Twilight on Bascom Hill

I've always been intrigued how the Bascom Hill mall and State Street do not align in a perfect axis. It's as if planners meant to imply that there is no perfectly straight (commercial) link between higher education and government.

Mr. Snowpack? You may leave any time now.

I've noticed it too. It's because it would look silly to put a building next to the highest point on a hill. The green runs from State St. to the top of the hill, which isn't perfectly west.

You went into jail in the summer. It is fall now. You will have stories to cover -- Iraqi elections and suicide bombers, biological threats and the Iranian nuclear program. Out west, where you vacation, the aspens will already be turning. They turn in clusters, because their roots connect them. Come back to work -- to life.

Is all that snow evidence that you Wisconsin folks are dutiful in purchasing your carbon offsets and have avoided global warming?

Ruth Anne: I was wondering how long it would take before anyone, i.e., you, noticed.

Realigning State Street to be a straight line between the Capitol and Abe Lincoln sounds like a good platform for some student government candidate.

I have read that snow in shadow is the color of the sky, and it certainly is more evident in photography than in real life. I guess real artists know this or figure it out and apply it in their art instinctively. I still reach for the blue crayon to draw water even if the sky is grey, so what do I know. It's nice to see a comment thread with relatively few obnoxious and ignorant comments (I won't name names - you don't know who you are!), and I always enjoy the Madison photography.
