It's me and Emily Bazelon -- on the new Bloggingheads!

They've called this one "Playground Edition" -- because all the topics involve children -- also law, Lori Drew, suicide, dressing like stereotypical Indians, book-learning, and the Pledge of Allegiance:

This has been a great week at BHTV. Lots of good diavlogs. Looking forward to this one...

Ann, was really out there on the far right with those pieces on the Pledge and Indians

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

There are about 12 places in that video where I go left of Bazelon.

Ann, you didn't note my sarcasm?

Sofa King বলেছেন...

Can I just say that "Bazelon" was one of my favorite judge's names?

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

I did. I was just amplifying the point. Sorry to be confusing!

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

Judge Bazelon was her grandfather.

you hair looks cute. A little bit more "severe cut" than in the past.

Not severe in a bad way. Just more of a line around your face-which looks good.

Have you ever thought of doing a little darker roots and blonde everywhere else?

TitusLyposomalDisorder বলেছেন...

Do you need to get you hair colored monthly?

TitusLyposomalDisorder বলেছেন...

yea, i meant the bangs.

I like the bangs too.

It is hard to wear bangs.

Mad Props to you for pulling it off.

I thought vampires were all teenage girls cared about.

"Have you ever thought of doing a little darker roots and blonde everywhere else?"

You have to have dark hair that grows in for that to happen!

I do add low-lights frequently, though. Those aren't done to the roots. They're done in strands.

The new doo is mucho hot.

Ron বলেছেন...

You should fool the Bloggingheads audience by ending the discussion in song!

Ann's concern about the public's apparent lackadaisical deference towards the governments overreaching regulation of the Internet is dead on.

Speaking of child abuse..

What Jon & Kate + Eight?

Totally aside from the facts of this case, I can imagine in the future there will be a species of serial killer who uses deceit on the internet to goad people in to committing suicide. It's easy to imagine. It's probably happening already. So I was interested to hear the conversation about suicide (culpability for) get started in the video. (Did that conversation keep going? I had to click out and do something else, and now I'm kind of pressed. oh well.)

Cute, but more Feldon than Fonda.

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

chuck, that reminds me of Mrs. Danvers in the movie "Rebecca": "Go ahead. Jump. He never loved you, so why go on living? Jump and it will all be over... "

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

I think it's important to hold people responsible for their own suicides -- because I want people who contemplate suicide to take responsibility and not be encouraged by the idea that they will succeed in tormenting others with endless guilt.

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

In the case of a person who isn't in incurable pain and facing death from illness, it is self-murder, and we normally resist letting murderers off the hook even when we can see the various causes of their violent impulses.

Meade বলেছেন...

Beautifully right-wing.

What to do about this guy then?

'Mr Phyall had thought through how he was going to commit suicide very carefully - he went to a great deal of trouble to rig up the chainsaw knowing full well the result would be fatal.

It was death in the most dramatic way imaginable.

I find he did so to draw attention to the injustice he felt at being asked to move out of his flat.'
