"The British man shot dead in the Texas synagogue siege was investigated by MI5 in late 2020, Whitehall sources confirmed to The Times."

"Malik Faisal Akram, 44, was the subject of a 'short lead investigation' for at least four weeks.... The authorities were already facing questions about why Akram was able to travel to the US, where he purchased a handgun, given he had a criminal record for offences including violence... Akram, from Blackburn, who once ranted about the September 11 attacks, was part of MI5’s pool of 40,000 closed subjects of interest.... The case was closed before it progressed to a full-blown inquiry involving intrusive techniques such as eavesdropping.... When he travelled to the US in late December, Akram was not on the Home Office warnings index, the watchlist that allows police at airports to intercept would-be passengers of concern. Sources said that it would be 'disproportionate' for someone assessed as being no threat to be on the list."

I'm sure you've read elsewhere that the rabbi engineered the escape — which involved throwing a chair at the armed hostage-taker. I like this justifiably proud statement by the rabbi, Jeffrey Cohen: "We escaped. We weren’t released or freed."

Now that he's dead, the FBI is all over it.

"The British man shot dead" does not give the same impression as "the British man of Palestinian descent who took hostages in a synagogue," does it?

Biden is allowing terrorists and criminals into the US. This isn’t on the Brits. It is on Joe Fucking Biden.

to even Ask such questions, is to commit RACISM!!!
any (and ALL) people of color, Must be allowed Free Entry in this amerikkka or it will never change

No Border!

So, if they escaped, WHY did the FBI kill the terrorist?? Another cover up?? At this point, we must question everything.

The government can somehow figure out parents at a school board meeting, are worthy of investigation, but a terrorist deserve the benefit of the doubt.

I recall George Papadopolus was detained at Dulles late at night looking for cash, that he wisely left back in Greece. But this guy skates through with never a blink. The point is, DoJ FBI has plenty of manpower, they are just too busy operating as the Democrat Party Stazi.

Airsoft gun perhaps?

Bravo to Rabbi Cohen for engineering the escape.
If the hostages weren’t in play any longer, why did the FBI kill the shooter? Wouldn’t it have been good to be able to interrogate him?

So the FBI lied again.

Foreign nationals on tourist visas cannot buy guns legally, in general. There are some exceptions but one would presume that the ATF would have to contact the UK and his criminal history would have precluded a purchase.

More likely there was a planned source here in the US, who had a gun available for his use. Even if it can be identified to a legal purchaser, most likely it would have been reported as stolen.

Conservative Tree Housa has a long piece tying this to the FBI, starting with the Garland example and going down quite a list.

I will allow that the Islamic Terrorist possibly committed suicide by FBI.

But I would not believe it unless the FBI provided videos.

At this point the administration has lied about everything and been caught doing it in very inept fashion.

The index was too short. The assessment was wrong. The authorities in the UK, as here, are afraid of appearing islamophobic. so err on the side of coddling Muslims. The default in assessing threats needs to change.

Hey people, lighten up. Homeland Security is busy tallying the Latino Transgender Baptist to Catholic conversions for their boss. Like many have told you, you are on your own. So, as Sgt Phil Esterhaus used to say... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2QApwtE8zQ

Convenient that the suspect was shot dead...

Why did the Rabbi let him into the building?! When a stranger shows up at Jewish services, SOP is for a greeter to chat him up, ask him why he came, how he knew about the synagogue etc. Wrong answer --> press the (literal) panic button for police or social service agency, depending. A synagogue is not a homeless shelter.

Look at how the British government has responded to rampant child abuse by Muslim men.

don't know the exact topology, but I can envision the gunmen turning away as the chair is throw, hostages running for a door with gunman in pursuit.

hostages, yelling, make it through the door, waking up the LEOs. They, hostages, clear the door, and the gunman appears in frame. 20 shots and the gunman falls dead, hit twice.

they (FBI) used to all be lawyers and accountants

Great question. I didn't easily find an answer.

Jeffrey Cohen was one of the hostages and made the great statement Althouse quotes, but the chair-throwing rabbi was Charlie Cytron-Walker. In Cohen’s account of their escape, the gunman followed them out the door, but then went back inside, and after that the FBI breached the synagogue. Video recorded at the scene supports that account.

There is about a 30 second gap between when the gunman reentered the building and the first sounds of gunfire and/or flashbangs. It’s fair to surmise that whatever plan the FBI had went a bit out the window when the three hostage unexpectedly emerged from the building. It looks like the initial report that the 3 remaining hostages were rescued came from the Colleyville Police Chief, not the FBI.

Ann Althouse: "Great question. I didn't easily find an answer."

