"Oh, God. So pathetic. I never thought I'd feel sorry for Caribou Barbie. Go lie down in your political grave, Hon. It's over."

That's one of 2 top-rated comments at YouTube on Meade's video, which I blogged here, showing Sarah Palin giving a speech here in Madison over obnoxious noise-making by people who don't like her. I blogged my video of the same thing here, where I question why these people thought it was a good idea to try to drown out the speaker.)

Go lie down in your political grave.... That's what YouTube viewers have given the most "thumbs up" to.

A more civil comment:
And to add a personal experience about yesterday here in Madison. Before the rally I had a very good civil discussion with a tea party member and I had gone into the day with the goal of getting as many hugs from them as possible haha. I got one from him and one from a lady at the rally. SO although it was loud and contentious, there were a couple walls brought down. Although I did go back to booing and being kind of obnoxious, it was more directed at Palin though.
See? He thinks he's a good guy.

By the way, the liberal meme on Saturday's rally is that pathetically few tea partiers showed up. Now, why was that? With Sarah Palin appearing, you'd think there would have been an impressive crowd. Is it that Palin and the Tea Party movement are on the wane? Or is it that the kind of people who voted for Scott Walker (and, more recently, Justice Prosser) no longer feel good/safe coming to the Wisconsin Capitol.

I would have loved to hear Sarah Palin live on Saturday. But I wasn't about to drive then stand in freezing rain and high winds.

I'll catch her when she comes to Waukesha County :)

FloridaSteve বলেছেন...

I'm not from Wisconsin but from following the coverage on here the only reason I might have attended the Tea Party rally to see Palin would have been as an act of defiance to the protesters. The rest of the atmosphere seemed so unpleasant and hostile (dangerous?) to the Tea Party attendees as to suck any possible joy right out of the event. Rational disagreement might at least illicit sympathy to their point of view but this bullshit?.. no way in hell will I ever sympathize with the left on this one. They want to polarize. Well here you go. Go fuck yourselves.

Here's a nice article from Taki's Magazine, whatever the hell that is. Apparently British.

Title: Fuck the Public Sector. Seems they've got the same problems over there.

And as an aside, Althouse you revealed your own public sector arrogance yesterday when you gloated that the gay marriage issue will be resolved by fiat by two lawyers and a judge.

Pesky voters. Getting in the way of the regulatory state run by smart people like Althouse. Give them the opportunity to vote and... well, they're just bigots! What can you expect.

You are doing an Althouse. Define something as an "equal rights" issue, and you've automatically disqualified the voters.

Neat trick.

We must leave all "equal rights" issues to our much smarter administrative class.

Oddly, haven't you noticed that all issues are now issues of "bigotry?" All opposition to Obama is "racism."

So to paraphrase the more civil comment.
The Tea-partiers were nice, I was a jerk (just not directly to them) so I'm hopeful they'll see the light and come around to my way of thinking.

নামহীন বলেছেন...

And, what history books have you been reading?

As I recall, there was a presidential election in 1860 that revolved around the issue of slavery, resulting in the election of Abraham Lincoln.

Which led to the Civil War and 600,000 deaths.

Slavery was resolved in the courts?

Beta Rube বলেছেন...

I think there are several factors that account for the turn out. Obviously the weather was awful, and I saw a lot of shivering folks who toughed it out for two hours.

The atmosphere was atrocious, as it was very hard to hear all but the loudest speakers. I only heard about half of what Palin said and had to catch up later on the intertubes.

Mostly, though, I think the left is just better at mobilizing and protesting. They have 50 years of perpetual aggrievement, and this is the first overtly political thig I have done since I was a teen.

Also, they lost and this is all they have left. They lost in November, they lost the Supreme Court race, and juvenile foot stomping and wailing is what remains for them.

vet66 বলেছেন...

The Tea Party, with Wisconsin folks leading the way, have moved on. The clueless drones are at the proverbial train station shouting obscenities at the disappearing caboose.

