"Brett Kavanaugh said Monday he was a virgin in high school and college..."

The full Kavanaugh interview will air at 7 Eastern on Fox News.

And, I'm listening to Fox News now and hearing Brit Hume saying something very close to what I said this morning. I said:
The new allegations — from Avenatti and The New Yorker — are, I think, helping Kavanaugh's case.... After all the careful work creating credence and empathy for Christine Blasey Ford, we now have an onslaught, a piling on, and it's making Kavanaugh into a sort of hero, who must stand his ground.
There was a problem when there was only Blasey's accusation, and it did seem that you'd need multiple accusations to take down Kavanaugh. Multiple accusations were needed to take down Weinstein, Matt Lauer, Charlie Rose, Alex Kozinski, etc. But this new material doesn't seem like more Blasey-like allegations, but something different and much more questionable and more noticeably unfair.

There's a real contrast to the carefully built up Blasey incident, and while the conflict with Blasey seemed to be too much of an unresolvable he said/she said, to say he said/she said was to elevate Blasey to equal status: her word against his. There was dignity in that, and Kavanaugh supporters were being circumspect and allowing that dramatic confrontation to unfold. Now, Kavanaugh antagonists have escalated the attack and seem willing — some of them, anyway — to use anything. I think more sober Kavanaugh antagonists — such as the NYT — rue this development.

ADDED: If the allegations are not true, Kavanaugh must stand his ground. If this effort to take him down works — if the allegations are not true — the same strategy will be used against the next nominee and the one after that. It will never end. If the allegations are true, he should have done something long ago. Either he should have have withdrawn, or he should have conceded his past wrongdoing, apologized sincerely, and said tactfully what he could to minimize the relevance of the incident to the question of his qualification to serve on the Court.

You give the NYT too much credit. They were more than happy to let another publication start the latest round of mud-throwing. Give them 24 hours, and they will start referencing those allegations as 'troublesome' or other such mealy-mouthiness. All kn the name of Progressivism.

The Blasey-Ford story has three versions.

1. In 2012, told the marriage therapist four guys (who are now "high profile DC" dudes) attacked her. No names.

2. In July, told the WaPo that it was four guys at the party, but only two guys (Kavanaugh and Judge attacked her).

3. Ten days ago, told the WaPo it was four people at the party. Three guys and one girl. Stuck with version two that Kavanaugh and Judge attacked her. The fourth guy vanished, replaced by her friend who says she never met Kavanaugh and doesn't remember any party like the one she described.

This is shifting bullshit story.

Avenatti's "ran the train" is bullshit, too, but more entertaining.

He's the Clown Prince of the Resistance

Jeezus! This is brilliant defense (much better than the disgusting evil doppelganger theory). But if Avenatti is telling the truth and Kavanaugh gets confirmed, then Kavanaugh gets impeached (maybe even Trump). No doubt about it. This stuff is nuclear.

Virginity explains Kavanaugh's excellent grades in high school and college. Senator Feinstein will no doubt grill Kavanaugh Thursday on whether he was a virgin because of his strict Catholicism. The Blasey-Ford story can't:

Tell you what Year and Month the "attack" took place;

Can't tell you WHERE the attack took place;

Can't tell you WHY she went to the Party and HOW She got home; and

Can't tell you HOW she knew Kavanaugh even thought they went to different schools and lived 10 miles apart.

HER STORY IS BULLSHIT. It always has been.

mccullough said...

Unless the 5 people at The Party broke into someone's house, The Party had to be at one of the following:

1. Ford's house

2. Kavanaugh's house

3. Judge's house

4. Smyth's house

5. Leland's house

Ford can't even figure out that one.

As a "survivor" by the left's definition, I cannot understand how she cannot remember any of this. combine this with the other four having no memory of this party even taking place, including the woman saying she didn't even know Kav, I find that there is just not enough 'evidence' here. And you can't just give her the 'benefit of the doubt' because you feel sorry for her or because you don't want this guy on the court.

Sorry Dr. Ford, there it is.

He just needs one vindictive ex-girl friend from high school or college to do him in. She doesn't even have to be vindictive. Just a committed Demcrat willing to tell a little white lie and exaggerate about a make out session........I know Kavanaugh is a public figure, but doesn't he have any legal recourse against the lies of Avenatti?........The virginity doesn't seem consistent with the success of his high school and college career, but, on the other hand, a lot of sexcess doesn't seem consistent with all his success either. It's hard to get straight A's and participate in drunken revels.

