I've seen that kind of "complexity" before. During grad school, I did clinical work for a year and a half on the intensive treatment unit of a psychiatric hospital.

Hmm...I guess cognitive dissonance isn't really lying, per se.

where's the disconnect? I mean, on one hand you have an intellect that thinks mankind is creative and positive, and on the other is a political grifter.

Does anyone still find Obama cool? He comes off more and more School Marmy to me every day.

Should Mr. Lauren ever offer to give me a large sum of money, I promise to generously accept.
Obama definitely wasn't cool a little bit ago when he spoke about Iran. I walked by the TV and--surprise!--Obama was talking; I think it was a press conference. He sounded scared and kept repeating himself, trying to sound confident. He's not fooling anybody. He hopes that Iran uses nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. (Did I hear that right?? I don't see a video out yet.)
Which demographic do you most want to appeal to? All of them.
I am not surprised. Barack Obama looks good in Ralph Lauren's preppy WASP look. Of course Ralph Rueben Lifshit, who changed himself into Ralph Lauren, would admire Barack Obama.
And that drive and ambition that made Ralph Lauren himself is very Randian too.
What exquisitely bad taste.
The dissonance begs the question of whether Mr. Lauren ever read either Rand or Hemmingway, and if he did, did Lauren understand them?
The name is Lifshitz, and he's sold illusion for most of his life.
That he should value kindness after 70 years is also no surprise.
It takes two for a successful con. Color, pattern, and quality matter to me and I've enjoyed the sheets, wallpaper, and clothing I've purchased that also happen to carry his distinctive logo.
The man figured out how pull in millions by marketing an image, so it's no surprise to me that he admires Obama.
