"She was the most erotic thing I’d ever seen. She was fair skinned and golden haired, full-blood Italian. The air was suddenly filled with banana leaves."

"We started talking and my head started to spin. Cupid’s arrow had whistled past my ears before, but this time it hit me in the heart and the weight of it dragged me overboard."

Suze Rotolo has died.

Don't worry, Bob. When you're sad and when you're lonely And you haven't got a friend Just remember that death is not the end

Bob has probably gone into mourning. That kind of love never goes away.

Hmmm...

Do I see a certain resemblance, minus eyeglasses, to an iconic photograph of a crusading Wisconsin blogger?

PS Banana leaves?

The final, idiot sentence of the obit:

She appeared as an interview subject in “No Direction Home,” Martin Scorsese’s 2005 documentary about Mr. Dylan, and wrote “A Freewheelin’ Time” in large part to tell her side of the Dylan story and to portray herself as more complicated than a muse.

There is something more complicated than a muse?

The fuckheaded stupidity of feminist cant is mind boggling!

Oh, a friend of mine coined an acronym to describe the super duper new woman:

BIWOT: Bold Independent Woman of Today!

ed, I think Althouse's 60s-era photos are much, much cuter than this Suze Rotolo.

And time has been much kinder to Althouse than it was Ms. Rotolo.

I’m walkin’ down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I’m bound, I can’t tell
But goodbye’s too good a word, gal
So I’ll just say fare thee well

Now, I don't have anything against Ms. Rotolo, but she was a lousy pretender as an artist.

Not surprising that she was a commie.

Her work was the kind of crummy, political stuff that will get you public grants and stipends at places like The New School.

To say that she was demeaned by being a muse to Dylan is stupid beyond belief. It was, as far as I know, the only interesting thing that she ever did in her life.

She would have done better to skip the commie artist thing and try to hang onto Dylan.

And, I'll have to reiterate... I can barely stand to listen to Dylan, but he is undoubtedly one of the best songwriters.

One thing I do admire about Dylan (and I live in Woodstock so I know what he went through) is that he told the commie folksinger brigade to go fuck itself.

Dylan wanted to be a rock and roll star and make a lot of money. He had absolutely no fucking interest in being a propagandist for "the movement" and he told the commies so.

Good for him.

Banana leaves must refer to the excellent smell of dried banana flakes that used to go in hot cerial as a kid; unavailable today.

It came in metal cans as a coarse powder.

You can't say banana flakes were in the air, though. Hence the metonymy.

If Pamela Des Barres were awake she would say that is sexist.

And she would be spitting up cum.

Luckily for Dylan, New York's age of consent is only 17.

I would tend to agree, sir. Keep in mind I only noted a certain resemblance.

I just saw the hair, the pout, and smiled a bit.

Duke Snider, the great center fielder and slugger for the Brooklyn/LA Dodgers died today.

A lot of people will argue that Blowin' in the Wind was the best song on the Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, but I'd take Hard Rain over any of the tracks any day of the week.

"Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin'
But I'll know my songs well before I start singin'
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall."

Some people simply do not look as good in photos as they do in person. That might explain the difference between Dylan's description and Suze's photos. Looking at the wedding photos of a friend's daughter -- stunning in real life -- we were surprised at how average she looked in the pictures.

Dude you shouldn't be staring at photo's of your friends daughter. That's creepy.

My favorite player on the old Dodgers. My Dad took me to Ebbetts Field several times and one of them was Camera Day. He called Duke over and we talked for about five minutes (these days it would cost a couple grand). One of my great memories and he was a nice guy.

Sad to hear it.

Troop: if pictures of what you knew was a beautiful girl made her look like Richard Gere, you would notice it too.

Trooper York said...

Wait a minute. Are we talking gerbils here?

Trooper York said...

Because we have to fear the Gerbil.

And, of course, the amusing bit (given the feminist twaddle in the obit) is that Rotolo will never be remembered for anything except sleeping with Dylan and appearing as a stand-in on one of his albums.

Bob has probably gone into mourning. That kind of love never goes away.

And truer words were never spoken.

Both a blessing and a curse, nothing to hold it together... except love. Afterward life is never the same. From a blessing, a curse. Too young to know that life is already half over. When you part ways.

Can I say something? Bob Dylan just absolutely bores me silly. I'd rather listen to paint drying.

For me he's like the Eagles. The first couple albums were OK, interesting, and the rest were boring.

I too mourn the passing of Duke Snider. Bummer that he had to spend his professional life being compared to Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays. The Dodger fans back then were all convinced that he was, in fact, the best center fielder of the three. As if. It's amazing how bias can blind people to certain elementary truths. Many Dodger fans in later life went on to vote for Obama...I think he made more money selling his autograph than he ever made playing baseball. He was discriminated against by time. In our era, his talents would have been worth tens of millions of dollars. I suppose that rankled and was probably part of the tax evasion motivation.....Well,for all that, he was a good man and lived an enviable life.

edutcher -- Remember this? Junior Gilliam gets on first by hook or by crook. On a classic hit and run play Pee Wee Reese hits a grounder behind Gilliam into the gap between first and second and Gilliam ends up on third. Men on first and third and none out DUKE SNIDER hits a towering fly ball off the right field wall, Gilliam scores Reese scores SNIDER on second still none out as Campy advances to the plate.

How many times did I see that happen? Many many times. May you spend eternity patrolling heaven's sunny center field DUKE OF FLATBUSH.
