grasp a situation, both, beyond her control or comprehension. What would your shallow mind suggest?

Shopping? A little lite gardening? A night on the town with the girls? A one-night stand with a "hunk"? LSD? Remiixing her IV drip, to get drippier, or just baking a cake with the kids?

Some people's lack of insight, into the human condition, is startling to the point of madness,...

William বলেছেন...

I agree with Crack that Mrs. Edwards was the least most unlikable character in the drama and suffered out of all proportion to her part in the drama. She was Laertes, hiding behind a curtain.... The other characters didn't suffer at all. Sen Edwards saved money on the divorce. Rielle got a big advance. If this is a morality play, what's the moral? Hamlet kills the King and runs off with his mother to live happily ever after.

নামহীন বলেছেন...

I remember seeing at least three cable commentators saying , with just a hint of emphasis, that Edwards's wife was "such a nice person".

That includes whats-her-name from The Hill, the one who appears on Baer's show all the time. The false smile accompanying the comment set off alarms in my limbic system --- subconsciously I
took it as veiled sarcasm.

Seems my intuition was right!

I am Southern, and my grandfather's given name on his birth certificate is Johnny, not John.
