The clown is not amused.

P1080321

I love the array of characters in this picture (by me, from yesterday's Tea Party/anti-Tea Party protest). Enlarge.

The girl in the Bucky Badger hat is holding a sign that says: "This Revolution is powered by: PIZZA & BEER/Not TEA and BULLSHIT." The clown's arms are folded across his chest — I know, it looks like he has no arms — so you can only read half of the button he's wearing: "I could be..." I could be... what?! The woman on the right with a red headband has a sign about Reince Priebus. Reince Priebus. It's about time somebody concentrated on the Reince Priebus threat. The man in the brown fedora looks like he's reading the newspaper, but it's another sign.

As for "I can see 1840 from here"... I just don't know, but the man seems awfully pleased about it. Does he mean to invoke "I can see Russia from my house" (because Sarah Palin's in town)? What happened in 1840? He's referring to the year, right? William Henry Harrison was elected President in 1840, and proceeded to die the following April, after going out without a coat on a cold stormy spring day and catching a cold.

It was a cold and stormy spring day in Madison yesterday, and I don't know if Sarah Palin wore a coat. Nor do I know if the man with the "I can see 1840 from here" meant to refer to Sarah Palin's health.

By the way, William Henry Harrison's last words were: "Sir, I wish you to understand the true principles of the government. I wish them carried out. I ask nothing more."

Would you carry a sign that said that?

Why do you love this crap?

To me, this play acting is the very embodiment of the spoiled brat status of public employees in Wisconsin. Job security gives them the life of a dependent child.

This shit is ugly as hell.

Fire the SOBs and let them learn what it's like in the public sector.

Then, let see if they want to play kindergarten make believe.

Any chances he might have had of surviving his illness were pretty well kiboshed by the "medical" treatments he received, which among other things included opium, castor oil, and leeches.

You're not from around here. We love brats in Wisconsin. We have brat festivals!

The collective left think that a skit on SNL = reality.

How long, Althouse, do you think it is until these "colorful characters" resort to bombs and murder?

You know, like back in 1970.

Apparently 1840 is in reference to Palin's blood libel analogy that got liberals so worked up in the aftermath of the Tuscon massacre. There were some blood libel events that year in Damascus and on the island of Rhodes.

The sign is obviously directed at fellow true believers, there probably weren't ten people at the entire rally who "got" the message.

I would guess that he means Tea Party policies would put us back to 1840-ish era (pre-abolition, and before there was much government regulation of businesses).

He doesn't want to say 1773, or 1776, because we associate positive things with those years.

When the collective left wish someone dead - the news media ignore it. Jared Loughner is a deranged leftwing lunatic- and the media collectively agreed: The shooting in Arizona was all "Sarah Palin's fault!"

Is it any wonder the left want to kill Palin and fantasize about doing so? She's just so stupid and evil. After all, she said "she can see Russia from her house".

Perhaps he meant something all the lines of the 1840s in general. See my comment in the previous thread.

1840 may be the year in which the people who laughed at Palin for saying "party like it's 1773" think the Boston Tea Party actually happened.

Althouse, go ahead and enjoy your brats, but I recommend avoiding the spoiled ones.

At the risk of being politically incorrect, (oh what the heck, I can't be bothered with "correctness" very often) I'd look at the lefty protesters in Madison and repeat the old cliche about why California is like a bowl of granola: "Once you get rid of the fruits and nuts, all you've got left is a bunch of flakes". Seems an apt description of the fueled by pizza and beer and I can see 1840 crowd.

These (?????) are best viewed from a distance--at least for me. Keep them all in Madison.

Tks for the updates

Why do you love this crap?

It's AA and her tagalong's job to love this crap lol as her blog is all about irrelevant minutia, like most political blogs.

Indeed, she loves WI "brats" as it's a fetish to her ...

Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door! :-P

ie w/out a liberal opposition, Althouse would have no purpose in life!

The first wagon train to CA?

Which ended up with most of the wagons going to OR, BTW.

Like most Lefties, the guy with the 1840 sign is saying something that only has significance to him, but he thinks makes him look terribly smart to the rest of the world while everybody else thinks he's a self-satisfied jerk.

It seems to be a disease with these people.

PS The guy who led the wagon train went on to CA, clerked for John Sutter, hit it big in the Gold Rush, and went on to become one of the biggest ranchers in the state with a long career in politics.

Last Sunday afternoon, I was sitting in Dupont Circle Park in Washington, DC, while about 200 protesters demonstrated to "Close the SOA." They had a band, many printed banners and signs, dancers with paper mache puppet heads, and even costumed demonstrators on stilts, but nowhere was a sign that explained the abbreviation "SOA." Onlookers called out, "What's the SOA?" but none of the demonstrators answered, deafened by their own chants.

If you don't know what 1840 refers to, you're not his audience. He's the solipsistic star of the movie of his life, and you, dear onlooker, are not.

BTW, "SOA" probably refers to the School of the Americas, which lefties say teaches Latin American military officers how to torture. I guess its continued operation is yet another way Obama is like the Bushes, Reagan, and Eisenhower.

Don't know what the man could see from 1840, but I know that he is one of the ring-in-nose liberals who actually thinks that Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from her backyard.

Apparantly he watches too much SNL and Tina Fey has him fooled.

What Sarah said to Charlie Gibson, in response to a question about Russia is: "They are our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land in Alaska."

The Diomede islands stretch into the Bering Straight from Alaska. Separating the Russian Tommorrow Island and our Yesterday Isle is but 2.4 miles of water -- and the International Date Line.

Usually "I could be" buttons or bumper stickers end in "fishing." Not likely in the clown's case, but possible, 'cause....ya never know.

That is a pretty good collection to catch in one shot. We don't use hats in CA. It tells too much.

The sign is purposefully obscure so that women might ask you what it means, breaking the ice. He doesn't come out of the basement often, but wants to make good use of the excursion.

Today was Palm Sunday and the church was much more crowded than usual. As the crowd walked along Court St to go to Caputo's and Good Food to get the groceries to cook Sunday Dinner we passed a whole bunch of people on line to get brunch in the hipster dofous hangouts Frankie’s 457 and Prime Meats. They are your basic Madison protestors.

Just pass them by. Nothing worth seeing there. They are just worthless flotsam soon to be swept away

I wonder if anybody had a sign declaring "I Can See 1984 From Here".

Maybe the "1840" guy is calling on Obama not to run for reelection. Sayeth the Wiki:

In March 1840, Harrison pledged to serve only one term as President if elected, a pledge which reflected popular support for a Constitutional limit to Presidential terms among many in the Whig Party.

I cannot believe how foolish all of these fools look in the many pictures you have posted, Is this for real??? This is our opposition?
