A lovely picture made grating by the limitations of digital imaging technology. A subtle introduction of noise can achieve the grainy effect of film cameras from years past--beautiful! Too much noise, as in this picture, draws attention to instrument used to capture it. Happily, Nikon's latest high-end camera has an ISO capacity over 204,000, which is sensitive enough to capture a fast-moving object in a room lit only by the brilliance of Thomas Friedman's mind--which is to say, not well lit at all.
When participating as extras in theater productions many decades ago, while still in pre-adult school, we were told to say over and over just under our breaths, while relating to each other *visibly* with animation, "Peas and carrots, peas and carrots, peas and carrots, peas and carrots. Peas and carrots, peas and carrots. Peas and carrots? Peas and carrots, peas carrots. Pease and carrots? Peas and carrots."[repeat loop]
The whole point was to replicate a convincing, background whisper to the main-event conversation. To this day, I'm a tad skeptical as to whether that worked (and I never did understand why it was supposed to, specifically). But maybe it did. In the long run, it sure didn't matter. I know that, for sure.
My yard is a mess. I used Ace Hardware brand weed and feed this year instead of Scot's and I'll never buy Ace brand lawn products again. Worst weeds I've ever had.
I'm going to hire a lawn service this year. Due to my heart problem I just can't do the yard any more. Well, I can do it, but it's too difficult and not very wise. I've always enjoyed that work and I hate to give it up.

Is that a plant nourishment plant belching out food off in the distance?
Cool pix. Reminds me of a 19th century cityscape.
Reminiscent of the time The Blonde, B Treasure Dog, and I were stranded in Elkhart IN for 3 days waiting out the closed roads.
Always nice to snuggle down in such circumstances.
Just got home. It's a beautiful night for a walk outside...
Like.
That's beautiful, Althouse.

A Hotel is also a Cafe, so I presume we can chat.
This Monday night seems to be a long way until Mardi Gras which is a week from tomorrow, which makes Easter April 8th this year.
And let's hope the Catholics give up Obama for Lent since he gave them up for no good reason.
There will also have to be a lot of NCAA Basketball played between now and Easter. I wonder if Wisconsin has a good team this year?
I have a friend whose daughter needs to do well next on a "critical analysis test" for admission to Nursing School. What's that?
Revenent always does good critical analysis...he criticizes well.
The Post-Romantics
In the dark crepuscular night
In the steeped in sepia night...
Truth be told we'd rather be safe
Indoors and comforted by light.
In Defense of Valentine's Day
Nice piece. Excellent point.
Thanks for sharing that.
Also very nice pic of you.
Out of the mouths of four year olds:
"Dinosaurs dreamed about people because people were only make believe when dinosaurs were on the earth."
Ha.
Someone didn't email me to ask why I want President Obama impeached: Because of the 19th Amendment.

How thick is your bubble?
Scroll down and take the bubble test.
I scored between 9 and 12.
It's winter? High of 74 here today.

I scored between 9 and 12, also! But, I will say some of the questions made me reflect on where I am today versus how and where I grew up!
That's a great photo, Althouse. Is it sharp enough to be blown up? If not a little noise reduction in Photoshop and you have a masterpiece.
