Drudge. Smoking Gun:
In a bizarre statement to police, the Oregon woman who claims that Al Gore fondled and groped her during a massage session described the former Vice President as a giggling "crazed sex poodle" who gave a "come hither" look before pouncing on her in a Portland hotel suite. In a taped January 2009 interview with cops, the 54-year-old woman, a licensed masseuse... detailed her alleged October 2006 encounter with Gore at the Hotel Lucia.... It is unclear why, two years later, she approached Portland police and sought to memorialize her allegations against Gore, who she portrayed as a tipsy, handsy predator who forced her to drink Grand Marnier, pinned her to a bed, and forcibly French kissed her. The woman's statement--which could be mistaken for R-rated Vice Presidential fan fiction--describes Gore as a man with a "violent temper as well as extremely dictatorial commanding attitude besides his Mr. Smiley Global Warming concern persona." After fleeing Gore's suite, the woman returned home to discover, a la Lewinsky, "stains on the front of my black slacks." Suspecting that the stains were Gore bodily fluids, the woman made sure not to clean them.

Roger J -- Actually, I think many Dems are using this interval to take a deep breath and rejoice at the distraction because the news media doesn't notice that:
1. ... the democrats who control both houses of congress do not intend to pass a budget.
I heard. What's up with that? How can they write checks?
2. ... no one is really concerned that the gulf coast is being trashed while petty fiefdoms fight over who can do what to whom --
I care. But not so much about who spilt the oil. The Groundhog Day playing of the drama of the dead birds and the Evil BP is old and stupid.
After someone spills the milk, you don't spend the next 60 minutes discussing whose fault it was.
YOU CLEAN IT UP.
22 offers from 17 countries and the Obama administration didn't give a damn.
The Gulf needed to be gridded and the various countries needed to be given sections that they could put their ships or send their boom, equipment and expertise to and clean it up.
This administration does not have a clue about a stitch in time ...
They know smoke and mirrors and backroom deals.
Come, November, quickly.
And keep your grubby green hands off the oil industry. Put a windmill on top of your own house.
@ Revenant... The transcript was transcribed from speech given at an in person, live interview. The words in writing are easier to analyze for communication than a dramatic performance. Truthful people struggle with words and that shows here. Great story tellers are usually smooth and flow with the dramatic points they are making, like Joran VanDerSloot and Rielle Hunter do. We will probably hear more from this victim as The Enquirer publishes more of her remembrances of stupid, spoiled Al. Tipper needs a mature man that respects himself.
"Tipper needs a mature man that respects himself."
Sorry. W is spoken for.
But I hear Larry David is on the market.
@ Freeman But is Gore really stupid enough to make exactly the same mistake as Clinton?
Freeman, you disappoint me girl.
If Al Gore were changing his lifestyle to stop global warming, he wouldn't be sore from all the air travel and thus wouldn't need massages in hotel rooms where what really went on between he and the masseuse ends up being a he said/she said.
It's probably not a good idea for high profile public figures to be having private massages in their hotel room, but I dunno....
Browsing the statement she made to the police, I found myself being able to picture it happening as she said, and believing her. She's very detailed!
I guess it's a little odd she didn't get out of there sooner, since he was acting drunk and creepy from the get-go. But then again, I can see how she'd be scared of it harming her career, and of being scared of what the Secret Service and whatnot would do to her. I recently re-watched the movie Absolute Power, where the prez rapes and kills a woman and the Secret Service and political aides go into full cover up mode. :o Yeah, I know it's fiction, but still I can see how frightened a person would be of someone with such massive power.
I guess we'll have to wait and see if there are masseuse eruptions that show a pattern of behavior. Not that the patterns of behavior ever convinced Democrats that Bill Clinton was guilty. But, yeah, if there are other accusers, that will probably convince me. But I already think he did some inappropriate shit in that hotel room, I just don't think there's enough evidence yet.
@ ALP This subject has inspired the greatest number of fabulous one-liners and sarcastic quips that I can recall on an Althouse discussion.