Oh, there are lots of answers, easy answers really, but those answers could make some people uncomfortable.

Known islamic supremacist terrorist type somehow gets a visa, flies to the US and clears Customs (!), flies to Texas, buys a gun "off the street" (wink wink) in Dallas, heads out to a small town and finds the only synagogue around "them thar parts" and waltzes in, takes hostages, and demands the release of another islamic supremacist crazy (democratical ally).

I suggest one spends just a minute or 2 to review the FBI's "performance" in the 2015 Garland Texas set up deal where the FBI-ers literally drove the islamic terrorists to the terrorist action site.

Literally.

From Salon magazine:

"Tear up Texas": How the FBI played a central role in the first ISIS attack on U.S. soil"

12 of the 18 "plotters" (wink wink) in the Whitmer kidnapping hoax were FBI agents/informant-instigators including ALL the "planners" and "coordinators" and following a script from 2016 in the Hutaree Militia hoax case that was later thrown out completely.

Oh yes, there are some very clear, obvious and "easy" answers alright.........

so who was his contact in new york, who was his sherpa in dallas, who led him around, like the waukesha mauler, none of this is accidental

Drago said...

To answer Althouse's question more directly, I suspect the FBI was part of the coordination of this "event".

Similar to how the FBI/NSA/Homeland Security gave a visa to Natalia Veselnitskaya, even though she was not supposed to be able to get a visa to the US, so that Veselnitskaya could "meet" with Don Jr and the Trump campaign........though for some "odd" reason that I guess there are no "easy answers for" (wink wink) Veselenitskaya met personally with Glenn Simpson of Fusion GPS right before AND right after that Trump campaign meeting!

Gee, so many questions that don't have "answers".......................and yet its clear ALL those questions share the same answer........

....the very same answer.

Drago said...

Let's just say its going to be alot harder for that dead islamic supremacist terrorist to share details regarding who he met with and just who facilitated his "mission".

That's just awfully....convenient.

BTW, has the FBI arrested and/or threatened Hunter Biden's ex-wife yet in the same way the Perkins-Coie contracted thugs threatened women who accused democratical bigwigs and donors (hellooooo Harvey Weinstein) of being rapists and sexual assaulters?

Nah, probably still too busy making sure the Epstein evidence remains "lost" forever.

Drago said...

BTW, here's a blurb from that Salon article re: the Garland islamic terrorist attack that the FBI created and coordinated and implemented:

"In looking into what happened in Garland, we were surprised to discover just how close the FBI was to one of the terrorists," "60 Minutes" said in its March 26 broadcast, titled "Attack in Garland." "Not only had the FBI been monitoring him for years, there was an undercover agent right behind him when the first shots were fired."

That was after giving the terrorists weapons and driving them to the location.

Our FBI really is a "full service" organization, aren't they?

remember in san bernardino, the first real isis attack, (although it wasn't called that at the time) the bureau had the crime scene, open to the reporters to contaminate it, we never found out who farouk's wife was in contact with back in the kingdom (they had that cover story of how they fell in love, and the christian that did them wrong)

with mateen, it was convenient his father was an fbi informant, maybe that's why his trainer, who was one of the blind sheik's bodyguards, was never followed up as a lead, he worked for G4 which was a British Security contractor, whose board included a high ranking MI 6 operative who also became director, his Saudi ties on the hajj were also ignored,

I remember, growing up, when liberals had open contempt for the FBI. And conservatives were almost always on their side. I remember John Lennon singing at the end of a Beatles song (can't remember which), "And the FBI! And the CIA!" It was a default hostility. Liberals assumed the worst if the FBI was involved.

What changed? I'm not surprised that conservatives no longer trust the FBI. I'm right there with them. But I'm genuinely surprised that the FBI is now trusted by most liberals. It's not as if the FBI changed its stripes from when the libs were skeptical. Has there been any major news story recently involving the FBI, that did not expose them as at best untrustworthy, and at most criminal?

During that 30 seconds the agent who drove the terrorist to the terror site and gave him the gun got some friends to make sure the terrorist never told anyone who helped him get into the country is the most likely answer.

Mark Felt ousting Nixon. From that point on, the FBI has been viewed as a valuable weapon for the entrenched leftist deep throat -- er, state.

The most likely reason is that he is a good leftist reform rabbi and he didn’t want to be seen as being Islamophobic by refusing to let a Muslim looking man into the synagogue.

Since UK citizens don't require a visa to travel to the US, and his name isn't on any lists, how was the US supposed to keep this guy out? Kind of curious why law enforcement decided they needed to breach the building once the hostages were out. Who was endangered by just waiting him out at that point?
