I am sorry you feel alone.

Charles Aznavour was a favorite of Dylan's for his musical style and his inspired lyrics. That is a great reccomendation.

I saw them do that Accidentally Like A Martyr in Indianapolis in 2004. Most moving live performance I've ever heard.

Subject: Ann Althouse

Please Bob, would you just send Althouse an email or call her up or something, she's your number one fan among Law Professors.

Thanks.

Wait. It wasn't Indianapolis. It was Dayton.

I did not know Dylan did a London Calling cover. I saw the Clash's Palladium show in NYC. I think time around for that venue, February 1979.

Both the Clash and the Palladium are gone now...I feel alone.

But I would not feel so all alone. Everybody must get stoned.

Bob Dylan most tiresome, overrated, pathetic excuse for a musical "artist" I have ever seen. How anyone can sit through that shit is beyond me.

Well can't we call Sully for some dope...oh wait. I guess we can't. He's on double secret probation or something.

Dear Professor...There is out of no where an anger at women from influential men that seems to be going around like the swine flu this week. Don't take it personally. You are very valuable to us.

I don't get what makes some of these performances "weird." Song choice? Arrangement? Is it weird that Dylan would choose to sing Something?

Also, the people who thought Dylan's Christmas album would be "cynical" are clueless. They stopped paying attention at Masters of War.

Bingo.

That's ridiculous.

All three Zevon songs, Friend of the Devil, and Old Man are also not "weird" choices for him. Dylan has covered Blue Moon, Dixie, End of the Innocence, Rock of Ages, Four Strong Winds, Froggie Went A-Courtin, Peace in the Valley and a hundred others in concert few people have ever heard of. For someone with a repertoire that wide, pulling out a George Harrison or Grateful Dead tune is almost mundane.

I wouldn't put all these choices in the "weird" category, some of them are really good.

The weirdest thing is the second "Friend of the Devil" video where young fans come on stage and Dylan doesn't miss a beat while shaking hands, receiving kisses from ladies and avoiding large, stumbling guys. This "lapse" in security wasn't a once off, I've seen other videos with same thing.

I doubt it. Though Althouse is obviously a fan and knows her Bob, she doesn't strike me as a fanatic and there plenty of Law Professors that are. Dylan is the most cited popular musician in judicial opinons and in law journals.

Slightly off topic, this is one of the weirdest Dylan covers I've seen. It's the Leningrad Cowboys (a Finnish kitsch rock band) covering "Knockin' on Heavens Door" with the Russian Red Army Choir in front of 70,000 Finns, shortly after the end of the Cold War. Very moving if you know anything about the wars the Finns have had with the Russians.