My husband sometimes wonders out loud (and continually to himself, I'm sure) why I read Althouse.
I have illustrated the answer a number of times recently with guffaw provoking quotes from the comments ...
If she is not a gold digger, why would she accept so much money from the Enquirer? Just a question.
I thought that part of being a gold digger was misrepresentation. For example, a woman who pretends to love a rich man in order gain access to his money through marriage would be a gold digger, whereas a woman who was actually in love with a rich man and so gained access to his money through marriage would not be a gold digger.
If this woman is lying, she's a gold digger. If not, she's not.
@DBQ
I bet he has damp palms and rubbery fingers.
eeewww...double eeewww. Now I'm really icked out.
*gag*
Just another Democratic politician who couldn't plug the leak.
So did he Tipper?
(Sorry. Fixed bad link.)
I see no one has bothered to point out that the second chakra is here. The orange one.
(Of course, there really in no here there, but that's another discussion.)
Specifically: 2 - Sacral chakra (orange) The Sacral chakra is about feeling and sexuality. When it is open, your feelings flow freely....If you tend to be stiff and unemotional or have a "poker face," the Sacral chakra is under-active. You're not very open to people.
My sympathies to Tipper.
I would go even further saying most liberals don't even consider Al Gore their "idol".
Yeah. They just gave him an Oscar for his ridiculous sham of a movie AND the fucking Nobel Peace Prize. It's clear they don't think highly of him!
The only reason this is a story is because *liberals* elevated him from a failed politician--with zero charisma-- into an Important Person and mega-celebrity.
You reap what you sow. He was always an asshole. Now he's just revealing himself to be yet another kind of asshole.

> Because, AW, you are just brainlessly parroting the "rape is rape" chant of feminists.
You are the one demonstrating ignorance of the actual law, and you call me brainless. Well, we will let that fact speak for itself.
I think it’s a bad idea to say that there should be people for whom the law doesn’t apply. Even a whore has the right to say no, and if she can’t get justice from the courts, you will expect vigilante justice. That is not a good thing.
Garage
> I believe prostitution should be legal.
Do you think it should also be legal for a woman’s boss to demand that she sleep with him or be fired? Or do you support the ban on that kind of quid pro quo sexual harassment?
Freeman
> But is Gore really stupid enough to make exactly the same mistake as Clinton? (Depositing his bodily fluids on somebody's clothes.) I do find that hard to believe.
I think guys are stupid when they are drunk and erect. Yes, even that stupid.

> The last time I had a massage, I said
We all saw that Austin Powers movie.
I think that maybe even worse for AlGore is that this "Crazed sex poodle" thing is likely to stick with him, just like ManBearPig.
I can just envision that whenever he testifies before Congress, the Nobel Prize committee, the U.N., Oprah, etc., we all start off our discussion with "That crazed sex poodle, AlGore". It is such a great phrase that I think that it will have sticking power.
Oh and garage, yeah I take it as an insult when said envrionmentalist who consumes as much energy in a fricking week as I do in a year tells me I have to conserve.
Jesus Christ, he's a publicist! If you want true believers go find Ed Begley Jr. or all the Californies who drive Priuses. Who cares how well Carl Rove or W.'s press secretaries stuck to conservative mores in their personal lives, either?
Oh, that's right. No one.
At least some of us can separate the business of punditry from the actual arguments. Too bad you can't. I guess that's where the obsession with "personal responsibility" got you. You ended up confusing ideas with virtue. Silly, lazy schlemiels.
Bruce, i agree, only i hope it doesn't displace manbearpig. its so much better, because it highlights how full of sh-t he is on the environment.
And if he believed it, he wouldn't behave the way he does.
I mean its like this encounter i had with a lawyer. The lawyer was running a seminar talking about how the FTC was going to apply these new rules to the medical industry and how you need compliance programs, etc, need to spend thousands of dollars, etc. And my position was that the regulations didn't apply to us at all. So we were debating it and i said to him at one point, "well, but the same regulations apply to law offices, right?" Sure, he says. "So what have you guys done to comply with these new regulations?"
