"A cure for snakebites, jaundice, and wretchedness."
That was the idea the monks had in the 16th century when they first cooked up creme de cassis. We just wanted to make Kir Royales, but, on reflection, it seems like a good idea to have something on hand in case of wretchedness.

I've always believed that it's good to have a health-based reason for drinking. Screwdrivers to ward off scurvy, gin and tonics for malaria, red wine for your heart, martinis for ... well, they link all your neurotransmitters together and make you (temporarily) understand the universe. I really appreciate your now giving me something for wretchedness and snakebite, for the days when my malaria and scurvy are under control, and my brain is already thinking clearly.
Merry Christmas Eve, everyone!
And it's pretty good on ice cream too.
You can't go wrong with a Kir Royale. One thing you might want to try is a Pear Wine - which goes great with Holiday deserts. I was just introduced to it a few weeks ago - supposedly it's been popular in France for a while.
And it looks like it has been around since the time of Christ.
