The student politics in the snow was all Obamatude.
No Hillarity around these parts.
AND: There's snow writing like this everywhere:
Go ahead, kids. Write on the snow with blue or red paint. No yellow!

May I just go on record as saying that Ann's earlier post --
Why I'm voting for Obama in the Wisconsin primary --
is the single shallowest thing I've ever read?
Seriously -- it makes "The Rules" seem like "The Critique of Pure Reason."
Thank you.
Obama better hope the children don't find a shiny new fad before November.
Snow writing : are they feeding the dogs methylene blue?
The Yellow Stream, by I. P. Daily.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Obama better hope the children don't find a shiny new fad before November.
Are you kidding? I'm sure as soon as the icicles start melting, those Obama signs will be replaced with STOP GLOBAL WARMING!!
I'm figuring that the 'youth' vote will be out in force with their usual 15% turnout.
Urine big trouble now, ricpic
It is good and healthy to see young people participating in the process. If they participate and vote, it will be a plus.
I remember working to lower the voting age back when I was in college. It was one of the few times that partisanship was put on the shelf. Kids and adults from all political beliefs- some even, shall we say, insane, participated to allow eighteen year olds to vote. It was excting and there was a sense of purpose, direction and accomplishment.
I agree Middle Class Guy. Let's get the same coalition together to lower the drinking age to 16. If you are old enough to get married you should be old enough to get drunk.
I grew up in Waunakee Wisconsin which is about 5 miles north of Madison. While in high school I was in Madison all the time.
I never thought of Madison as some big liberal place.
Yes the area from the capitol to the UW has funky stores but so do many other cities with large colleges.
Once you leave the paremeters of the UW you hit strip mall city. The West Side is somewhat yuppy with strip malls, the ugly beltline and loads of franchise restaurants. The East Side is a dump-East Washington could be a gorgeous entrance to the capitol but instead it is nasty and again with fast food galore. The North Side is ugly and the South Side is uglier.
Some compare Madison to Berekley or Cambridge. I disagree. Berekley and Cambridge are incredibly condensed cities with people living on top of each other in very small apartments. You can walk everywhere in those cities. It is hard to find a fast food joint in Berekley or Cambridge. And Berkeley and Cambridge have people that make quite a bit more money than in Madison. It would be very difficult to live in either city making under 75k a year. Madison's population is predominately the under 75k comp. citizens.
If you want to see how liberal Madison is go to East Towne or West Towne or Westgate or Hilldale. Those places are very Wisconsin. Not trendy, not "lattish", and definitely not liberal.
Sorry I spelled berkeley wrong before I get nailed.
Verily I sayeth unto you: he who misspells Berkeley shall be hog tied (and then, nailed).
If you want to see how liberal Madison is go to East Towne or West Towne or Westgate or Hilldale. Those places are very Wisconsin. Not trendy, not "lattish", and definitely not liberal.
You ain't been to Hilldale lately, have you Titus?
Also, if you want to see how liberal Wisconsin is come to my family gatherings.
The topics of conversation are: the packers, the badgers, the crops-predominately the size of the corn that year, some barn being painted, someone who is thinking about getting a new truck, snowmobiles, three wheelers, the best fish fry around-usually at some church, the weather, uncle teddy's snowblower, mowing the grass, chopping wood, the price of gas, the price of milk, the price of corn, coupons that we are going to be using for our future meal and the brewers.
During those meals I tend to not be able to contribute much because most the time I have no idea what they are talking about.
I was at Hilldale during last Christmas.
Sorry, it is not fabulous.
Although I did enjoy going to that toy store across from Macys.
Do they still have that Wollenberg's store at Hilldale? Is that the name? It has to one of the most depressing mens stores I have ever been. There is no one ever there and the employees are at least 80.
fstop: She's not really for Obama!
She just hates Hillary and knows that McCain has the nomination.
That lame faux endorsement wss positioning for the day when she finally writes the "Why I'm Voting for McCain" post.
And that psot is probably already written, but she will hem and haw and pretend it's all a very difficult decision.
I agree it's not fabulous, but it has become very "lattish".
Titus to Wisconsin: more tinsel, more twinkliness, now everybody, up on your toes!
Oh other topics that are also very important during my family gatherings.
Hunting and Fishing.
I do know all the Wisconsin "fish".
Trout, Walleye, Northern, Bass, Perch, Bluegill, the mighty Muskie (state fish-they can be mean my father tells me), carp (a gross fish), sturgeon (my father has taken me to some dam to look at them-big fish), sunfish (the bluegills gay relation), crappy (spelling),
Then there is are annual pilgrimage to go look at deer. My parents have a cottage north of Madison by Portage in a small town by the prison where Jeffrey Dahlmer stayed. I think the area has more deer living their than people.
I know when the deer come out of the woods. What time they feed. When they have babies. When the males go into "felt"-I think is the word. When the males lose their rack. I have seen the doe. I have seen the 8 point buck. I have seen the fawn. I have seen dead deer on the road. I have seen deer run out in front of my car. I have seen deer spread eagle on every automobile imaginable. I have eaten deer steaks, sausage (which is actually very good), hamburger, barbecue and beef jerky.
I know my deer.
"Titus to Wisconsin: more tinsel, more twinkliness, now everybody, up on your toes!"
I dont want that for Wisconsin. I like it just the way it is.
My point is that is Madison is not that liberal.
I lived in Cambrige for 7 years and Cambridge is very liberal.
Sorry I type fast and misspell.
Cambridge-now nail me.
By the way my entire family voted for Hilary. They are also big union people.
They are old school democrats.
None of them can pronounce Barack's name and they are all suspicious of the black men.
My sense is they would vote for Mccain before the vote for a black man.
Any predictions who is going to Wisconsin tonight and by how much.
My prediction is that it will be pretty close.
Obama 52 Hilary 48