He replies that they hadn't done anything yet, but the plan to meet on it next month.
"So let me get this straight. We're all supposed to panic and spend tons of money, but when it came to how to run your business, suddenly you aren't taking it seriously. It kind of makes me wonder if you really believe these regulations apply to industries like ours at all."
He decided it was a personal insult (and to be fair it was) and hung up.
Ditto with Gore. he doesn't act like there is a problem, leading me to think he doesn't BELIEVE there is a problem. i question his sincerity.
I think that maybe even worse for AlGore is that this "Crazed sex poodle" thing is likely to stick with him
Agreed. Definitely a keeper.
The thing is, we heard him do that embarrassing "preachifying" to black audiences where he gets all exercised (a la Hillary); and we've all seen that image of him raging, where they photoshop the flames coming out of his mouth. It's just not that hard to believe that he could, conceivably, turn into a crazed sex poodle.
The details are ringing true.
My prognosis: he's cooked.
Trooper York tsaid, "Crazed sex poodles!"
Karma! Now I understand the meaning of life: the second photo at the link reveals the person from whom I was reincarnated.
Technically if a john refuses to pay for services from a prostitute that they both agreed on, there isn't an actual law he is breaking. Another reason I believe prostitution should be legal.
Keep in mind that it IS legal in some places. If you pull a Cedarford at the Mustang Ranch in Nevada I'm guessing you do jail time for rape plus robbery.
Andrew Sullivan's crazed sex beagles!
Jesus Garage, is it your mission in life to prove that all liberals are retarded?
I think the science is settled on that one.
Who cares how well Carl Rove or W.'s press secretaries stuck to conservative mores in their personal lives, either?
You. Garage Mahal. HDHouse. Jeremy. AlphaLiberal. There are probably others, but the names escape me.
At least some of us can separate the business of punditry from the actual arguments.
Which part of punditry requires living in a gigantic mansion, again? Do you have to buy the mansion before they let you be a pundit, or is it kind of like a company car and the news networks provide you with one gratis?
Anyway, the funniest thing about the Goracle's carbon-spewing Xanadu is this.
If this woman is lying, she's a gold digger. If not, she's not.
That's it, in a nutshell. There's nothing unethical about trying to profit from a bad experience like that, provided she really was just there to give a massage.
My prognosis: he's cooked.
Cooked for what? It's not like he has a job he can be fired from. He'll probably get a little bit less adulation than he's used to receiving these days, but not too much less. A large part of his fan club will assume the whole thing is a setup.
Tipper might end up with a bit more cash, depending on family law in TN.
Bruce, i agree, only i hope it doesn't displace manbearpig. its so much better, because it highlights how full of sh-t he is on the environment.
The problem with ManBearPig is that it is almost an inside joke. If you haven't seen the South Park episode, then you may not get the joke. And there are a lot of people who are grossed out by South Park.
My excuse for watching South Park is that Trey Parker and Matt Stone actually lived around the real South Park. Every episode seems to have some somewhat insider reference to that area of Colorado, whether it be going to Conifer, Cherry Hills, Kenosha Pass, or Cave of the Winds with AlGore in the Manbearpig episode (I remember visiting cousins working at the caves in high school).
"Crazed Sex Poodle" is something though that we can all relate to (esp. after seeing those pictures linked to by Trooper York).
Keep in mind that it IS legal in some places. If you pull a Cedarford at the Mustang Ranch in Nevada I'm guessing you do jail time for rape plus robbery.
One of the great things about living in Northern Nevada - except that I would be shot if I ever availed myself of their services. I suspect that they had to bring in extra help this week for the Reno rodeo events, maybe 15 minutes away. The amazing thing is that they are only 28 miles from California on I-80, a state with strict gun laws, gaming limited to Indian reservations, no legal prostitution, high taxes, and very bad roads (at least that first section of I-80 in CA).
