@Original Mike, I was surprised when I went to the Farmers' Market on Saturday how nice the grass looked. It's at its worst nearest State Street. But even there it doesn't look bad for early Spring.
The corporate media lets you see the ugly protesters and union plebes.
You don't see the financiers and corporate yids in their skyscrapers or silicon valley chateaus, humping cheap ho du jour or spinning around in porsches.

AJ Lynch said... "Wonder where this kid buys his sneakers and clothes? Home-made perhaps but looks corporate to me."
My reaction, also.
If the expressed anti-corporation sentiment is not exactly disingenuous, it's at least a bit misguided. It's almost as if Nike, Adidas, Apple, Amazon, Gap, J Crew, Abercrombie and the other fab outfitters and suppliers of the "proletariat" have been given some kind of dispensation.
Hoosier, Will you also call for an investigation when the prices fall out of sight?
I do not pretend to know how it works (and I am beginning to think no one knows), but as far as I can see "The Oil Companies" get to ride with the prices just as we do, except that the effect on them is inverse to ours.
"Will you also call for an investigation when the prices fall out of sight?"
Of course not. As consumers we can and should pursue our interests, it is in our interests to have lower gas prices for all kinds of reasons, and it is the broader interest because the money that goes into gas would otherwise go some other direction
Not that this is even likely to ever happen again for about 100 years, but if gas prices do bottom out you can absolutely bet that the oil companies will push for some kind of investigation and response, because that is in their interest. So checks and balances are made in the context of competing interests.
Right now, the consumer is getting hammered in every direction because it sure does seem that some corporations and industries are allowed to abuse the system while the government ignores or fosters their abuse. Like with banks.
I was listening to excerpts from Obama's Facebook online meeting/Q+A. He's in campaign mode. It got me thinking what will be his key messages (I assume Hope and Change aren't going to do it anymore.)
What I came up with is: -Healthcare Its gonna work -I'm not beholden to those radical Tea Partiers like my opponent (the 2012 version of "I'm not Bush") -The economy is moving up (of course, the critical elelment there is what the economy will be in 2012) -Win the Future
In short, I can't imagine a strong message for his campaign.
Papa Johns is a "meh" pizza anyways. Their crust is too sweet.
Just had some for the first time, thanks to the kerfluffle. Not my style of pizza, but I think my kids would like it so I'll take them to the one in Oceanside soon.
Special thanks to wonkette for "triggering" my curiousity.
I plan to enroll at the University this fall and I'd never actually been on the campus, just driven around the edges of it. It's beautiful. I don't know if they just did new construction or if I'm confusing UNM with some other university, but they've got theaters and bowling alleys, etc., and all sorts of impressive facilities. Not to mention awesome landscaping. I don't think there is any more impressive gardening than at universities.
And it's all sort of conflicting. On the one hand it's excessively pleasant. On the other hand I'm thinking of how much everything costs and who ultimately pays for it.
In California I liked Round Table Pizza. In Albuquerque there is a chain called Dion's that is good. I like the artichoke and pine nut one the best, but in the category of regular red-sauce and traditional toppings they're pretty good, too. Everything-with-green-chili is very good.
But mostly we get take-and-bake from Papa Murphy's.

