"I love '24.' I watch it all the time."

John McCain, just now, on "The Daily Show."

24 is ludicrous and logically inconsistent. It is tricksy, and written by cowardly writers with no respect for the viewer. Sadly, McCain is ludicrous and logically inconsistent and cowardly when he hugs Bush after Bush attacked his family. And McCain is tricky with no respect for his constituents when he pushes for a torture amendment, but won't call what happened at Abu Ghraib torture.

So it all seems to fit.

He's awful as a comic. And as a politician, he's being comical. Ick.

That show rocks.

Offtopic, but related: the logically inconsistent, cowardly, and ludicrous Intelligent Designers won in Court today but lost at the polls. A clean sweep, 8 Evolutionary Dems in, 8 Creationish Thugs out in Dover.

So.... What will happen now? If the school board rescinds their current policy, will creationist thugs start looking for conservative activist courts?

If the Republican Party present me with a fait accompli in 2008, and I have to vote for John McCain for President, versus whichever person the Democrats traipse out as their candidate, I will be a VERY unhappy camper.

I cannot stand McCain. He gives me mange.

Cheers,
Victoria

Whoops, correction. The forces of evil won in the school board in Kansas, not (yet at any rate) in the Court of PA, thank g-d.

Oh, no fear VB, your candidate will be President Condi running for her first elected term in office.

VB? That was a mistake, because I think I know who you are now, troll boy.

Well, sorry, but you're wrong on both counts. I'm not a troll, and you don't know who I am. I can understand why you would think it would be bizarre for someone to shorten your name from vbspurs to vb. But before you "out" who you are thinking of outing, well, you're wrong, so be wise!

Anyway, Preznit Condi will go down because voters won't like her description of the 8/6/01 PDB, or her mishandling of the economy in 06 and 07. But she did make history, especially when she came out in 09.

Victoria, you should ease up on Quxxo. The programming is improving, but still not perfected. The Quxxo Program will pass the Turing Test yet!

Looking at the preceding comments, it might not the coolest thing to admit, but I think McCain is great. He has a good sense for pop culture too. Also, he came to my campus during the '00 primaries and was the only candidate who would joke with us on camera, for our student comedy tv show. Bill Bradley was real mean to us, incidentally.

McCain is always great on "Late Night w/Conan O'Brien," so I like that about him. Is that superficial, yes? However, Conan's skits did allow him the opportunity to say, "Nowadays in the military, it's 'Don't ask, don't tell.' Back when I was in Vietnam, it was, 'I'm scared, let's spoon.'"
Is he the right guy for the presidency? Not unless the media is voting, according to what I keep reading everwhere.
But does that same inconsistency and entertainment value make him an senator who commands attention whenever he speaks on an issue? Absolutely.

Hey Ann, Kevin Drum has linked to you a couple of times now, and I think it is time for you to return the love, especially over as serious an issue as this: BUSH'S WAR ON PEOPLE OF FAITH....Today we learn that Bush's IRS is investigating a prominent liberal Episcopal church because of a sermon last fall in which the minister condemned Bush's policy in Iraq. (No word on whether the agency is also going after the Baptist church that kicked out members who voted for John Kerry. Or the churches that helped out the Bush/Cheney campaign last year by sending in their membership directories. Or the Catholic priests who told parishioners it would be a sin to vote for Kerry.)

I implore you, Ann Althouse, moderate, to link to Amy's post at Drum's and discuss your views.

Why is Bush intimidating Democratic Church's?

I think McCain is trying too hard to be cool and to be president.

And if you want to watch a really riveting TV mini-series about terrorism, rent The Grid, from the producers of Traffik.

Alas, I tried to watch Daily Show last night and was turned off by his oft-repeated first joke: isn't Bush stupid?

*'sigh* How the mighty have fallen.

"I know a lot of Democrats who would vote for McCain."

My point exactly.

(Hey, you walked into that one!) :)
