In autumn all the colors mix,
A full spectrum of glory;
Soon enough they'll all be nixed,
But that's another story.

BJK చెప్పారు...

It's Madison, so I assume the Obama sign came with the house.

Classic beauty spoiled by a sign of the times.

Darcy చెప్పారు...

Hmm...something is spoiling this beautiful photo...hmmm. *holds thumb up* There. Better. :)

But seriously, great photo. Lovely doorstep.

If you're implying snow... well that's just racist.

The change we need .

MadisonMan చెప్పారు...

A bad stair/bannister set-up for snow-shoveling, I must say.

I love autumn. Leaves are a nuisance to deal with, but it's sure a pretty time of year.

Mmm, compost-y goodness.

Christy చెప్పారు...

Major wind here today, wonderfully blowing my leaves off the trees and down the street.

Here in firmly blue Maryland, I've seen exactly 3 Obama yard signs within a couple of miles of my house, and only 2 on cars in the grocery parking lot the other day. And yet almost everyone I know is voting for him. No McCain signs, of course. What could this curious lack of signage mean. 4 years ago signs were everywhere.

ricpic చెప్పారు...

Guilty as charged, chicken. And even though it was subconscious racism I know my betters will soon be readying reeducation centers for even subconscious slips.

MadisonMan చెప్పారు...

I have heard that signs were free 4 years ago, and they aren't now. Don't know if that's true or not. But it would explain things.

Hiding an Obama sign behind the pretty flowers, are we?

You can't fool us.

Fantastic color photograph.

The owners really need to spread some wealth around to Joe the stone mason. Then spread some of Joe the stone mason's wealth around to me. Then I'll spread some of my wealth around to a camera shop and upgrade. Then I'll rush back in line so the camera shop can spread some of the camera shop's wealth back to me.

LOL! How appropriate the Obama sign lurking behind the bushes as though waiting to jump out and mug somebody.

mccullough చెప్పారు...

Autumn is an elitist term. It's fall.

And comes that other fall we call the fall.

Unknown చెప్పారు...

Here in the Inland Empire of Southern California, my street has only 2 Obama - Biden signs and 3 McCain-Palin signs. Our last block party on Labor Day had some passionate political conversation. Still, everyone knows everyone, gets along with everyone and still watches out for everyone's kids.

But it's never quite as pretty as the picture you have here.

Ernesto Ariel Suárez చెప్పారు...

Autumn (call me elitist, mccullough) is perhaps the greatest thing about this northern latitudes. Coming from two regions with permanent summer, I fell in love with it.

Autumn is elegant, happy and aromatic. It really brings people together, and shows a lot of what nature can do with color.

Ann Althouse చెప్పారు...

Arguably, "autumn" is to "fall" as "beverage" is to "drink," and by my own standard, I should have said "fall." But I don't like "fall" with "doorstep."

Ernesto Ariel Suárez చెప్పారు...

ricpic, that's a great rhyme, I liked it.

Although looking at those steps I automatically thought of "ice" and "fall" as in "Holy cr@p, I just broke my ribs!" which coincidentally happened to me last year...

chickelit చెప్పారు...

I should have said 'fall.' But I don't like 'fall' with 'doorstep.'

Oh sure.
You just wanted us to subliminally climb to Obama's level, rather than hint of any humbling downfall on his part.

Lem Vibe Bandit చెప్పారు...

Notice how everything started dying as a direct result of that darth-vader-undian sign there ;)

Ernesto Ariel Suárez చెప్పారు...

Lem, te la comiste, chico! Good one!

Gracias amigo.

Swifty Quick చెప్పారు...

Typical Obama supporter. Unkempt. One of my first cases out of law school was a slip and fall on a sidewalk. I'm still amazed at all the caselaw there is on the subject, and it goes back a long ways. My bottom-line opinion? Whoever owns those steps better get them swept off.

blake చెప్పారు...

Heh. I didn't even notice the sign until it was pointed out in the comments.

"Arguably, "autumn" is to "fall" as "beverage" is to "drink," and by my own standard, I should have said "fall." But I don't like "fall" with "doorstep.""

I hate when people use the word "fall" to mean "autumn". "Fall" is a word for illiterate morons. LOOK THE PRETTY LEAVES FALL DOWN!! IT SEASON OF FALL!

I don't like "drink" either. I don't like verbs pretending to be nouns.

But "beverage" is a terrible word. I think you should be specific when imbibing liquids. If you want to drink liquor, say "let's drink some liquor!" or "Let's get some booze!" or "Let's have a cocktail!" If you want to drink water, say "May I have a glass of water?". If you want to drink beer say "I thirst for some beer!" There's no need to ever use the general term "beverage" or "drink". Be specific!

"Autumn" is good.

Ah, dear Palladian, we agree again, surprise surprise... :)

blake చెప్పారు...

Gotta disagree with the disdain for the word "beverage".

Sometimes no other word will do.

Dust Bunny Queen చెప్పారు...

Take out the Obama sign and this picture would be an outstanding jig saw puzzle.

Lots of Ann's photos would be challenging jig saws and fun to put together. Just saying. :-)

Darcy చెప్పారు...

If you want to drink beer say "I thirst for some beer!"

Or just "Beer me". :P
