I'm glad this isn't the case. On the day my son was born, almost 11 years ago, my husband registered a number of domain names with son's name so he'd have them to use one day if he wanted them. (We figured if he didn't, the likelihood would be they wouldn't be available). He's still a little young yet, but we definitely want to keep the rights for him. We planned ahead and paid the fees and kept renewing and paying; it's really not our problem that someone didn't beat us to those names.
I think it's very unfortunate Althouse doesn't have Athouse, and that price does seems outrageous; however, she could have reserved her own domain names years ago herself, if she'd wanted to and got there first.
