It's a southern thing.

My Grandmother's second husband hunted squirrel and enjoyed their taste. Grandma would hide the squirrel among the pieces of fried chicken. You had to be very, very careful.

My grandmother scrambled pig brains with her eggs quite often and lived to 94.

My late uncle used to tell us great stories when we were kids. Wish we'd recorded them. He had a version of "Hiawatha" with brand names:
