This is what science on NPR has come to? It's not a conclusion, it's a suspicion, based on a feeling.
Most people think Chocolate ice cream tastes great. So, I gathered 20 people and gave them ice cream, five got generic chocolate ice cream, five got rocky road, five got a gourmet dark chocolate ice cream, and five got a chocolate Moose Tracks. All 20 really liked their ice cream.
I think it has to do with lingering self-perceptions of racism and a desire to seek more unity with people and objects of color.
What I really think is that on the way home our desires for comfort actually exert power over the universe so it bends time and space to our whims. Our wills always exert this authority over our physical space, but usually we don't wish enough for it to really become perceptive. By wishing into the universe to be home, however, it subjugates space-time just enough that we are surprised by our inherent powers to shape reality according to what brings us inner peace and harmony. That's what Crack MC told me at least, and I believe him!
Ground covered once diminishes the senses that recognize environment which is new ( even if new in the short run). Hence making the return journey, even if the same amount of time as getting there, seem lessened.
Plus it does not hurt the mind to know you are coming home to your own bed and cooking!
I think the trip home is faster because you don't have to check in and find your room and so forth. Just knowing that it's going to be your own place when you arrive makes the whole trip seem easier.

There, now I've done my own NPR science.

"The trip home seems shorter."
Well, in my experience, if it was a trip home in a wet bathing suit from the swimming pool...
The Blonde always feels that way.
Especially if we've gone out to eat.
Trippy.
The article is itself an interesting example of the confusion between a cause and an explanation.
I question the premise. I've never found the trip home faster, even when it in fact is (jetstream etc).

Oh it's nice to go traveling, to London, Paris or Rome,
But it's so much nicer, yes it's so much nicer to come home.
Francis Albert agrees.

The kids don't keep asking when you're gonna get there on the way back.
