"After a while, you start to go on automatic pilot. Too many times I was sitting there bored."

"The audience deserves more than that ... and I can't hide when I'm bored."

(Great pic at the link.)

the only interesting part of 'american idol' is the first couple of weeks when the crazies are there. after that the show is a bore and always has been.

I thought that AI was an instant hit just because Simon Colwell was a pull no punches immediate feed back giver of critcism to the young talent. That had been a missing ingredient from the lives of most American youth, and they reacted well to being respected enough to be told the truth about their performances by Simon. Since those early years, AI has become more of a talent contest with greatly talented singers. The current AI is getting a touch boring.

Simon is a bit of an asshole, but he is honest. I think AI is pretty much in winddown mode now. It will not be the same without Simon.

As for the photograph...if he took it when he was ten it would be cute. What was he, 17 or 18 when that picture was taken. Hilarious and scathing.

We all look weird through the lenses of time and fashion. Teenage Simon Cowell is no different.

I get the notion that Cowell is a pretty respectful, somewhat down-to-earth person when you scratch his veneer.

He is at least honest and not a sycophant.

I believe the phrase is, "I was experimenting".

Not unlike the doofi who have their pants down around the ground with their underwear showing. The day will come when some cringe; the rest will never leave it.

One was a regular on 'Bosom Buddies' with Tom Hanks.

WV "unessess" A warship in the UN Navy.

Yeah. It sucks that Kara is going to be the only one with a moustache next season.

Dawn went away because I was no good for her.

Who are you again? Oh yes, the idiot from the stupid show I am so thankful I never got sucked into watching.

9 comments on your boredom. You bore us.

With the ability to raise goldfish and plant gardens - even start an ant farm..the choices people make for entertainment just dazzle me.

There is something to admire about someone who will tell the truth without pulling any punches. As social creatures our first instinct is always to make the other person feel good about themselves, and it is difficult to give honest criticism without feeling cruel. It is extremely difficult to be a success in the music business and most of the people he sees are wasting his time and their own time on unrealistic fantasies. If Simon knows that someone is never going to make it, why give them hope by telling them how wonderful they are?

I think the long-haired Simon looked pretty studly for a 70's guy. That style would have been perfect during the unfortunate disco era.

Agreed, he does share many qualities with Jerry Springer.

Simon admits American Idol is boring.

So, please, all you AI fans out there, explain it's appeal again?

I don't think he would've been able to grow bored if it was a real talent contest,..

When Susan Boyle came out and sang that song from Les Miserables and the camera panned to Cowell, the first look of shock on his face was a WTF? moment, then when he started to smile, he then saw a lot of money. I like him because he's honest about his thoughts and doesn't hide it. You know where he is coming from and what he is expecting or not expecting. It's refreshing to see that in someone. I used to admire that in Howard Stern, but now it's just become played out high school.