The ante in the divorce settlement just went up.
Oh, so sorry, we are not supposed to mention that. Respect for their privacy and all that clap trap.
Al Gore as Leopold Bloom!
Although I have a hard time seeing Tipper as Molly!
But we can always call him BareManPig for fun.
"If this woman is lying, she's a gold digger. If not, she's not."
That's it, in a nutshell.
Well, no, it isn't.
The definition of "gold digger" is a woman who married for money. It doesn't matter if she loves the guy or not. Maybe she DOES love him. The question is, would she have married the man she loves if he wasn't rich, too? If the answer is "no", she's a gold digger, love notwithstanding.
In this case, a person who lied for money is clearly a gold digger. A person who tells the truth for free clearly isn't. But what do you call a person who is only willing to tell the truth if the money's good enough?
Am I the only person who thinks that Al Gore isn't worth 235 comments (and still going)?
But what do you call a person who is only willing to tell the truth if the money's good enough?
I'm not sure that behavior needs a label. It's not unethical, in my opinion. The fact that you know something explosive doesn't require you speak out for no particular reason.
Big Mike said: "Am I the only person who thinks that Al Gore isn't worth 235 comments (and still going)?"
I picked up this thread on the second page. Did I miss anything?
I'd say you're not the only one, but then it's nice to see a 200+ thread that isn't about Palin.
The sex poodle is in trouble if he left a sex puddle on the masseuse's pants.
Prove it, Revenant (whatever that means). And BTW, the relevance or irrelevance of having something has nothing to do with needing something.
Anything else?
Cooked
I meant, I think he's done for. Someone asked about Anita Hill. At the time of the hearings, I thought, why would she lie.
Reading that statement to the police, I think the very same thing.
He's cooked.
No, he can't get fired from a job, but it's just another stain so to speak on a southern democratic politician or political figure. It doesn't make him look good, and kind of mars his reputation wouldn't you say? I would. No wonder Tipper wanted out. I bet she knew or heard about it.
The only way this could not be happening in my mind the way it looks to be happening, is for this to be another Republican prank. That is the only way. And it's got to be provable, obviously. Maybe this woman did give the VP a massage, and that's it, but maybe someone got to her and paid her lots of money and so it's gonna be a he said she said thing.
That is a very remote possibility, and that to my mind is the only way Al Gore is not cooked.
Gropey Gore, the MSM, and the Mad Masseuse
A few weeks ago, Al and Tipper Gore shocked the political world by announcing that they were separating after 40 years of marriage. At once, the rumor mill got rolling about infidelity and then about an inconvenient affair with Laurie David who had produced his award-winning movie.
They’re still rumors. So far.
What isn’t a rumor is that the former vice president was involved in an October 2006 sexual incident with a licensed masseuse in a suite at the Hotel Lucia in Portland.
One more time the National Enquirer staged a scoop on the mainstream media by outing the story which the Portland Tribune knew about two years ago. The latter paper chose not to go with it, defending its decision with a lot of gobbledegook about the story not meeting its own test that “there was sufficient evidence that something inappropriate had occurred:” http://tiny.cc/4j8hn
Insufficient evidence? Apparently they regard a complaint filed with the Portland Police Bureau as just a rumor? Or could it be another example of the MSM covering up a story that reflected badly on the Democrat Party and on a liberal?
They also missed the boat on the Monica Lewinsky . . .
(read more at http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=1752)
Es tu, Algore? After Clinton, Edward,Spitzer, et Al.......
same-all-same...... Phony-Hornies, or, Horny-Phonies. Whichever comes first to your mind.
There's something risible about Al Gore in pursuit of sexual gratification. It seems so at cross purposes with his high solemnity. The Queen, the Pope, and Al Gore should never avail themselves of unknown masseuses in their hotel rooms....I'm not that wordly. Upwards of $500 seems stiff for a plain massage. Is it that unusual for a client to try to negotiate a happy ending?

I assume that the 2nd to last question was rhetorical.
