"Don’t sell yourself well? Think of 'you' as a superhero version of yourself."

Advice, from Susannah Breslin, via Instapundit.

Is it good advice? I don't think I want everyone following it. I think Obama follows it.

That's a great video from JibJab, which I'd never seen before. It went up in June 2009. Really interesting to watch now. I just happened upon it, Googling "Obama superman" to illustrate my little "I think Obama follows it" remark.

You need to have stopped a few trains to earn the superhero attribute.

Quaestor said...: Good old Dragnet. According to Wiki Jack Webb began that media brand as a radio drama starring himself as Joe Friday. The clipped laconic style is native to the character called Joe Friday, and not Jack Webb. Actually he was an actor of considerable range. Check out his roles in Sunset Boulevard and Pete Kelly's Blues.

I suspect that by 1969 Webb was thinking the formula had gone a bit stale, and therefore he wasn't above a bit of self-parody from time to time, such as this bit of bathos EDH has found for us. One would have to have a heart of hardest stone not to laugh at the degradation of Stanley Stover.

Those mocked up superhero posters in Stanley's little room were a real hoot, particularly the Captain Lightning lobby card. If that isn't the prototype for one or both of the Ambiguously Gay Duo I'll eat my hat... er, something. I mean dig at that fey mask he wears. It looks look Dorothy Kilgallen's sleep mask from the original What's My Line. Anyway, Dragnet also inspired one of the better Chuck Jones helmed Looney Tunes called Rocket Squad, though the title is mostly ripped from a show called M Squad which itself was mostly a rip of Dragnet. Daffy and Porky not only talk like Joe Friday and his partner, they move like them too. It's animation gold that has never been exceeded IMAO.; 6/10/12, 6:06 PM