Best thing about Waterloo Station is the EuroStar to Paris. Not cheap but then again nothing in either London or Paris is ever cheap. But it is lovely to have a nice english breakfeast and take the train to Paris for a very leaisurly late afternon lunch and arrive back in London for a night out on the town.
Happy 85th Birthday Queen Elizabeth! It's her real birthday today, but they celebrate "The Queen's Birthday" in June. One year it was on my birthday.
And RIP Elisabeth Sladen (1948-2011) known to fans of Dr. Who as Sarah Jane Smith, companion to both Jon Pertwee's Doctor and Tom Baker's Doctor and star of her own series "The Sarah Jane Adventures" for the past four years. They did one season of that one here on Syfy or BBCA.
Better still lets move the Arabs out of the US and Zion to Arabia. And while we are still in Iraq lets move the Arabs out of Kurdistan as well.
You know what cracked me up about this Hannity Muslim caller? That he had the audacity (oft-heard) to suggest the State of Israel exists because Christians used the Bible as justification for putting them there.
Because these idiots have never heard that Israel is where Hebrews come from.
Also note that Helen Thomas shares the view that Jews should go back to where they belong -- Germany, Poland, New York.
Synova- I will be going to Atlas this weekend. My business partner saw the movie and he recommends it.
I guess no one read my little mini-review on one of the Althouse threads. I've been waiting for Ann to mention it in a post, but I don't think she'll see the movie or write it up.
Go see it at 8-9 PM, in as full a possible a theatre. It really will make all the difference, trust me.
And it's great. Not GREAT, great. But there's a lot to recommend it. The Dagny Taggart-Henry Rearden chemistry is out of sight.
"And RIP Elisabeth Sladen (1948-2011) known to fans of Dr. Who as Sarah Jane Smith, companion to both Jon Pertwee's Doctor and Tom Baker's Doctor and star of her own series "The Sarah Jane Adventures" for the past four years. They did one season of that one here on Syfy or BBCA."
Oh my. I wonder if my kids know.
In a way it's sort of funny; the major stars who passed so recently they wouldn't have known or cared about, but they'll probably care about losing Elisabeth Sladen.
They were really effected when the Sham-Wow guy passed... at the same time as Michael (who?) Jackson.
If you think oil companies make easy money, why don't you invest in oil company stock? I did about 20 years ago. You can start with a couple hundred dollars and $50 a month in a dividend reinvestment program (DRIP). I feel good every time I fill up, no matter how much it costs. I have some of both Exxon Mobil and Chevron Texaco. Right now any commodities are a good bet.
-I'm not beholden to those radical Tea Partiers like my opponent (the 2012 version of "I'm not Bush")
It's interesting to see just how much influence the Tea Party will have in 2012.
The problem with the Tea Party, for Obama and his ilk anyway, is that it is an amorphous, leaderless group. Criticism becomes shadow boxing. The Left were flailing like flounder until they went after the Koch Bros' billionaires meeting, but to most Americans, that still sounds like Glenn Beck's Soros obsession -- weak, paranoid, bizarre.
Happy 85th Birthday Queen Elizabeth! It's her real birthday today,
I remember when my grandmother used to send the Queen a wire of congratulations on her birthday. Today, I tweeted my good wishes (@BritishMonarchy). Somehow, the former seems more meaningful, and permanent. Let me explain. Maybe one day, after the Queen's time, when there'll be an expo showing all the telegrammes received by the Queen in her lifetime. You can't do that with tweets, Kimsch.
Kimsch, I don't see Ann as a Madam. Synova maybe, or DBQ possibly. Freeman is too fertile; she must be protected. Possibly Beth, who is used to cathouses populating New Orleans. Me, I'm bad with money, and wouldn't know how to deal with crabs, so I'm out.
I don't see Ann as Madame either, but I do not doubt her ability to keep customers and employees in line and to run her business like a well oiled machine should she be so inclined.
If you did a survey of the group in attendance, what would you guess would be the unemployment rate?
Besides, where's the harm?
Madison is a bastion for the democraps. I see more people, locally, at the malls. And, when I don't? I know business stinks.
Many moons ago people used to congregate to watch movies. Even if they entered one-at-time. Going to a movie (at matinee prices), took care of people who were going stir crazy at home.
In psychiatry, the term neologism is used to describe the use of words that only have meaning to the person who uses them, independent of their common meaning.[2] This is considered normal in children, but a symptom of thought disorder (indicative of a psychotic mental illness, such as schizophrenia) in adults.[3] People with autism also may create neologisms.[4] In addition, use of neologisms may be related to aphasia acquired after brain damage resulting from a stroke or head injury.
You know it just occurred to me with that protesters sign. Notice how wide it is, as if the intention was to include long words or a longer phrase. Is this an example of not not planning ahead
"Bordello" or "Bagnio" will also work, a tad more elegant. "Den of Iniquity" or "House of Assignation" for the verbose.
Jeez, what the hell is wrong with "cathouse"?
Oh, no, mum. This is no roadside dive. You want people to think Harry Reid slept here?
This is a parlor house. Think Charles and Belle Cora.

