At the Special Touch Café...
... you can get tattoos, fireworks, and more. We didn't get any fireworks or tattoos. Not today, anyway. We did get some dinner at Culvers, though.

Is fried food still a big Midwestern thing? It's here in California, but it's sure pushed a lot less. A friend who franchises 6 McDonalds in Orange County said fry sales are down considerably from 3 years ago.
Now I'm hungry.
Careful if you have your gall bladder out. Fried food (and possibly booze) will never be your friend again.
(It isn't now unless you only see him about once a week)
PS The Blonde's philosophy is that God gives you a perfectly good body, so why mark it up with a tattoo?
Considering all the weird tattoos she's seen, and in the weirdest places (anatomically), she has a point.
Mmmmm. Butter burgers!
(1) All the Tattoo and Fireworks shop needs is a liquor store nearby and you're all set.
(2) Re: the beshorted man next to the car ...aren't those pants pulled down awful low? Ack.
(3) You need Culvers after all that paddlin'. They keep those places way too cold for me though, summer and winter.
(4) Is reader_iam right? Is it Happy Anniversary time? Woot!
Add a gun shop, and it will truly be heaven!
Ummmm - now I guess I have to have a Butter Burger for lunch - we love Culver's in Omaha - I haven't been brave enough to try the fried cheese curds yet - I'm afraid they'd be too good and then I'd have to get them every time I went there.
Good to see you're eating more than 3 olives and a slice of bread so thin it's only got one side this time.
Blogging will be lite today as Meadhouse is on the road.
I don't eat the pickle either.
Never miss an opportunity to get quality fireworks!
For great photos, get Meade to swing one of those giant sparklers at night and then go to town without a flash. Meade can make shapes, write his name, do a heart, etc. Lots of fun.
I kinda of figure the same Trooper.
Does anybody want to pretend to be Althouse..
We got the house to ourselves ;)
Mmm...fried cheese curds. Reliable access to Culver's curds and shakes (try hot fudge & mint, a.k.a. the Grasshopper) would be the fast track to an early heart attack for me. Thankfully there are none in the Chicago city limits.
Since it's an open thread, a quick update on the trumpet vine eradication effort. Thanks to those who made suggestions for glyphosate. I had been avoiding it to save other plants in the bed, but painting it on the leaves has worked well to kill the vine and the ground cover is holding up.
Ob boy... fried food, tatoos and things that explode. I see that someone had to good sense to remove the pickle slice, to avoid interference with the basic fat/protein experience of lunch at Culver's.
Yeah, Culver's came to Phoenix a couple of years ago.
Not impressed.
I'll still go for In and Out.

The eyeball is the New Frontier of tattooing.

I am not only hungry but jealous.
I wish we had a Culvers near me.
On the other hand, it is probably a good thing we don't or I would be even more overweight.
The frozen custard is the greatest!!!
John Henry
WV: "really" as in "the frozen custard is REALLY the greatest. I guess I didn't make the point emphatically enough.
A Culver's was put in near my house. Indeed, it's the closest fast food restaurant to my house, which is saying something according to this. Excluding the occasional frozen yogurt trip, we ate there exactly once in the year it has been open.
Still we heard for 2 years before it opened about it coming. How great it would be went it arrived. And still read and hear, all by word of mouth not paid advertisement, that it is great. What is great about it? It doesn't seem any different than a DQ.
I am a big fan of Culver's (and Kopp's, Leon's and Gilles' in Milwaukee), but locally, Michael's FC has better frozen custard and better fried cheese curds. Just sayin'.

One of my more surreal purchasing experiences was in a Super Wal-Mart, around 1:30 in the morning. My cart had beer, diapers, and ammo.
"My cart had beer, diapers, and ammo."
"Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff."
Someone had to say it!
Someone had to check out the low beshorted man and the low pants too.
Turns out, it was only a shadow.
Which means Pogo gets the point for making me look.
Ain't that America, for you and me,
Ain't that America, it's something to see baby,
Ain't that America, the home of the free ...
Whoa - now that burger looks good!
Never heard of Culver's:
Was it good?

We just got a Culver's last year and I've been a couple times. The fast food part is meh, but I will give them props for their customer service. On the other hand, it had BETTER be good because they are somewhat expensive.
Those cheese curds have had me thinking about them all day. So, as I'll be helping my mom deal with her dogs while she preps for tomorrow's colonoscopy,I'll be getting a avocado-bacon-bleu salad sans chicken and a nice order of fried cheese curds for my dinner tonight. MMMMmmmm.

"Was it good?"
It was the best fast-food cheeseburger I've ever had, by a wide margin. Kind of crisp on the outside. Is it actually fried in butter? I loved it! The onion rings and fried cheese curds were also very good.
You order at the counter like at McDonalds, but they bring your food to your table, which is nice.
We only ever eat fried fast-food when we're on the road. (Because vacation calories don't count.) We always stop at Culver's or Steak-n-Shake. I love Culver's onion rings.
