The Amsterdam Notebooks—Page 27.
It's Day 27 of this 35 day project. (The set thus far.) Yesterday, I felt deprived of language. Today, at the Stedelijkmuseum, I suddenly encounter a way too much language. This is a video installation with two TVs playing simultaneously and continuously. I've written in the audio portion in comics fashion:

George - I suspect art shall remain inscrutable to one who seeks "meaning" rather than appreciation from its depiction.
Ann - By "deprived of language" do you mean deprived of words? After all, the interior language of art communicates a great deal (and your art speaks volumes)...
ALH: Yes, I was deprived of (English) words in my Amsterdam environment. I spent a lot of time in the visual mode and enjoyed that. But at some point I was hungry for words.
I wonder if that exhibit was also shown in Chicago. I remember seeing something almost exactly like it there about fifteen years ago.