Oh, I don’t know. That whole twenty one thing never stopped me when I was sixteen. And, I’m too old now to get that fired up about anything, except people who beep their horns at me or rude and inconsiderate yuppies.
I deal with horn beepers by driving as slow as I can. It really pisses them off. As to rude and inconsiderate yuppies, I just berate them with excedingly foul language. That shocks them. No one ever talked to them like that or yelled at them. Poor babies.
Now I could get fired up about banning horns on cars. They are annoying, they are never used for their purpose- emergencies- and the people that use them are insane. I say ban car horns!
It would be hard to ban rude and inconsiderate people. That whole capital punishment thing ya knwo.

Oh, I know. But I still think the post was the shallowest thing I've ever read, and given the shallow stuff Ann grinds out on a daily basis, that's really saying something.
Heh heh....
I'm pretty sure Woldenburg's is still at Hilldale. I agree that it's a lousy store for men. I generally avoid Hilldale altogether 'cause I'm still mad that they took away my Marshall Fields!
I misread Cambridge as Cambridge WI. Who knew it was so liberal down there!
There was a lively debate on the bus yesterday that I half-listened to. They were talking about the age of the candidates and whether age meant meaningful experience (These were youngsters). I had to disembark for my Ian's Pizza fix before I heard the conclusion.

1. "Those aren't spirit fingers, these are spirit fingers!!
2. Hasn't 'fabulous' been replaced by 'fierce'? Or is that just one gay guy on Project Runway?
3. According to the Rules of Climate Change (FKAGW*), all possible weather patterns can be blamed on Climate Change. Cold . Warm. Hot. Rain. Snow. Ice. Tornados. No tornados. Doesn't matter. It's irrefutable.
4. What election dirty tricks can the Democrats do to each other? Will Hillarians slash Obama tires like Dems did for the GOP?

Sadly, I have to agree. You keep reading and reading and reading, and finally get to this: "As I said above, I haven't liked her, but I pictured myself voting for her anyway — back when she was inevitable. But Obama's growing power allowed me to cast off my resignation." So she was going to vote for Hillary because Hillary was inevitable--that has to be the most vacuous reason for voting I've ever heard.
As for Hilldale, it's gone well beyond liberal, all the way to Stalinesque--the movie theatre there has assigned seating!
is the single shallowest thing I've ever read?
Sadly, I have to agree.
What? It's just thinking with the other side of your brain, following different interests, letting complexity in.
Whenever it culminates in a decision, it will always seems sudden and unsupported.
They name storms after women.
But they has a long track across the Caribbean, actually.
And the fact is that women are not uncomfortable with partial information. I mean, it's not a crisis for them, not that they couldn't use more information if they had it.
Some weather underground will be able to compile the historical tracks of women, and come up with predictive capability.
The guys are not better off than this, but just have nothing to report, to speak of. And they're stuck because both Hillary and Obama suck.
The trajectory given either has value or it doesn't, which will depend on something else in the end.
Isn't painting the snow all anti-environmental?
Trooper - maybe it'd be better to lower the drinking age to 16, and raise the marriage age to 31. Both would have helped correct bad decision making earlier in my life.
Obama is the new iPhone. Just another sparkly gimmick.
That poster bugs the hell out of me.
Here you can see a close up of it at his store-
link
Although at the store it has a different title.
Has a politician ever had a poster with a picture of himself hovering over posters for himself in the background of the picture with the caption-
I'm for Barack aka himself. (qualifier-in America)?
Honestly.
While I am at it-
Obama referencing Republicans that support him as "Obamacans" has a politican ever self labeled a group like that?
Did Reagan contemporaneously refer to Democrats that supported him before his election as-Reagan Democrats?
If you are old enough to get married you should be old enough to get drunk.
It would be the height of cruelty to allow the former without the latter.
Nels, that was pretty damn funny. A good laugh.