And this is the problem, that the National Enquirer is better at getting out news that embarrasses major players on the left than the lame stream media is. All the news that is fit to suppress.
Before commenting , some people should read the transcript at The Smoking Gun.
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2010/0624101gore1.html
A lot of the questions I had on her credibility to me were answered after I read her statement and the storyline and level of detail seemed to be quite plausible to me. Its real disturbing to me.
I would suggest everyone read her statement and the interview before making assumptions on her motivations, or imagine being in her circumstances if what she alleged is true and how you would react under the circumstances.
Seems hard to believe on one level, for a former VP to be accused of this but we know that John Edwards a VP candidate lied about his affairs and prominent Republican and Democratic politicians and other powerful people like televangelists have acted in similar fashion. So its not out of the realm of possibility. Yikes.
Oh, I don't care, really. Al Gore grosses me out sexually , so I really don't want to hear anything about it. And happily Tipper already made the move, so no place for moral outrage/coming to her defense, either.
I've had two friends that were massage therapists. One was legit, one wasn't. The legit one always got proposals and wouldn't even talk to the non-legit one. She blamed her somehow for her troubles.
I'm sure she's been hit on by even grosser guys.
Gore/Edwards 2012!
Today's claim is that the masseuse was not paid to tell her story. No gold was dug.
I doubt this is the only incident the Crazed Sex Poodle has in his past.
Now that one story's come out, you can be sure there will be others.
You see, Al Gore is now dispensable, so his reputation can be ruined in order to distract from Afghanistan, Iran, BP, illegal immigration, etc.
Ritmo said Jesus Christ, he's a publicist!
Oh now that is rich. Gore is now a publicist and not an environmental activist. How convenient to the narrative.
You really outdid yourself with that one sparky. I suppose some idiot will actually buy that line.
The National Enquirer probably senses blood in the water and is very quietly gathering more evidence--they broke the Edwards story, and I suspect there will be more shoes dropping.
they broke the Edwards story, and I suspect there will be more shoes dropping.
Or pants...
Al Gore is more of a Hybrid --perhaps a cross between a Bulldog and a Shih-szu.
Shih-Tzu
But what do you call a person who is only willing to tell the truth if the money's good enough?
I wouldn't call that being a gold digger.
So it appears that Tipper will get to slap a warning label on another offensive cultural icon....
I think it rich that so many on here just take the truth-i-ness of the story (that it actually happened) as fact and they argue the details. It's like saying I flew to the moon and brought back these rocks and all you want to do is argue about the validity of the rocks when the answer rests in "did he fly to the moon in the first place".
What has Gore done to you that you would go after him like this without 1. his side of things if there is a side and 2. that it is worth finding out if the story has any credibility at all other than perhaps a rehearsed speech, well coached and plausibly executed.
Is this what some of you are? Is this the type of person some of you aspire to become and be?
Okay to delve into the linguistic discussion.
A gold digger was originally a person who actually dug in the ground for gold.
Then we started calling people who married fro money gold diggers, to mockingly compare them to those miners.
So why can't we also apply it to other people acting on mercenary desires? i see nothing wrong with it.
What has Gore done to you that you would go after him like this
Funny we can ask you the same question about Sarah Palin. I'm sure even you can see the irony in your statement no?
HD
your "rehersed speech" comment proves you haven't even read the transcript.
Anyway, your complaint is that some people find her credible. So? And? That is not the same as saying he is guilty.
As for his side of it, Al's spokesperson isn't even denying it right now. She simply says "no comment." So they asked for his side and the answer was a big fat nothing.
HoosierD said: "Funny we can ask you the same question about Sarah Palin."
I was thinking the exact same thing.
I was also thinking HDH would be the one stupid enough to go there.
I was also thinking HDH would be the one stupid enough to go there.
Well he ain't the brightest light in the harbor. Then there is garage who thinks that Althouse posting multiple threads on GOP sex scandals doesn't rise to the level of 'slight interest'. I mean the fact that she blogged about them would define at least 'a slight interest'.
