Jackie and Dunlap are sublime here:
Don't miss the proposed Obama commercial at 2:56.
Via Fausta's Blog, which also has the details on those red shoes Palin wore on Friday, you know the ones that had you grasping for the right ruby-slippers-not-in-Alaska-anymore wisecrack. $149. It can't be easy stumping in $149 dress shoes. (Ugh. "Stumping" -- that sounds so wrong when you're talking about shoes. I cried because I had to campaign in $149 high heels, and then I met a candidate who had no feet....)

They said Hillary Clinton put 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling.
What'd she do, look at it?
And now Sarah Palin ready's to break through that thang!
Das right, yeah well hell, if she had trouble breaking through it she could take out a gun!
Shatter the sheet out of that SUCKER! John Woo style! TWO HANDS!
L..M..A..O.......
I'm seeing $134.10, not $149. Cute at either price, though.

They stumbled into the truth.

The Pope is going to LOVE her.
Madison must be really hard up for humor. Pitiful.
Funny that 6 of the joke lines were already done out here on the Country Station KFROG. On Friday, just a couple of hours after the announcement.
Out here, our middle schoolers put out better stuff that's actually humorous.
I guess the difference is talent.
Yawn.
It's sort of like an Onion article, except with no funny headline.
"I'm seeing $134.10, not $149. Cute at either price, though."
It was $149. I guess they just got marked down.
Doc, you'd best never run for office or we'll see Rocky in an anti-Althousian ad! "Watch me pull a post outta my hat!"
Women are not a minority.
(LOL.)
Women are not a minority, followed up with LOL.
So which is it? You can't have it both ways. Or maybe you can if you're a feminist.
There is always a catch. Too true...
But it made me laugh.
(1) I thought that video was way funny! I got an electric shock from that crack about how it’s so very commendable that a mother would love her baby. Edgy.
(2) If John McCain is 5’-7” and Sarah Palin was wearing those heels, can we put her at 5’-2” max? Photo. If so, that’ll hurt her because statistics show that only two times in American history has the shorter woman been elected Vice-President.
(3) America’s energy problems would be solved overnight if we opened up ANWR for the mining of upsidasium.
So poor parodies are "sublime"? And women are still "minorities"? There's nothing funny or insightful in that clip.
Palin can't help that she was born female, but Obama had choices about how he presented himself to the world and he chose the black/victim/minority route to advance his ambitions. He chose Chicago Dem politics. He chose his radical associations. And Althouse swoons. It's probably just something in the Perrier in the UWM law faculty lounge...
ricpic:
Women are not a minority.
I think this post in conjunction with the one just above is amusing.
I think Althouse's series of posts this morning are amusing (with the exception of the Gustav ones--hurricanes aren't funny).
Should I consider myself swiped over something, ricpic? Eh, whatever.
Have a lovely day. Me, I'm driving through mountains for a spell, so I'll enjoy the flip side of Mother Nature's offerings. Thank goodness for "and's"; a world of "or's" would be a bleak place indeed.
How could anyone considered women a minority when they make up 57% of the voting population is beyond me. Those people should use a dictionary more often.
McCain Gets $7 Million Bounce from Palin Pick
Part of the 7m is mine, Bearbee. $25 on Thursday. $250 on Friday after the announcement. ;)
Awesome, Ruth Anne! :)
I got a little carried away due to my wish having come true, and reached deep inside my pockets for the first time in my voting life.
But you know, getting carried away with the import of the occasion is not so bad. I read my parents what you wrote about twirling your daughters around, and singing that see a girl can become anything. My mother was enchanted.
"John McCain may pay hundred of dollars for his shoes, but we're the ones who will pay for his flip-flops.''
Men's flip-flops are five bucks a pair at Old Navy. Even if he wants the fancier kind with a little more support, they're only $19.50. ;-) We'd pay out a lot more than that to the government under an Obamunist regime.
And I agree with the LOL re the "women = minorities" idea. The only reason some people would think that is because a certain segment of women (i.e. radical feminists) have bought into the whole victimhood idea that also plagues many in the minority community.
That's the reason that many people are bristling so much at the Palin selection--she got where she did by intelligence, competence and hard work, glass ceilings be damned. And she did it without help from the government. This scares a lot of people whose livelihood (whether literal or ideological) depends on government handouts and a prolonged culture of victimhood.
(Ugh. "Stumping" -- that sounds so wrong when you're talking about shoes...)
Too close to schtuping?
Get those guys a Genius Grant.
Maybe I'm too much a city boy but I like those guys because I can't really tell what side they're on.
Yeah, they're parodying rednecks--but it's exactly the sort of stuff that my redneck buddies laugh at.
I don't watch 'em much, but I loved it when the old guy almost burnt the set down after Fred dropped out.
I might find it funnier if the guy on the right could keep his accent straight.
(We Southerners know the real thing)
I might find this funnier if there were another show, say with a couple of white guys in black face, acting like idiots while mouthing every offensive stereotype of African Americans that anyone's ever thought of.
But I guess that wouldn't be as funny as something making fun of southern or Appalachian white men.
Again, it's not that I don't appreciate this sort of humor -- just look at the picture I use for my profile (that's "militia fail", in case it's too small to recognize). But it's a little offensive when it comes from someone clearly outside the group being made fun of (I'm looking at you, guy on the right), and it's a little tiresome that this self-deprecation always seems to some from the same group, and never another.
Pasta--
Thankfully, it's not just white guys any more, I think. Dave Chappelle did a marvelous bit about blacks getting reparations and running through all the stereotypes, just for a relatively recent example.
Blake -- This was the first result for a Google search of "Chappelle reparations": http://www.jibjab.com/view/140957
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but this seems more to be a lampoon of people who harbor these stereotypes, than it is a send-up of people who might act them out. I mean, Chappelle is actually in white-face here. So I don't know if this really counts to even out the score.
But it is pretty funny. I wonder why Chappelle isn't on television anymore.
That's a fair point, actually. But it's not untouchable territory amongst minority comedians. (And, yeah, everyone gets to make fun of the white folk.)
Chappelle went cuckoo, as far as I can tell. He pretty much could write his own ticket, but instead he went to Africa and started talking about "The Man".
Dude, when a network will do whatever you want to keep you on the air, you are The Man.
