He said he was "stupid" and "sorry" and "didn't know [he] was doing anything illegal," that he thought he "was confronting friends" and "retrieving [his] things." But it will be at least 15 years for the 61-year-old football great.
Here he is in happier times.

Seems a bit of a harsh penalty for being a lowlife moron. Didn't his lawyer try to use that argument at the trial?
Wow! What were the charges, again? This seems harsh (not that there isn't a rough justice to it).
No, it will apparently be a minimum of 9 years in prison.
Remember that just because someone is sentenced to "15 years" doesn't really mean they have to serve all 15.
It will apparently be 9 years, minimum, before OJ can be released on parole. I think only a commutation/pardon or a health problem (physical, mental, or death) can get him out serving the full sentence. That, or a prison break . . .
He breaks out of prison and he'd be ripe for a new Hertz commercial.
It was armed robbery!
He was convicted of 12 counts felony, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and burglary. I don't think 15 years (eligible for parole in 6) is all that harsh.

Who could he afford this time around?
Good riddance to bad garbage. Harsh is what happened to Nicole Simpson Brown and Ron Goldman. The sorry bastard is getting off light.
Eligible for parole in 6 years.
It was armed robbery!
Yeah, OK. Point taken. I guess I can't help but compare it to the murders, to which this seems like small potatoEs.
Maybe Bush will give him a pardon.
He was a Thug. 6-15 years is not much really for 12 felonies with a weapon in the mix.
Maybe Obama will pardon him. Brothers got to stick together, stop snitchin' and all that.
This is like getting Al Capone on tax evasion. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
Roger,
What I'm ultimately more concerned about is how this is going to negatively impact OJ's search for the real killer. You know, the one armed man.... oops wrong fiction.
Inmates in Nevada's big house are taking bets as to who has this trophy first. Run OJ Run!
Finally. Hope he gets some special "treatment" from his cell mates.
Damn Drill Sgt--hadnt even thought of that; Apparently the real killer didnt spend much time of the golf course--oh wait.....

Sgt, maybe he has a lead that the real killer is in the Big House, and this is all a ploy in furthance of his search.
Here's the list (from the BBC).
- Conspiracy to commit a crime: guilty
- Conspiracy to kidnap: guilty
- Two counts of first degree kidnapping: guilty
- Burglary in possession of a deadly weapon: guilty
- Two counts of armed robbery: guilty
- Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon: guilty
- Two counts of coercion with use of a deadly weapon: guilty
That's only 11, whereas every place else says 12.
So the glove fit this time?
Where's Jackie Chiles when you need him?
I'm reading parole in a minimum of 9 years now. But his attorneys say that a successful appeal will be a piece of cake.

I don't think we can wish that OJ get repeatly raped in prison. That extra treatment is extra-judicial, barbaric and should not be allowed.
That OJ should however be concerned about being raped doesn't bother me in the least. Though the same folks that define fear of dogs on a leash as torture, should define fear of rape the same way.
I don't.
I hate to be a stick-in-the-mud, but I am always bothered by jokes about prison rape. It's just not funny and there aren't any crimes for which I consider it just punishment.

Using rape or threatened rape as an interrogation or punishment is of course torture. If it was a sanctioned punishment, it would of course be cruel and unusual.
Prison rape is a serious problem that we should not make jokes about or think that any criminal deserves. Prison authorities can and have been held responsible for not preventing the rape of inmates (although the standard of care that prison authorities are held to is shockingly low).
the prison rape jokes ought to stop now. if anyone still nurses the desire to joke about it over drinks with their buddies tonight while discussing oj, maybe stop by the "stop prison rape" organization's web site and read a bit.
on topic, I'm heartened that we can look forward to at least several years without reading/hearing about Orenthal James. his entire life's drama deserves a rest.
Hunter: rape & sodomy of a child. Supreme Court says we can't execute them. Even in prison some crimes are seen as over the line.
While I don't wish OJ to be raped, should he then oh well. He murdered two people. One of whom he had physically beat before. You play by rough rules then sometimes the karma catches up. He's not some 22-year old who got caught with a little grass.
What happened?
No riots?
So, there was celebration for his aquital and no rioting for his conviction?
Has Obama hurt OJ?
What about the assholes that stole from him?
Surely they are liberals: Pay No Price for their crimes.
Hearing about it on the news right now... during the sentencing, the judge said "...I didn't know whether the defendant was ignorant or arrogant, and I learned the answer during the trial. And it's both."
lolololololol....
Yah! This is a man who should have been put away and forgotten so long ago. I know I am glad to see the back of his head. Maybe we can stop talking about him now that he's heading to jail.
And perhaps we could stop using him as a proxy for 'all black people.' That may be asking too much.
The next time I expect to hear about OJ is his obituary. May he die of natural causes in prison.
It's remarkable that none of the esteemed posters in this neighborhood can't see through this sham of a trial and recognize what really happened.
OJ has brilliantly managed to have himself falsely accused of crimes he didn't commit, then hired a low-bucks semi-competent defense team all in an effort to be sentenced to a penal facility where he knows the real killer is located.
Stunning. I'm waiting for John Walsh to declare OJ an American hero for his determination to sole Nichol's murder.
/solve
I started to watch the reading of the verdict on TV; there was something about him so bereft of dignity, so at the lowest level of human-ness, so achingly sad, I had to look away.
He's going to a penile facility? What a dick!
I just saw a snippet of the Judge discussing the sentence/sentencing issue, the essence of which is the OJ was guilty and stupid (and arrogant). To see OJ with the certainty of the time in prison finally dawning on him and that the last card (pending appeal) has been dealt and his deck dwindling to a just north of zero chance for escaping fate, was, as saddening as it was just.
I'm no fan of a soup to nuts system that produces a prison population that, overall, has more in it than a number of states (imagine half of NYC in one big jail) and more in lockup than all of Europe combined so on one hand the entire process tugs a bit, but he did what he did, let's move on, and figure out a way to produce fewer of these types within our civilized society (sic!).
Also say a prayer that that Grace woman on CNN doesn't start an OJ appeal watch.
