Beneficence, Oprah-style.
Oprah Winfrey builds a $40 million school for poor girls in South Africa, then goes there and interviews the applicants, and to let them know if they got in, sets up a classically Oprah-esque scene of mass emotion. Don't miss the video.

Notice how chameleon-like Oprah is: she often sounds like the people she's interviewing.
Circle of life. Bully for her.
Hey, if she's giving 40 million of her own money, I'm not complaining. Even if the buildings are shaped to form her name in giant block letters.
Good for her. At least she's letting her money do some good work.
But...what's wrong with setting up scholarship programs for kids right here in the US? And what's her stand on vouchers so kids in the cities can choose their own schools?
As there's no coffee-house on which to post this, apologies in advance:
Are you planning on simul/TIVO-blogging the Emmys tonight?
joated,
Is it not possible to do good without sharing your political views and preferring Americans in one's beneficence over all others?
"Are you planning on simul/TIVO-blogging the Emmys tonight?"
I've actually set the TiVo, and I'm probably going to do something, but I'm uninterested in nearly every category. I just want Lisa Kudrow to win.
Ugh... Well, isn't it nice that a country falling apart in slow motion is little more than a stage set for The Big O's ego?
"little more than a stage set for The Big O's ego"
That's an pretty unkind characterization of a quite remarkable act of personal generosity. I'd say of all the things Oprah could do with her fame and wealth, funding a new school for underprivileged South African girls to the tune of $40 million is deserving praise, not contempt.
