Brainstorming signs for the "Restore Sanity" rally: "I finally thought of a sign 'Feed Your Head' a la: When logic and proportion has fallen sloppy dead..."

"... And the white knight is talking backwards and the Red Queen's 'Off with her head' Remember what the doormouse said 'Feed your head, feed your head:."

That's just one person over at the "Rally to Restore Sanity" Facebook page. I don't know how much of a trend it reflects. But there's something a bit strange and unpredictable about drawing out the people who are supposed to be the sane ones. Who are the people who get into the idea that they are sane and other people are crazy? It will be interesting to see what kinds of signs these characters come up with. "Feed Your Head" indeed.

Reminds me of the time I went to a John Kerry rally (in Madison) and photographed this sign:

Speaking of trippy, the "Sanity" Facebook page keeps flashing the numbers back and forth. See the updates on yesterday's Sanity post.

Nothing says Restore Sanity like a man with a clown show.

I'm still hoping against hope that this is Stewart and Co's ultimate masterpiece of satire and irony.

The Soviets were pretty efficient in rounding up crazy people back in the day. I mean you had to be nuts to be a dissident in the worker's paradise.

This is going to be excellent. The real Woodstock II fer shure.

And as Crack joyfully informed us, Oprah will be there. lol

Over in Italy, La Repubblica has translated the event as "we are restoring the mental health of America."

What would NPR make of that?

I look forward to pictures of trash heaps left on the Mall.

I would have thought that protesting against unprecedented federal spending and generational bankruptcy would be a textbook definition of restoring sanity.

The internet insiders tell us that Restore S.Anity is a secret encoded sign by Roger Ailes to promote a certain Fox News personality. Also John Stewart is secretly only a comedian.People can be so gullible these days unless they read Blogs.

In addition, I look forward to seeing the rich diversity of skin color at the rally.

I mean if it ends up being a whole bunch of angry young white kids then it will have no legitimacy.

I call it Viacom's Obama rally.

Any questionable signs will surely be plants.

Tea Party plants I mean. But I repeat myself.

Plants can't vote. Good grief. That moron does realize that his "cardboard" sign came from a tree, right?

For some reason I found this pretty good as a poster for the rally.

Wait--you mean there's some other explanation?

Scott M said...

Wait--you mean there's some other explanation?

We'll know for sure if they show constant Loony Tunes and Three Stooges shorts combined with earnest calls for Venusian and Martian immigrant rights.

This affair will have no effect, other than, perhaps for comic relief. Tuesday approaches.

BTW, that's dormouse. The name derives from the Latin dormire, to sleep.

a whole bunch of angry young white kids

I think there will be a whole bunch of stoned young white kids as well. Plus all the ones bussed in on someone else's dime.

In otherwords an event largely funded indirectly by parents, taxpayers and consumers of products advertised on certain programs. People who won't be there.

It sounds like they're trying for the same liberals - there won't be drugs and nudity and they don't like people who draw Hitler mustaches on people who aren't hitler. So I guess this will draw about ten people.
And I guess they are implying that liberals are insane with their restore sanity message because who else is drawing Hitler mustaches on leaders (ok there was that one guy at the tea party rally, but he was probably a Lydon Larouche supporter) and which group always has crazy people running around in costumes high on various drugs? The tea partiers?

You figure the ones who know they're crazy are probably more sane than the ones who are sure they're sane.

Then, too, the same people who figure they're smarter and more compassionate and more tolerant than everyone else also figure they're saner than everyone else.

Hmmm...

Looks like a replay of The Zero's free food and music fest in Deutschland combined with the cream pie fight in "The Great Race".

Clearly the democrats have become the party of comedians--Franken, Clobert, Stewart--what I dont understand from the standpoint of tactics, is why this dumb affair comes on the last weekend of campaigning--doesnt seem to serve any of the democrats well. This apears to be a gift to the republicans. Oh well--they are comedians. yes they can.

We are the blue pills America has been waiting for.

Back when I was listening to Jefferson Airplane I heard the lyrics as "logic and proportion have fallen *softly* dead" and "the Red Queen's on her head." Did I hear them wrong, or is the quote scrambled.

And as Hoosier Daddy points out, the Soviets were pretty good at rounding up "crazy" dissidents. They even had a catch-all diagnosis: "sluggish schizophrenia." The "sluggish" part meant that there were no actual symptoms - but the authorities knew they were crazy anyway.

"One on the list (at the rally) is Don Novello, who played Father Guido Sarducci years ago on “Saturday Night Live.” He is expected to offer an opening comic benediction"

But don't you dare put up a Mohammad caricature!

Henry said...

The word "restore" would seem to put the rallyists in an awkward position. The election hasn't happened yet, so when was sanity lost?

"Restore Sanity. Vote for Eisenhower."

I kid. We know that sanity was lost when Beck had his rally on the mall. The place has been all crazy since then. Stewart goes to calm the trampled grass.

This is too long, but I like it:

I haven’t left my house in days.
I watch the newschannels incessantly.
All the news stories are about the election;
all the commercials are about Viagra and Cialis.

Election, erection, election, erection – either way we’re screwed.

The middle class, middle aged squares are running rampant! We wise hipster douch bags need to get out there and rally to restore order!

dbp said...

But it is okay, because we will be "restoring order" ironically.

I love how self important all the twits on the Rally Facebook page are.
What a bunch of tools.

how about that classic picture of the projected deficit and the phrase "restore fiscal sanity."

If it involved Tea Partiers, they'd be sure it was the beginning of a sinister mind control campaign to turn all those sane people into bitter clingers

Where's my Neuralizer??

Comic benediction, how hopelessly Bright.

PS Sarducci is so 80s, I can only presume their idea of sanity would be a return to Reagan.

PB&J in 5, 4, 3...

I don't know if I, or anyone, can do better than Meade's 11:08, but
a literary sign might read:

"Restrain reckless middle age"

(From W. B. Yeats:

On Hearing that the Students of our New University have joined the Agitation Against Immoral Literature

Where, where but here have Pride and Truth,
That long to give themselves for wage,
To shake their wicked sides at youth,
Restraining reckless middle age?
)

A.W. said...

btw, on the poster... plants can't vote so we must.

Well, presumably this is a pro-pot poster. But, um, are they trying to say that marijuana wants the use of marijuana legalized?

i mean if a MJ plant had a will of its own, would it really want to be chopped up and burned alive, to help a human get his rocks off?

ah, pothead logic.

A pro-Obama sign could be: "Heed Your Fed"

Maybe this is Obama's master stroke to ensure the Democrats don't retain either house, so he can proceed a la Clinton.

If anyone sees a demonic Uncle Sam in any photos or videos give me a heads up as I know the kid.

Although at the risk of disappointing the Dems (who apparently believe that their last, best hope is politically indifferent teenage druggies) I'm pretty sure he doesn't plan to vote.

The schedule for this event seems both fluid and secretive. While it's a long shot, I have to wonder if they're trying to schedule around a surprise visit by President Obama. Or at least a surprise television appearance.
