Just 4 TikToks tonight. Let me know what you like best.

1. Ohio's new slogan.

2. Confronted by bears, this worked.

3. The hellbender.

4. The self-aware narcissist.

I don't like tag proliferation, so I'm using "motto" here, even though the words on the sign are more of a transitory *slogan* and not the official motto (which is "With God, all things are possible").

It's like the way New York has (or had) "I love New York" as a slogan, but the actual motto is "Excelsior."

Virginia's motto is certainly not "Virginia is for lovers." It's "Sic semper tyrannis."

Montana just changed it's state motto from "Oro Y Plata" to "Use your fucking turn signal!"

Ohio slogan: the province of Manitoba in Canada had a tourist campaign: every place has got to be someplace. Manitoba is someplace else.

The University of Guelph in Canada (maybe mentioned in the movie about Canadians rescuing Americans in Tehran): Discover yourself. At Guelph.

Does The Silicon Valley (and Boston ( and Austen Tx)) know that all the IT is now in Ohio?
I guess those tech geeks can work remote?

Nebraska has been using, “Nebraska, it’s not for everybody.”

Still time for Althouse and Meade to visit.

Whoever came up with "find it here" was unaware of "its always in the last place you look."

I guess I liked the bear one best. Ohio was good, though.

#2 Not sure what worked. Was it the whistling or the body odors?

If anyone wants to learn more about narcissists (so you'll know to run away), self-aware English one HG Tudor has posted dozens of youtubes explaining not-aware Meghan Markle's actions. He goes through two recent books about her and Ginge. Some of his commentary is quite funny, but it also reminds me of my late step-monster, who wreaked havoc in our family for 24 years.

The best thing to do in Nebraska? Leave.

That's one of the things I've always thought I'd try with a bear. The classic response is to raise your canoe paddle over your head.

He didn't have a paddle.

Last resort is the 'pointy stick'.

That's what a ranger here said to do if bears were encountered. He said not to take that approach with grizzlies though.

Confronted by bears -- confronted? They pass on the road, going the opposite way. This worked -- and someone a few steps behind the bears videoed it; evidently that works too.

The substitution of a heart icon for the V in "lovers" always makes me read the sign as saying "Virginia is for losers".

I always thought it was "Virgina Is For Louvers".

Well, there are none so blind. Ooh, that makes me shutter.

I love hellbenders, but they're really hard to find. Largest species of North American salamander, their numbers are dwindling, but some repopulation efforts seem to be helping.

Also, they're sometimes called a "snot otter", I can't imagine there are too many animal names cooler than that.

Now if you wanna see a *really* big salamander, check out the Japanese or Chinese giant salamander.

I liked the Heendemic to the eastern and central United Statesllbender. I looked it up on wikipedia, and it lists it as "Near Endangered" and "Endemic to the eastern and central United States." Apparently endemic has a different meaning than the one I was familiar with.

The self-aware narcissist is my favorite. It could be thematically related to the hellbender.

Found it here. Buried it in W. Va.

Bears: I have done this when confronted with a rearing stallion (as I was crossing his field not knowing he was there). It worked. Also with dogs, plus soothing talk.
Hellbender: largest salamander in North America.
Narcissist: never seen an honest one before. Wow.

My thoughts exactly.
