"Will you please tell me what’s in there?"
I just have my smaller clutch inside and my wallet.
"So, basically, you have other bags inside the bag?"
Um, yeah.
If men have more physical strength — as the Pentagon,
upholding restrictions on women in combat, says — why is it women who are always carrying bags? Men have basic daily life set up so they have pockets and they only carry around what fits in the pockets. (Sure,
sometimes that looks ridiculous, but not any more ridiculous than that woman at the first link.)

I have a wallet and cellphone. What else do I need to carry around?
In Africa, the women carry the packages so that the men can be free to fight off wild animals and deal with other threats. Or so they say. Even in the big cities, the men walk and the women carry. Balancing it on their heads.
I generally lose my wallet and forget my cell phone. My woman (my fantastic wife) finds and reminds.
I could pack for a 2 week + vacation with the bag in that first link.
Actually, I might not need that much room
Isn't it that men's strength is more upper body strength?
Carrying more weight would make them more top-heavy, and put more load on their lower body. Which, as any man can see, is silly. So we avoid doing so unless it's necessary.
We use our strength to lift things up and put them down, not to carry them around all day.
Carrying things around all day is a job for lower-body strength; i.e., woman's work.
:P
More and more, men carry bags as well. I often carry a laptop bag, which is for all intents and purposes, a purse.
Fashion has a lot to do with it. Women tend to wear dresses, and tighter fitted clothes, in which keys and wallets would leave unsightly bulges. And (many) women carry around makeup, which takes up more room than you can comfortably store in a pocket.

Ditto. I've downsized my keyring as well.
"If men have more physical strength ...why is it women who are always carrying bags?"
The two issues are unrelated.
I'm thinking body parts. That bag lady is up to no good.

Tank, she's out of your league. She's not even going to have lunch with you. It's just as well for both of you.
I've gone on multiday backpacking trips with a backpack smaller than that.
Literally everything
Her bag is a TARDIS?
"If men have more physical strength — why is it women who are always carrying bags?"
Ahh..., 'cause it's women who think they need all that stuff?
Just looked at the picture. Except for the food and water, I take less stuff on my 2 week backpacking trips.
I have a wallet, keys, and reading glasses. I grudgingly take a cell phone when I have to.
That's how Mister Rouke used to take Tattoo on dee planes, dee planes.
"... Just looked at the picture. Except for the food and water, I take less stuff on my 2 week backpacking trips..."
Holy crap, I just looked at it too. That's a suitcase.
Guys invaded Normandy with less stuff.
Actually, most women carry a wallet, cell, lipstick, mirror, and a comb in some small bag and then there's that bag with the rest of the "useful" stuff that gets left in the car a lot.

That's one of the big arguments against women, not only in the more non-technical Services (Army, etc.), but in a lot of brute force occupations (construction, etc.).
WV "isterse" A report with few words.
Women carry bags of that size (1) because they want to and (2) as a status signal to other women.
Men generally don't carry large bags, because they don't want to, and social status is conveyed otherwise.
Women'a ACU's have the same pockets as a man's
"...and then there's that bag with the rest of the "useful" stuff that gets left in the car a lot."
Well, that's OK. I just bought a truck, so I can carry a big telescope.
I've never understood women's clothes and their attitudes to them.
They will wear the most uncomfortable looking clothes because some designer told them it looks good.
In many cases, these designers are male. And many of them seem to be gay (NTTAWWT). I would think that a gay male would not know what was comfortable for a woman (because he is male) and would not care very much (because he is gay)
So why are women so dumb as to buy into this?
And shoes! Don't get me started on shoes.
Or cosmetics.

How long do those women stand in one place with their heavy handbags? The Israeli army (IDF) found that women were suffering stress fractures not only in combat situations but while on guard duty, that is to say merely standing for significant lengths of time with heavy equipment.
Tank, LB,
I agree about the bag size. What the heck is in it?
I routinely travel for weeks at a time with nothing more than a carryon wheelie bag and a roomy laptop case.
(I also stay at hotels with laundries, like Hampton Inns)