Their loss is amplified by the death throes of the unions who thew money they could not afford at Walker and Prosser. They doubled-down and lost. The drones in the rain and sleet are left looking for a rainbow that was always an illusion easily exploited by the progressives/marxists.

The useful idiots have been run hard and put away wet.

By the way, the liberal meme on Saturday's rally is that pathetically few tea partiers showed up. Now, why was that?

Why were there few tea partiers, or why was that the liberal meme?

I'll answer the second question first. It was the liberal meme because they desperately want the government to go back to business as usual, and for that to happen they need to minimize the influence of the tea party.

Why were there few tea partiers there? Because the tea partiers have been winning, so they are no longer as upset. Therefore they have gone back to their lives. But they have not gone back to sleep. If the politicians go back to business as usual, they will speak up again.

More to the point, there was a constitutional amendment (#13) afterward, duly passed by Congress and ratified by the states. It was not an emanation of a penumbra invented by judges.

TosaGuy বলেছেন...

I am in Wauwatosa. We do have our shenanigans on our city council centered around one alderpeep who is cozying up to the unions in preparation for a run for mayor next year. The core of the issue was three union contracts that had a fair amount of concessions, but not as much as the city could have gotten after the CB privilege bill was in force. In the meantime, the city was paying about $15K a week more under the expired contract. So the issue in the immediate term got couched as a fiscal one and that allowed the moderates cover to vote for the contracts.

There was a point in the 80s where Jesse Jackson, a Palin analogue, went from viable candidate to ubiquitous media droner with a soundbite ready on any bit of news..and happy to deliver it from his multi-million radio and TV talk show empire he was constructing in Chicago to compliment Rainbow-PUSH and his corporate shakedowns.

Somewhere along the way, people in the middle just got sick of the guy. He transitioned from credible candidate to another well-paid Geraldo Rivera of the airwaves.

Though he still commanded a pack of loyal supporters that held Jesse as a "sent from Jesus" salvation of America, and was still cast in the "Kingmaker" role.

Palin is following a similar arc. The number of people interested in her is up, she has a media empire rivalling Jesse's. Like Jesse in his post-serious years as a media talking head - can command several thousand yahoo supporters and hundreds of hecklers at each rally.

While at the same time the number of people that respect her and see her as a viable Presidential candidate dwindles a little further each month.

Palins rise and fall seems to be following Jesses footsteps. Except now, things are accelerated..She is getting richer faster than Jesse, but people are also getting sick of her faster than they tired of Jesse..everywhere..all the time.

===============
The career arcs of the two demagogues always ready with a pithy soundbite but unqualified for high office are more similar than you care to admit.

The initial fervor.
The building of a cultlike following.
The "other sides" viceral hatred of Jesse and Sarah.
The quick exploitation of that adoration and "controversial dislike of so many" into millions in media revenue as the cult politican became an ubiquitous talking head for profit.
Followed by slow erosion in credibility even within the party they came from.
Followed by a "kingmaker" role where they are feted to get their rabid followers on board for other candidates.
Then Jesse got marginalized by Clinton and was largely irrelevant during Bush and was put in his political grave by Black Messiah.

"Cult of Goddess Sarah" people have yet to see the last acts of Jesse Jackson play out for "Our Sarah!", but Palin is on a shorter 24/7 media cycle than Jesse had.
She has gotten richer faster than Jesse, but will fade faster for that reason.

Dear friend shiloh,

Henry's original allusion to Nixon was completely on point, serving to illustrate the main point about Palin's political prospects and thereby contributing to the discussion.

The main body of your remarks about Nixon were roughly on point, claiming that a comparison of Palin and Nixon overlooked some key aspects of their respective political qualifications or abilities. But your "btw" had nothing to do with the discussion, since it only addressed Nixon per se and the overall legitimacy of his election. It was, therefore, a deflection. The stats I posted were addressed at your deflection (which should normally be ignored) simply because the most reasonable explanation of your participation in these threads is that you are seeking enlightenment. Consider my comment a counter-deflection intended to help keep the discussion on-track.

