That's what AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka asserts... presumably because it would hurt like hell to admit that after all the protests, all the work petitioning for the recall and promoting new candidates, that it's all going to end up giving Scott Walker a vote of approval, a new mandate.

If Walker wins the popular vote, but is deeply unpopular, that must mean his Democrat opponent and the movement that fronted him is far, far more deeply unpopular. Right?

Scott Walker will win. There is no compelling reason for anyone (except some unionistas) to vote for Tom Barrett. Barrett has nothing on which to base a successful campaign.
Following this Dem loss, the DNC will replace the two idiots who run the WI Dem Party, Tate and Zielinski.
Walker will win again in two years because the Dems have no bench strength. The WI Dem Party, once home to pragmatic moderates like Pat Lucey is now an amalgamation of anarchists, socialists, nihilists and union thugs. This holds no appeal to the moderate liberals whose votes are needed to win statewide elections.

Another trick in this shabby old bag is to apply the term "discredited" to an idea they don't like, which is about to prevail. It's saying, yes you win the debate but you can't actually do what you campaigned for because it's ontologically impossible -- having previously been "discredited ".
What's so gratifying is the AFL-CIO has spent bucketloads of money on what may be a losing cause. This is money that won't go to the Obama campaign.
It's possible that the recall election will end up a split decision, with Walker and his Lt Gov winning but the Dems taking control of the senate. I suspect that outcome is the best case scenario that the Dems can hope (realistically) to achieve. Anyone know enough about Wisconsin politics to comment on whether that would lead to a period of legislative gridlock, or instead a period of reluctant give and take on only those issues that have to be addressed until the next election?
The Republicans have effectively already lost the Senate, since Dale Schultz is a Democrat disguised very poorly as a Republican.
Walker's already gotten the big legislation through. Future bills, I think, not knowing any specifics of what is being considered, probably won't be as dramatic.
Too bad they didn't make Wisconsin a right to work state while they had the chance. But in any case it's nice to see the government unions finally, FINALLY being brought to heel. They've been ripping off their members and the taxpayers long enough.

Wow, the fascism in that just leaps right out at you. Why not actually beat up Walker? If you're trying to bruise him and send a message to other people. Break his leg so that all the "sane" and "rational" people won't do what he did.

The insular union mindset is not going away. The only hope is for the shlubs that belong to come to their senses and realize that shooting oneself in the foot is not productive.
Richard Trumka is an avowed Socialist, and has also courted the Communist movement by welcoming its members into the AFL-CIO.
Trumka claims that he talks with Barack Obama "every day" and visits the White house at least twice every week.
Trumks want the unions to own Wisconsin government, to be able to fully exert influence over everything that government does here, and across the nation. He wants to control the budgets, the law-making, the court appointees, the writing or rules and regulations.
In short, Trumka wants to use government to extract as much money and influence as possible, then re-direct it to make his organization ever more strong. He is using the democratic process to negate democracy.
Scott Walker is one of a very few politicians in America with the courage to stand up against this union fascism. He will win, and he will not be debilitated.
And Trumka will not let the battle end until his union theoracy displaces and fully corrupts our representative republic.
I relish the thought that Trumka has his money in some offshore banking account in the Caymans. If I was an investigative reporter I would start inquiring where the progressive democrats have their money hidden. Somehow it seems inconceivable that they would be getting less than 1% on their savings.

Saw James Hoffa of the Teamsters on the Mr. Ed Show last night, talking about Wisconsin. He starts out "Even if we lose ..." Then went to Comrade John Nichols who, very uncharacteristically, was momentarily at a loss for words.

It’s hard to see Barrett as being anything other than opportunistic here. After the unions got the parade permit and built the floats (so to speak), he intends to step to the front of the parade.
After he wins the primary, does he intend to tack back to being Mr Solidarity to the unions? If not, what’s his platform- “Vote for me because I’m a nicer guy”? As in, “I’ll use Walker’s reforms to keep the state budget (more or less) under control but I’m sure not giving him credit for doing what I’d never do!”
And what is the legitimacy of a re-match anyway? Didn’t Barrett already have his shot against Gov. Walker? Are we supposed to endorse a strategy of “I’ll keep voting until my side wins”?