OK. Where'd you get that picture of me?
She said literally! If the bag holds literally everything, she doesn't need to go meet her friend for lunch. Her friend, and the lunch, are already inside the bag. On the other hand, how would she ever find them, in amid literally everything? What happens when she takes literally everything out?
... I carry a bag that includes winter gloves, a scarf, a hat, a pad of paper, pens and pencils, my 3DS, a camera, a recorder and my wallet.
... maybe I'm a woman.
I've been using the same wallet for 15 years. It's falling apart and I've had to glue it together and last week it got run over by a car, but I haven't found anything better.
I carry it in my hand or put it in a pocket and put my cell phone in another pocket.
As Gilda Radner said, "I base most of my fashion taste on what doesn't itch". The too-tight clothes, vertiginous heels, caked-on makeup, designer bags...what a scam.
a carryon wheelie bag
If you're wheeling it, you're not carrying it, and you can't carry it on.
That would be my rule on MadisonMan Airlines.
(Been flying a lot lately and those oversized "carry-ons" are ridiculous)
Recently I was walking from work to my car to go home. A woman, age 30 to 35, I work with was leaving at the same time. She had 4 bags, a backpack, workout bag (we have exercise facilities at work), a lunch bag, and her purse. Not that unusual for the younger half of the women I work with.
I just keep everything in my pockets (keys, Swiss Army knife - a gift from OJ, cell phones, wallet and checkbook, pen, Carmex, cash, small notepad, digital sound recording device, small camera, toothbrush and small tube of toothpaste, comb, 5 hour energy drink, aspirin, survival kit, cigarette lighter and a few other odds and ends. ). During the winter, I keep my gloves and knit cap in my jacket pockets.
Men have basic daily life set up so they have pockets and they only carry around what fits in the pockets.
Or that's what we want you to think anyhow.
I don't have a car, which might be why I keep a bag. I also like to write and take notes, and play video games or read on my Nook on the bus. So... I understand the need for bags.
I will never have more than one though.
DADvocate: how do you fit all that in your pockets? Is it organized?
Maybe I just need more pockets.
DADvocate: how do you fit all that in your pockets? Is it organized?
Cargo pants with lots of pockets.
Actually, I'm just kidding. I only carry the basics.
I'm 60 years old and I carry around an O'Neill surfer backpack. It carries all my important shit; books to read for downtown time in offices, airports, the DMV, etc. Extra shirt since I tnd to wear my food. Music pods, cameras, and all sorts of sundry and other stuffs. Extra Sex Wax for my surfboard (tropical and cold water blends, baggies (surf trunks), and a rash guard. My medical and pill compartment (being old an all). My girlfriend calls it my purse. She's right of course but it goes so much further....
A guy needs a pocket knife as well as a wallet.
Designers of men's clothing keep trying to sell us clothing that has no pockets, which presumably would force us to carry a man-purse.
But we keep resisting, because we like having lots of large pockets.
But when they are insufficient, we use a small backpack. Most of us have no intention of walking around with some sort of clutch, or even a shoulder bag.
Oh yeah, forgot to add pocket knives, flashlight, little tool kit, and a whole bunch of other guy stuff. Small roll of Duct tape! Just call me McGyver...
It's so our hands are free to carry other things. At work.
Guys also use belts.

Good one, DADvocate, you had me going. The Carmex was a nice touch.
I have a purse that is a wallet with a strap plus a pocket for a cell phone that I use for reading glasses. My cell phone is in a pocket. I carry my wallet/ purse inside my backpack most of the time. So, bags inside of bags.
Men
If you do not carry a clean hanky
then
when a beautiful women sneezes
you
will not have a clean hanky
and will not be able to offer her one
and you will not, therefore, get laid.
So.
Carry a hanky for more hanky panky.
If men have more physical strength ...why is it women who are always carrying bags?
If men are taller, why do women own more shoes?
On the other hand, how would she ever find them, in amid literally everything?
Don't forget she has a head start, because she's in there too.
In the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics, there must be versions of the universe in her bag in which she is already having lunch with her friend.
It has been my experience,Ann, that the womens what carry a wallet in their hip pocket like a guy are dykes.
1. Women carry handbags
2. Men don't
3. Therefore, women are as strong as men
4. Accordingly, they should be in combat with men.
Yep, makes sense to me.
Yep, makes sense to me.
Exzellent. You vill not haf to be lined up und shot.
Women's clothes (for the most part, and especially white-collar work attire) do not have pockets. Once you have accepted the idea that you need something (a bag) to carry wallet and and coinpurse and keys and cellphone and glasses and a pen (these are the things men carry in pockets) then it's a short step to making the bag big enough to carry other things.
what ever happened to the "Man Purse"?
LOL. Women carry our these huge bags because they're OCD. How many men are engaged in heavy lifting occupations like furniture moving, delivering appliances, mining, construction? You will never see a female on a construction site. Also when it comes to raw physical strength, the average woman can't lift as much weight nor for as many repetitions as the average male.
That's simply human evolution. The males were stronger for the hunt and carving up the carcass and the females gathered nuts & berries and cooked the chunks of meat.
David - in Africa the women carry 10 gallon sized jugs of water on their heads while the men are off hunting bison or something.
I have a large bag that I carry my own things and my kids' things in. They call it the great big bag of everything. It is less than 1/3 the size of the monstrosity that woman was carrying.
That said, I use my bag to carry my wallet, cell phone, keys to work and personal keys, lunch, an umbrella all of the time. I usually have a book (or two) and bunch of stuff for distracting my 5 year old as well. Why do I carry all of this? Because my life is easier with the stuff than without it.
My husband uses a backpack to carry many of the same things, but not the kids' toys. He has said there are times he regrets that.
"It’s my everyday bag. You can put literally everything in it."
At last, a rejoinder to the old joke: "You can't have everything -- where would you put it?".
Reminds me of the bags soviet citizens carried just in case they found something for sale.