Usually it's women who falsely claim to be virgins! Virginity fraud is a big deal in Muslim countries (not so much here, not yet). This is getting very interesting. But Avenatti says he has a third woman who's complaining about gang rapes, etc. My head is spinning.

I don't really like how you phrased that, nonetheless ...

I worked my tail off in HS (class of 1971) to:

(1) make money;

(2) prepare for college and;

(3) get laid.

It was only with great effort and perseverance that I was able to accomplish all three goals. The vast majority of my classmates only accomplished one or two of these goals. Maybe they had different priorities.

From my perspective, it is the norm for HS boys to be virgins entering college. Most seemed to stay that way as freshman (just as my stepson has done). A lot more seem to get laid as sophomores. We are sort of hoping the kid gets laid this year, but he does not seem interested. He wants to save it until marriage.

There’s a terrific insight here that I never considered: “he said/she said” imparts a kind of equivalence to both “he” and “she.”

There are instances when evidence pro and con or even just accusations and denials in certain contexts make equivalence seem an apt characterization.

But all the frailties and subsequent undermining of Ford’s story make equivalence an unfair and pretty big, thumb on the scales tip of the them her way.

It’s more than “he said/she said.” It’s that plus what “she said” not bearing up well under reasonable scrutiny.

There is a lot of lawyerly/media/senatorial "fog" surrounding these "allegations."

And Foggy allegations tend to lack credibility. If Kavanaugh unsuccessfully tried to take her clothes off in a bedroom, she'd remember the year/location/house where it happened.

The gravitas of the NY Times and Washington Post is bullshit. No publication with serious standards would print a story about someone who said something happened in the early 1980s but can't say where and when it happened.

No law enforcement agency would take such an allegation very seriously. After a few questions when the story already starts shifting, any detective would just nod politely and ignore the complaint.

Rolling Stone magazine got hammered for millions because Jackie actually gave a date and location of her imaginary rape. So it was very easy to deny that it happened and have corroborating evidence (no party in the house that weekend).

Ford learned that lesson well. She isn't going to give a time, not even a fucking week or month. She's not even committing herself to say "summer of 1982."

She did finally settle on the four other people at the party at the Unknown House. The three guys denied it. Her friend denied it too. Said she didn't even know Kavanaugh.

Ford needs help. She's a nut.

No serious person would take her accusations seriously. It's the Dumbing Done of America.

The virgin stuff is brilliant; a guy who stays a virgin that long in that environment is not the guy depicted by Ford or the new one. And it makes the calendar stuff believable. Read Ms. Ford's high school year book (conveniently disappeared from online when she made her allegations, but captured elsewhere). They were all sleeping with everyone, and the women bragged about it. Had BK wanted to get laid he could have. Does anyone doubt that?
I was disappointed by Ed Whelan's twitter excitement the other day, but maybe he did have the correct answer to all of this.

But people were being nice to her because they assumed something bad happened to her. The Dems had to go with Kavanaugh doesn't deserve the presumption of innocence to pump up Ford's allegations.

Then the whole creepy circus came to town and it feels unfair and obviously political. A good reminder why we have the presumption of innocence.

Now normal people can dismiss the whole terrible show.

The Judge said his focus in HS was being number one in his class and being captain of the basketball team. Being number one at a Jesuit high school is very difficult and very time consuming. I saw it with the top 10-20 guys in my class. And very few of those guys played two varsity sports.

So just curious... if the allegations aren't true, we are informed about what Kavanaugh must do. He must stand his ground or this will be done again and again. Why would him standing his ground, or even his being confirmed, prevent it from happening again and again? The only consequence I'm seeing proscribed by Althouse is that BK must do something, but no word - is there even a thought? - to actually penalizing the woman who made up this story, or the Democrats who pushed it? Without consequences to THEM - instead of just what Kavanaugh "must" do - why would they stop doing it? Just because it didn't work this time doesn't mean it won't next time.

I'd like to hear what else has to happen if the allegations aren't true. A consequence for the people doing it. Doesn't that matter? Or is Kavanaugh the only one who has to deal with the consequences of false accusations?

They never, ever learn the Chicago Rules - they just cluck tongues in 'opinion pieces' virtually no-one reads but them. They spend all their time pleading their 'concern' for the lying accusers while they do not a damn thing to support and defend their accused. They are just begging their "base" to turn their back and simply go out to buy guns and water.