BTW, your habit of meta-commentary on others' commentary would go over a lot better if you could summon a bit of wit.

Also, you may want to learn the difference between "infer" and "imply."

Perhaps the tea party folks were content that they kicked ass at the polls and left the useless chin wagging to the progressives. It is something that the left are good at and apparently quite fond of.

"Caribou Barbie" tells me a lot more about the speaker than about Palin - who I can't recall ever using such sorts of rhetoric against her opposition.

But, well, the more ire people like that aim at her without any basis beyond class signaling, the better she looks in comparison...)

I’d say you’re a poor loser because you even defend what occurred at the counter-rally and have yet to say anything like, “OK, so far, you guyz have stomped my guyz, BUT…..” Poor/Sore Losers don’t/can’t acknowledge that their team has had a very bad First Half, even though it’s obvious to ALL.

You want to be less of a Sore/Poor Loser, then admit Walker won, Prosser won, and that UNLESS something amazing happens there isn’t go to be much movement of the “recall front.” From there, you can point out the rays of light for your side, otherwise you just come off as a carping sore loser.

Look dood/doodette I’ve been there; 1992, 1996, 2008…it ain’t fun, but you can TRY to be magnanimous, AND realize that Boooosh had “realigned” America in 2004, and Obama in 2008…according to some people. Nothing is final in politics, there’s always tomorrow. But to get from TODAY until then it helps to own up to the current reality…in your case so far, since November 2010 you’ve been losing. Once you accept and acknowledge that, you can move on to a better tomorrow.

You know what, as much as I care for Governor Palin, I was leaning towards hoping she wouldn't run in 2012. Something in me changed after her appearance in Madison. Maybe she won't win the nomination, maybe she's too toxic for one side of America, maybe she doesn't please the Republican establishment, but daggummit, let her run.

The Presidential debates are going to be 100x more interesting with her around, and even media who despise her, know she's money in the bank for them.

Besides, she's the most solid conservative in the bunch. So yeah.

LET HER RUN.

Is it that Palin and the Tea Party movement are on the wane? Or is it that the kind of people who voted for Scott Walker (and, more recently, Justice Prosser) no longer feel good/safe coming to the Wisconsin Capitol.

The most likely explanation, in my opinion, is that the Wisconsin tea party crowd feels like it has won -- Walker won, the budget fix passed, Prosser won. Wisconsin looks to be in pretty good shape at the moment. So I would expect the anger and frustration that motivates the movement to be at a low point, right now.

I’d say you’re right. But everyone likes a better story…Beck’s ratings are down at Fox, or fewer people listen to Limbaugh now…..yeah because the game is a period break, their ratings, except for Beck’s Fox ratings, will pick back up as 2012 progresses. But many like the idea that the storm has passed because fewer people listen to Limbaugh/turned up to see Palin, because it says the Dawn is here, for their side.

Agree with Ferdinande. Miss Sarah in a debate with Little Zero would not be a pretty sight. the more the Lefties say, "Bring it on", the more they need to remember how unwise that is.

Miss Sarah impressed a lot of people not only with her speech, but merely by showing up in a hostile venue (Dan Riehl used the phrase, "she rides to the sound of the guns", indicating a willingness to take on big issies like ZeroCare and QE2), something Little Zero hasn't got the guts to do.

PS As to jobs, AK is one of the few states in the country where the office of Governor actually has some authority.

She actually had to make decisions. Unlike Little Zero who spent 15 years of his life in elective positions where he ran unopposed and voted "present".

The only thing he ever attempted on his own was organizing a community in Chi-town called Altgeld Gardens which resulted in its being declared unfit for human habitation.

Unknown বলেছেন...

PPS Most of the candidate Miss Sarah supported in the last election won.

You know what, as much as I care for Governor Palin, I was leaning towards hoping she wouldn't run in 2012.

The goal of the anti-lefties should be to re-elect Tea Party Repubs to the House and to take over the Senate, preferably with Tea Party Repubs.

