It's Betsey Johnson, talking about fashion.
Several points:
1. I used to buy Betsey Johnson clothes when they were at Paraphernalia (which she left in 1969). Does anyone else remember shopping for clothes at Paraphernalia in the Betsey Johnson days? I loved that stuff.
2. I love the version of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" that plays at the end of the video.
3. Betsey has worked out a really nice image for herself as an aging woman. It's almost clownish, but it suits her. I could get my hair cut like that. What stops me?
4. "She lived in the Chelsea Hotel in the late '60s. Edie Sedgwick was her house model. She became a friend-of-Andy. She designed the costumes for 'Ciao, Manhattan.' She made velvet suits for the Velvet Underground. She made Lou Reed's pants too big in the crotch, provoking his anger. She married John Cale, making matters worse. She shocked the fashion establishment. She hung out at Max's Kansas City. She shocked the fashion establishment at Max's Kansas City. She played Yoko Ono to Lou Reed's Paul. She broke up the Velvet Underground."
5. She reminds me a little of Susan Estrich.

Maturity? (As in being a real, live grownup.)
Or maybe the fact that you have a real job that carries real responsibility?
You should've just tagged this post "Maxine Weiss"

If you're not being ironic, you're one hell of a killjoy and a prig.
Was that Susan Estrich thing a shot? You are being very coy Pussy
Galore. Very coy indeed.

You are stopped by the knowledge that the same look can be achieved instantly by buying a joke wig at modest cost at any costume shop. Unlike a haircut, the wig can be tossed immediately after you get home from the theme party.
Ann, I am not wounded. I'm not even close.
The Betsey Johnson/John Cale thing is an interesting conundrum, but not the thing that fractured the Velvet Underground. As my late friend R. Quine could/would have told you. I slink away from you not because I'm scared of or intimidated by you, but because I regret being tempted to deal with you in the first/second/third place. The Althouse vortex, as you have deemed it, can only suck up those who engage it. I congratulate you on creating a perfect world for yourself. But that is, finally, all you have done...and I imagine it must suffice for you.
Looks like Sally Kellerman...
Should we play that sad walking away music like in the Incredible Hulk when Bruce Banner had to leave another town.....so sad....so...sad.
I could get my hair cut like that. What stops me?
Your inability or unwillingness to do cartwheeels down the aisles of your classroom wearing a tutu with your braids flapping.
So much for the company of Glenn.

Similar improbable mouth to head ratio.
Wait a minute, that's how Professor Madow starts every class in Brooklyn Law. That's his trademark.
I'm a little slow on the trigger tonight. Maybe I should use two hands.
Glenn Kenney at 1:32 PM today: "Okay, I'm splitting now. Won't be back."
Glenn Kenny at 7:54 today: "Ann, I am not wounded. I'm not even close."
Good! Cuz it'd be scary if you were close.

Kenney's a walking contradiction, heading outta here to go someplace where he can quaff a big glass o' regret. Will he ever return? No, he won't be back! He's never coming back! You heard him at 1:32, but he had to come back this one time to correct that factual assertion from some ancient edition of Salon and to say that he really, really means it when he says he is not coming back. And to say what a pathetic lowly creature I am. Which is why he will not, not, not come back ever, ever, ever.

On some lonely beach, an inflatable porpoise is missing its helium.
The cool people, --the popular girls wore Holly Harp.
Glenn Kenney is one of Susan Estrich's operatives.
I would embrace Estrich if I were you.
You need her more than she needs you.
Love,
Maxine
Johnson is not the way to look. Her makeup is terrible, and her hair is ugly. She needs to blend her eyeliner. Go over that line with a Q-tip, smudge it, then blend for about 5-minutes with a brush, maybe 10 minutes.
And that's a horrible color on her lips. She needs neutrals, or soft pinks.
The whole think is just too harsh and severe.
Hard to believe that's how anybody would want to look.
Here's who Althouse should emulate. This woman below has a softness and real glamour, and her hair is much neater and styled beautifully.

If you want to copy anyone, copy that link, above, and do what she does.
Cool way to age, my ass. She looks as scary-desperate as Gloria Swanson in "Sunset Boulevard," but in a fright wig. "I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille . . . "
The song is Come on Petunia by Blow (it's in the credits of the video clip). They use the Police lyrics in the chorus. Good song.
Yiiiiiiiipe!
Good grief... is that woman the love child of Dee Snyder and Linda Hogan? Or is it a look at a deranged Daryl Hannah in 15 years?

Link? You mean, like, hyperlink? Sweetie pie, honey bunch, that is not a link.
It's an address.
Maxine, that video is hilarious.
Those of you who disagree with me about Betsey should realize that she is very successful selling her ideas of how women should look.

I don't doubt that, professor, it's just that, when I see the first few frames of her, I can't help but think she's one eyestripe away from being in the remake of Blade Runner.
Sorry! Can't help it that my first thought was "Oh, a replicant!"...
Hey everybody, I just found the lost episode of AbFab.
I went to Paris in Bermudas.
Betsey's eccentric.
If she had been unsuccessful, however, she'd be called crazy. Not pushing-a-grocery-cart junk-house-with-78-cats crazy, but local-character-with-unsold-paintings-and-on-the-local-theater-board crazy. I mean, she cleans up and everything.
Money buys you the right to be a lunatic.
Good for her.
Crazy like a fox.
The tune "Hello Dolly" started running through my mind when I saw her. Carol Channing channeled??