I think the rise and very abrupt fall of The Won is really affecting the mental functioning of some liberals out there.
HDHouse - the question remains - IQ or patents - which number is larger?
The transcript was transcribed from speech given at an in person, live interview.
Yes, I know. That's what transcripts are. :)
But you're saying that either the words are true or the woman's a great actor. But you can't tell how convincing she was from reading a transcript -- the same phrase can be delivered in a way that either convinces you of its truth, or convinces you it is a lie. You can't just read the words and declare their emotional truth -- they could have been completely rehearsed and delivered unconvincingly. The police don't appear to have found the words that convincing, and they're the ones who actually heard them.
This is all moot, anyway. Anyone who says "39 years in the business has trained my ear to distinguish truthful from deceptive statements" is living in fantasyland. Anybody can be bullshitted, particularly if the person is telling them what they want to hear. E.g., that one of their least favorite politicians is a criminal.
Prove it, Revenant (whatever that means).
I was going to ask "prove what?" but apparently YOU don't know what "Prove it, Revenant" is supposed to mean either. ;)
And BTW, the relevance or irrelevance of having something has nothing to do with needing something.
Gore HAS a mansion. Gore NEEDS nothing more than a small apartment. The difference between the two is tells you how much larger Gore's ego is than his concern for the environment.
What has Gore done to you that you would go after him like this without 1. his side of things if there is a side
Heh. I think most people would LOVE to hear Gore’s side of things, but he’s not talking. So, if the person accused of something says “no comment” everyone has to shut up? Not likely.
HDHouse, many of us have already said that it looks like she's either telling the truth OR has studied police reports and practiced to be convincing.
The definition of "gold digger" is a woman who married for money. It doesn't matter if she loves the guy or not. Maybe she DOES love him. The question is, would she have married the man she loves if he wasn't rich, too? If the answer is "no", she's a gold digger, love notwithstanding.
I don't agree with the bolded part of the definition. Otherwise "gold digger" would be meaningless. Do we have any way to access whether or not somebody would marry someone, money or not, except love?
So why can't we also apply it to other people acting on mercenary desires? i see nothing wrong with it.
Would you call someone who goes to work everyday a gold digger? You wouldn't if you wanted to retain any of the modern meaning to the phrase. "Gold digger" has distinct negative connotations. It implies that a person is predatory and misrepresenting feelings for financial gain.
Freeman
> Would you call someone who goes to work everyday a gold digger? You wouldn't if you wanted to retain any of the modern meaning to the phrase. "Gold digger" has distinct negative connotations. It implies that a person is predatory and misrepresenting feelings for financial gain.
Well, I think mercenary implies a little more than just going to a day job in my mind. Which maybe isn’t fair to all mercenaries. I mean if you decide to only work for the side you consider right, and kill only people you believe deserve it, but you insist in higher pay than the ordinary soldier, is that such a bad thing? But in our culture, mercenary has a built in negative connotation, hence the attempt to rebrand some as “contractors.”
That all being said, if we require a gold digger to be “predatory and misrepresenting feelings for financial gain” then, well, if this woman is lying about Gore, isn’t she kind of fitting that?
But that’s the last I will say on that, because ultimately arguments about the meanings of words and phrases is mainly a waste of time.
It implies that a person is predatory and misrepresenting feelings for financial gain.
Indeed. I have to agree with Freeman on this (and I really dislike the idea that a woman who marries someone they are in love with is a gold digger).
As for this lady, if you can make a million bucks by telling a true story that doesn't hurt anybody (or at least, anybody that hasn't already hurt you) fine by me. I do think you have to realize that taking money for a story will always make some people mistrust what you say, and if a million bucks is worth it to you have at it.
That all being said, if we require a gold digger to be “predatory and misrepresenting feelings for financial gain” then, well, if this woman is lying about Gore, isn’t she kind of fitting that?
That is precisely what I said upthread. I said that if she is lying, she is a gold digger. If she is telling the truth, she is not.