Call Ann Madame because she is a married lady, but, yes, I can see the good Professor in a fitted, off-the-shoulder, black velvet something, wearing a picture hat and some very expensive jewelry (gifts of admirers) explaining the delights in store ("Let's take a closer look at those breasts").
PS I see what you mean about DBQ (no offense, ma'am), but I think you would make a splendid countess. It's all about display and your charm and saucy worldliness would make you an excellent inducement to step through the front door.
In any case, you call a doctor to deal with the crabs and let your accountant having grazing rights on the place

LMAO.
And, you, a... translator?
Needless to say, there's a difference between madam and Madame, but a woman can be both.
PS If I see Ann in black, you would be in your heliotrope boa (matching evening gloves and hose, naturally) with a glass of champagne in your dainty hand.

London Times, 1891: On the death of the showman P.T. Barnum:
"His name is a proverb already, and will continue to be a proverb until mankind has ceased to find pleasure in the comedy of a harmless deceiver and the willingly deceived."
well shit. Dealt the fucking Jew card. Hang on to it - 'cause these are the chosen ones. Discard - as they are oppressors to the righteous hard working Palestine peoples. Hold - because when led correctly, they act in self interest. Discard - because the liberal American Jews are not in alignment with any notions of self preservation.

Given anti-pagan prejudice in this country, seems like he should celebrate corporations daring enough to embrace religious viewpoint diversity.
Also, squirrel!
I think he meant "corpse", to show solidarity with the union and all.
Yeah. That's it.
Have you ever considered "brothel"? I've always liked the way that word feels in the mouth.
Damn, beat me to it.
Also, squirrel!
SooooOO cute. Does he a have a booboo on his little lip?
(Hey XWL!)
Well I for one am pleased that the Obama Administration is launching an investigation of the oil companies for price gouging at the pump.

Sometimes the term isn't "café" -- you'll also see teahouse, restaurant, tavern, hotel, etc. etc.
How about halfway house
for those threads dominated by AlphaLib, garage or Ritmo.
Just sayin.
Trooper can get one called the At the Giant's stadium concession stand.
The Milwaukee news paper just editorialized against Kloppenburg's free re-count Theater.
Hoosier,
Will you also call for an investigation when the prices fall out of sight?
I do not pretend to know how it works (and I am beginning to think no one knows), but as far as I can see "The Oil Companies" get to ride with the prices just as we do, except that the effect on them is inverse to ours.
John J:
Agreed. But we have to give him credit for at least one home-made thing - his sign.

