Ho.

Don.

Died.

Can anyone get the seemingly obvious joke just right? Apparently, not.

A man died, people. Show some respect. Or don't. But if you can't come up with a good joke at least, go with the respect for the dead angle. That's my recommendation.

Don Ho!

'Top Of The Waikiki' circa 1968 saw legendary Don Ho, the Hawaiian Dean Martin, crooning HUA LI'I to the haoles and Kamaainas as the restaraunt slowly turned 360 degrees at sunset and into the wee hours.

Many military on R and R sat next to vacationing couples and locals as they dined on surf and turf, some of the finest reef fish in the world, and drinks like mai tai's and Singapore Slings.

Soft tropical breezes, Don Ho singing, walks along Kalakaua Ave., and the International Marketplace.

It won't be the same! 'Moonlight Lady' with 'Lovely Hula Hands' after 'Tiny Bubbles' were the original signature Ho!

Thanks for the memories and RIP!

I posted about the search engine irony of this (at least the Googlebot aspect of it).....I noticed the hit in my stat counter and checked it, and sure enough.....there it was.....

I also posted a humorous YouTube "Shock the Monkey" video Don did a few years back in tribute last night :)

I seem to have heard that everyone that ever visited Hawaii in the last 50 years saw a Don Ho show.

It's good to see some one put the usage of Ho back where it belongs.

I also remember when he sang the Star Spangled Banner and caused all that controversy for not singing it the regular way. . . oh, wait . . .

. . . he's not the blind guy that plays the guitar is he?

I also heard that Don Ho was Francis Ford Coppola's first choice to play Don Corleone.

Lastly, I truly do believe that it would be a fitting honor at the serices to get that guy that announces Latin Soccer games with "Gooooooooooooooallll" to yell out, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Don Hoooooooooooooooooooooooo!"

Don Ho came up at dinner tonight. Father-in-law is Hawaiian. Still has relatives on the islands and those on the mainland make many trips back. Doesn't know anyone who ever saw a Don Ho show. No type of inference meant, just interesting. Other than maybe he was one of those treasured local landmarks that only the tourists went to.

bill - Definitely someone only the tourists went to see. But one that the locals liked, just never appreciated his brand of entertainment.

And, a really nice guy. I met him once when I auditioned at the Hula Hut - at 14 - and got the job. For some reason, Mom was opposed to her 14 year old dancing in tacky costumes at night in a sort of bar. Go figure! :P So, I never got to take the job. So, I've never actually seen his show either.

Jeremy came up with the palindrome angle:

Oh no! Don Ho!
