"With Paterson, the Simple Facts Can Get Complicated."

Okay, who wrote that NYT headline? I read it, and my brain plays (the greatest single of all time) The Who's "Substitute":
But I'm a substitute for another guy
I look pretty tall but my heels are high
The simple things you see are all complicated...
But they couldn't write "With Paterson, the simple things you see are all complicated"... because Governor Paterson is blind.

But they couldn't write "With Paterson, the simple things you see are all complicated"... because Governor Paterson is blind.

But note that a similar headline would work for Obama because he looks all black but his mom was white.

It's worse than just whether it's intentionally lying.

Patterson might have been deliberately lying.

Or lying on purpose.

Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.

Oh - not Patterson. I was referring to the New York Times' standard practice.

Live by PC, blow the headline by PC.

Or something like that.

The Governor is in a lot of trouble because of the Yankee ticket situation where he had his aides glom some free tickets for him.

The aides are not going to take the rap because Patterson will not be running again and they have no protection. So it is going to get messy for good old Dave.

'take the rap'?

Was that some sort of racist jab?

અજ્ઞાત કહ્યું...

They changed the headline. Now it says, "With Paterson, the Simple Facts Can Get Complicated"

Thank you, Althouse, for working The WHO into a blog post. . .

Kieth Moon's drumming on Substitute is some of his best. Entwistle isn't bad on it either.

Patterson has not taken orders from some one.It has the look of a political hit on the way to the forum.

Does anyone here besides me think Obama threw Caroline Kennedy under the bus? I think he had the clout to persuade Paterson to appoint her, he just didn't want to expend political capital, and take the risk of getting his hands dirty. To the victor go the spoils, and Caroline had really went to bat for him.

અજ્ઞાત કહ્યું...

With all that's going wrong in this country, we're worrying about Yankee's tickets.

This does look like a hit. Someone wants Patterson gone. He gives indications of having a mind of his own and possibly a backbone.

Too bad. He's one of the few Democrats I'd consider voting for.

From four years ago, an earlier post referencing "Substitute" on the Althouse blog...

Earlier this month, I finally tracked down an mp3 of the b-side: "Waltz For A Pig", an instrumental. A long-lost Who instrumental? No. Despite being usually credited to "The Who Orchestra", it was evidently just something recorded by the Graham Bond Organisation. According to one website, the tune was written by Ginger Baker, under the pseudonym "Harry Butcher" if I'm interpreting some tiny pixels I found correctly.

But that's all music industry politics. Honest music industry executives may be as rare as honest politicians, but that would be another post or seven...

I guess I messed up the link above...

Substitute?