The Repub presidential candidate ought to be someone like Palin who, without regard to winning or losing, will take it to Oblahblah about his irresponsibility and his lying.

As of now, she and Herman Cain appear to be the only Repubs on the horizon with balls which is why the Repub establishment - guys without balls - will probably not permit their nomination.

Have you seen Obama's recent numbers? And the trend line is getting worse. The wonderful thing about Obama is no democrat can ever with a straight face claim any republican is unqualified for president after Obama set the bar so low. A dried out and cleaned up street bum is better qualified than Obama so what ever you say about Palin the one thing she isn't is being less capable or qualified than Obama. You are better qualified than the Zero. Not that is saying much. The great thing about Obama is that this country will never have a less qualified or intelligent person occupying the White House. We have hit bottom. We can only rise from here.

As mentioned in the comments Nixon was not impeached, Clinton was. Nixon resigned in disgrace because of a sense of shame (there was no way he would have been impeached and removed) which is a lot more than can be said of either Clinton or Obama. Oh! I made a mistake, there is one person even dumber and less qualified than Obama: Joe Biden. No wonder Obama picked him for VP, as insurance.

Yeah, that Sarah Palin sure is stupid.

In 2010, Jackson Lee stated that, "...victory had been achieved" by the United States in Vietnam. She went on to state, "Today, we have two Vietnams; side-by-side, North and South, exchanging and working. We may not agree with all that North Vietnam is doing, but they are living in peace. I would look for a better human rights record for North Vietnam, but they are living side by side.

Hey, which Democrat thought:

1. Neil Armstrong planted the American flag on Mars?

2. FDR "got on tv" after the stock market crashed?

3. "Austrian" is a language?

4. Guam was in danger of capsizing if too many people were on one side of it?

You lefties have some nerve talking about ignorance and intelligence.

"I never understood how the left can use terms like "Caribou Barbie" and not realize the sexism inherent with that."

I always get a chuckle out of it. It's meant to be sexist, so of course they realize it. They are sexist on purpose.

That's okay, though, because sexism is only bad when conservatives do it. Liberals have cause.

Ahem. Anyhow.

I think that "Caribou Barbie" is funny and actually rather flattering. But then I don't hate on Barbie. Palin seems to think it's funny, too, which I base on her participating in a "Caribou Barbie" joke on SNL.

Oh... I've got a Barbie joke. It goes like this... "Women's Studies is where Math-is-hard Barbie goes to complain about the under representation of women in the hard sciences."

HA HA HA

;-)

But Sarah likes caribou. That's why she authorized the killing of a grand total of 14 wolf individuals to save a caribou herd so it went from 0% calves making it to a year old to something like 20%.

Col Mustard বলেছেন...

And (3) of palin's TP'ers: O'Donnell, Buck, Angle went down in flames in an otherwise wave mid-term election for Reps.

O'Donnell had O'Donnell (and media smear machine) to blame, not Palin. Buck was quite possibly done in by thousands of illegal 'votes'. Angle was headed straight toward victory lane until Harry's 'people' marshalled the union vote in 'Vegas' at the 11th hour.

Did you mean like this?

Even among Democrats, Obama isn’t a slam-dunk. He gets 70% of that 35% to commit to his re-election bid, but 12% “definitely” plan to vote against him. Obama-cons are in short supply as well, as only 3% of Republicans in the survey will vote for the incumbent. Nearly a majority of independents have made up their mind to oppose Obama, 47%, with only 32% planning on casting a vote for him and 21% undecided.

Palin isn't holding elective office, bozo.

Revenant বলেছেন...

Nixon didn't resign because he was "capable of shame". He resigned because he was informed by his party leadership that he would be impeached, convicted, removed from office and criminally prosecuted if he did not.

And since he was, in fact, guilty of all sorts of criminal activity, he resigned.

Enough with the historical revisionism. Why the hell Republicans want to defend a guy who was even more of a socialist than Barack Obama is a mystery to me.
