Looks like we have a Republican lying about his military service, making up stories, making up awards over many years.

He's Republican Congressman Mark Kirk and he is running for Senate in Illinoise.

This is far worse than anything Blumenthal did. YET, it will receive a small fraction of the coverage that did.

Any ideas why!

IOKIYAR!!

1.) I like optimism. It's a bleary day all around the world, things looking terrible...give us some uplift and optimism, Ann!

2.) STFU, Alphaliberal. Seriously. Just. Go. Away.

3.) Spot the contradiction!

Com'on AlphaLiberal, that's why Tipper dumper you man. Get a life.

"Illinoise."

Illinois needs to shut up.

Hagar বলেছেন...

I don't think I quite follow this strategy of complaining about have bad the oilspill is, and is going to be, and how incompetently the containment efforts are handled, etc., etc., while at the same time declaring that the Government has been fully in charge from day one and has total control of the situation.

AlphaLiberal বলেছেন...

Illinoise is one of my favorite misspellings. Why correct it?

STFU? Why? It's an open thread in a free country.

Oh, STFU because you don't want bad news reported on Republicans! Like John Ensign's very under-reported sex/embezzling/influence peddling scandal. (Dude screwed two staff at once, come on, that's worthy of talking about!)

OR STFU because It's OK if You Are a Republican?? So, Mark Kirk fabricates military service stories and it's "STFU!"

Beautiful day in Madison.

AlphaLiberal বলেছেন...

Hagar, you have a real good point. I saw it covered at a lib blog this AM.

And, will the Republicans adopt a more honest slogan?

"Shill, baby, shill!"

I know - don't feed the troll.

"This is far worse than anything Blumenthal did."

Lying is lying, AL. But I understand why the concept is foreign to a leftist.

"Yet it will receive a small fraction of the coverage."

Really? You know this for a fact? Well, I'd appreciate next week's Powerball numbers, since you're such a savant.

But finish the story, AL - what will Kirk do? Will he blame the media, insist he simply misspoke and refuse to drop out of the race? Or will he man up, apologise, leave the race and slink into the obscurity and obloquy he so richly deserves? I know which one I'd bet on.

But don't let me stop you from fucking that chicken.

AlphaLiberal বলেছেন...

Lying is lying, AL. But I understand why the concept is foreign to a leftist.

Thank you. Right wingers are much more accomplished liars. It's second nature for them.

Blumenthal clearly stated on numerous occasions and in the same speech the NYT used to hit him over the issue - that he was stateside.

Kirk, OTOH, made up awards he claimed to be awarded, pretended to serve in Iraq. He has a much more damning record.

But finish the story, AL - what will Kirk do? Will he blame the media, insist he simply misspoke and refuse to drop out of the race? Or will he man up, apologise, leave the race and slink into the obscurity and obloquy he so richly deserves? .

Thanks for the clear admission of your ignorance of the story. He has, to date, refused to apologize. But you would know that if you got news outside the Fox echo chamber.

Really? You know this for a fact? .

No, because it's in the future. It's called a prediction and it's based on the record of the two stories to date as well as the historical record of imbalance between new reporting on the two parties (see Republican John Ensign's under-reported sex/embezzling scandal).

AlphaLiberal বলেছেন...

Google News search runoff:

"Mark Kirk military record"
445 news articles.

"Richard Blumenthal military record"
2,632 articles (And the story is 2-3 weeks old).

It's an open and shut case of media bias. They blow the Blumenthal mis-statements clear out of proportion and make a national story of it.

Meanwhile, the Republican offense is far worse and it barely is reported off the blogs and barely on the national level.

Hell, look at Senator John Vitter, the Diaper Senator. Caught paying a prostitute to make him wear diapers and he's still in office. Elliot Spitzer paid for whores with his own money, as well. He's outta there!

Beautifully done, Madame. I needed a little something like that. We may be losing Morstan this afternoon, so a little beauty is in order.

"Illinoise."

"Illinoise", a parallel, sexist state where the wives of Illinoisans live.

Alpha needs to get a life. The voters will decide if they want him.

reader_iam বলেছেন...

Meanwhile, Mickey Kaus is a realist.

Alpha, you're on a roll. There's not a single story--scandal or otherwise--that you've brought up in weeks that I hadn't already read and heard a lot about way before you posted it in comments threads here. Not a single, solitary one. Betcha I'm not the only commenter here who can say that (I'm just not that special, alas).

Christopher in MA বলেছেন...

"outside the Fox echo chamber"

Today's the first I heard of Kirk, AL. And only because you brought him up. Unlike you, I don't feverishly scan the news looking for the latest bloody scalp to wave in people's faces. But thanks for the screeching white noise.

So Kirk has refused to apologise? More the fool, he. As far as I'm concerned, he should be kicked to the curb. Lying about military service - hell, lying - is a disgrace. Like you.

But since you're so concerned with probity and honesty, let me know when Slobbering Barney "I never said Fannie and Freddy were sound / I didn't know a gay escort service was running out of my house / I've never seen a marijuana plant in my life" Fwank is frogmarched out of the Senate seat he pollutes.

Anyway - this thread is about optimism? I'm optimistic my Harley will be out of the repair shop by this weekend.

It's getting on to that tired, shut-in time of Arkansas summers.

Today in a friend's backyard, cottony seeds were floating about in the air like snowflakes. Or like faeries.

Freeman Hunt বলেছেন...

Also, the Wal-Mart shareholders' meeting is going on now. Shopping at the test store today was like shopping under a microscope. Busloads of international tourists inside looking around and taking snapshots. Fun to have them in town, a bit unnerving to select your groceries before spectators though.

That's just not true reader. Many of us think of you as "special."

Trooper York বলেছেন...

As is AlphaLiberal, but he is "special" in a "Special-Ed" kind of way.

Busloads of international tourists inside looking around and taking snapshots.

I suppose there will be an uptick in posting at People Of Walmart.

Hagar বলেছেন...

Also, shouldn't they have waited up on launching criminal probes of BP and its subs until BP has gotten the oil safely shut off?

Freeman Hunt বলেছেন...

Something I saw today: A shirtless man riding a unicycle as an actual mode of transport, not just playing around.

reader_iam বলেছেন...

Freeman: Was he wearing shorts?

Trooper York বলেছেন...

Or Man Spanx?

reader_iam বলেছেন...

Speedo? Or--heaven protect us--thong?

OK, now I have to go and wash the visions from brain.

Freeman Hunt বলেছেন...

Haha. No, he balanced the impropriety of no shirt with long pants in very hot weather.

Did he look content?

Freeman Hunt বলেছেন...

He did look content. He looked like he had all of his concentration channeled into the riding of the unicycle.