Depends on whose mouth.
"Bordello" or "Bagnio" will also work, a tad more elegant. "Den of Iniquity" or "House of Assignation" for the verbose.
Unions are greedy corporations only interested in money. You can tell by the way they act.
What I came up with is:
-Healthcare Its gonna work
-I'm not beholden to those radical Tea Partiers like my opponent (the 2012 version of "I'm not Bush")
-The economy is moving up (of course, the critical elelment there is what the economy will be in 2012)
-Win the Future
In short, I can't imagine a strong message for his campaign.
(I know "Its morning in America" won't work.)
That's "Corp" propaganda. No dot, no "s". If it had an "s" the brilliant president of our 57 states would pronounce it "corpse".
My husband just called and his presentation at Ernst and Young at Waterloo was a huge success.
$35.00 for a day pass to ride the train. WOW.
Did you know Waterloo is near Piccadily Circus and Elephants and Caves. Yea.
My husband just called and his presentation at Ernst and Young at Waterloo was a huge success.
So, your husband is Wellington?
Isn't Waterloo where that reporter for the Guardian got assassinated a couple years back? I think they were really trying to shoot Matt Damon though.
Wait, am I misremembering?
Win the Future
Somehow, WTF makes an appropriate campaign theme for Obama.
etc. etc.
...Automat, Pushcart, Kiosk, Cat House and Honeywagon.
Elephants and Castle...sorry my bad.
My husband is staying in Slough.
He is a British Indian.
Papa Johns is okay pizza. In Madison, I prefer Glass Nickel, or Roman Candle, or Lombardinos or Ians.
12:30. Yr really a stupid fuck, Edu, like the rest of the dyslexic neo-Nixonians and birthers at A-house.
MM: Our favorite family pizza place out here is called Killer Pizza From Mars. They have Fat Tire and a local ale on tap too.
J, did you used to post at rec.arts.sclerotica back in the day? You sure have a hard-hearted way of blocking traffic.
4:27, don't care for anyone crimping yr style, eh Chicke the hymie panderer
Yr not supposed to be online per State Bar of CA, if at work (and when yr JD from ACME's pulled, won't matter).
No worries J, I'm not a JD!
BTW, why would you threaten me, you miserable little twerp?
"BTW, I'm digging the new Union South."
J said, "yr heroes Kissinger and Hillaryberg were on TeeVee."
Hillaryberg? Really? Hillaryberg? How did we slide so smoothly from a sign about corporate propaganda (or not) to anti-Semitism? Sheesh!

Better still lets move the Arabs out of the US and Zion to Arabia. And while we are still in Iraq lets move the Arabs out of Kurdistan as well.
OT but I read the Obama NLRB is fighting Boeing's expansion in S. Carolina. WTF? How many jobs is this delaying? They are too smart for their own good.
We have become such food elitists. I remember when there was no such thing as a bad pizza.

The corporate media lets you see the ugly protesters and union plebes.
You don't see the financiers and corporate yids in their skyscrapers or silicon valley chateaus, humping cheap ho du jour or spinning around in porsches.

Do you have the same problem with sand niggers acting in the same way? Or is it just with yids?
I thought that the probable plan of Boeing in SC was to get out from under the union thumb.
Strengthening unions is more important than jobs, don't you know.
In any case... the Obama administration is causing hold ups for Boeing in South Carolina?
Oh, and is anyone planning on going to the movie Atlas Shrugged?
@Original Mike, I was surprised when I went to the Farmers' Market on Saturday how nice the grass looked.
Bullshit is wonderful for grass and there has been a lot of it in the air since February.
Synova:
I will put Atlas Shrugged on the Blockbuster queque. Just got Waiting For Superman today and am eager to watch that movie.

Papa John's thin crust pizza is crisp like a cracker. Love it.
Ensign resigns as of Friday (tomorrow?)...
Synova- I will be going to Atlas this weekend. My business partner saw the movie and he recommends it.
I read the book over 30 years ago, so it should be fresh for me.

It's incomprehensible to me.

Did you know Waterloo is near Piccadily Circus and Elephants and Caves.
LOL! I know you already corrected yourself, but this is HILARIOUS. Elephants and Caves. Heeee!

"I guess no one read my little mini-review"
Oh I remember! It was about you turning lesbian.
Maybe I missed the main point of the review.
(Perhaps someone who knows better could say if I should have used "affected" instead of "effected" in that sentence.)
Synova, she died on Tuesday. I received an email from Tor books that had this link to the story. Only 63.

And I have class enough not to make fun of people's disabilities - including yours.

Bush was a much more effective counterfoil.
Maybe I missed the main point of the review.
Dagny Taggart is my girlfriend.

No downside.
neo-Nixonians looks like a neologism
In psychiatry, the term neologism is used to describe the use of words that only have meaning to the person who uses them, independent of their common meaning.[2] This is considered normal in children, but a symptom of thought disorder (indicative of a psychotic mental illness, such as schizophrenia) in adults.[3] People with autism also may create neologisms.[4] In addition, use of neologisms may be related to aphasia acquired after brain damage resulting from a stroke or head injury.