Qwinn,

Same comment I made to Quaester absent the earlier history.

Fivewheels laments: Honestly, I can't believe people are that stupid.

They are mind-controlled zombies. How it happened is uncertain but it's a little scary.

And then there are situations like this.

I've come to the conclusion that cruel neutrality and #MeToo-ism are mutually contradictory. Althouse is trying to square the circle in this Kavanaugh business. Have some chemical experiments she perhaps performed on herself in the Sixties returned in the form of erratic brain activity? Sad if true. They say Timothy Leary's brain conked out long before his body temperature went ambient.

"Or is Kavanaugh the only one who has to deal with the consequences of false accusations?"

lol, you're suggesting accountability for women. Ford, Ramirez or Feinstein. Magic 8-ball says "Not Fucking Likely."

Ha. I just used the phrase "squaring the circle" about this in the following post.

A lot of wood shavings to be seen of late.

I am Laslo.

In the movie about East Germany before the wall fell, The Lives of Others, the point is made by an interrogator that liars, i.e., the guilty, repeat their lies word for word, even under torture, and cry or laugh as they near breaking, then tell the truth. Honest people, i.e, the innocent, eventually break their story into more detail, and embellish or diminish aspects during retelling. Then they get mad at being interrogated, and angry as hell at the injustice of the accusations.

Which one is Ford doing? Which one is Kavanaugh doing?

"Now" they "seem" willing to use anything? WTF?

"I think more sober Kavanaugh antagonists — such as the NYT — rue this development."

Yeah, because even to the Kavanaugh-must-have-a-dark-side and Ford-is-believable-cuz-she-emotes Althouses the absurdity and malice are "now" obvious.

If only a nice little reasonable smear would have sufficed.

No doubt about it. This stuff is nuclear.

It's so nuclear that you re glowing in the dark. Let go !

I'm sure it is. You are one sick puppy.

“Carefully built up” sounds like it’s dishonest not genuine, but Althouse is arguing it’s the more genuine sounding charge. Is Althouse really so confused?

Ford named 4 witnesses. All say it did not happen. But Althouse wants to make this about sincerity. People sincerely believe faulty memories. Let me repeat the. People can sincerely believe their memories even when they are faulty.

This isn't going to end until November, just in time for the centenary of the end of WW I. Both sides fought up until the very end: The Great War didn't peter out -- it went out with a bang. Millions of shells were expanded and thousands of casualties happened in the last few hours. Both sides had to get the last shot in -- even though the end was known.

I just now wondered when our own fireworks finale traditional started. I don't mean the tradition of fireworks, but rather the way it traditionally ends. It certainly has always been that way in my living memory -- which only goes back to the middle '60's.

"listen, son-- let me give you some sound advice. Fuck women.
I mean that in every sense. Fuck 'em."

"But isnt that wrong? Wont that be hurtful to them and me?"

"What difference, at this point, does it make, son. See what happened to that Kavanaugh guy? Decent guy, kept his nose clean, worked his ass off all the way to the Supreme Court. Didnt matter. It wont matter for you, either. Dont think building a good character will save you. Some bitch will come out of the woodwork at the last minute with some crazy-ass shit about how you 'raped her' 50 years ago, and you're fucked. You're the one who's really fucked. And it wont matter she has no proof, and everyone who knows you says it aint true. You're fucked!"
So you may as well FUCK THEM before they fuck you.

Unless the 5 people at The Party broke into someone's house, The Party had to be at one of the following:

Bingo!

So, "Dr. Ford", which house was it?

Then let's compare the inside of their house, to her story.

I think it is highly possible that the scandalous and flimsy reports from Ronan Farrow and Michael Avanetti have damaged the credibility of Ford and made the entire process seem nothing more than a stunt. In fact, they have confirmed Kavanaugh.

Very possibly with their yelling wolf in a crowded theater they have blown things permanently so that no one will ever trust them again. Another Ted Bundy could be nominated and no one would trust the Dems attacks against him. And that is a dangerous thing.

There is nothing, ever, "dangerously wrong" about cutting the power of Democrats.

Qwinn said...
To make that last point:

Clarence Thomas stood his ground.
Clarence Thomas got confirmed.
They're doing it again to Kavanaugh anyway.

Yes, but Clarence Thomas is black
They figured it's be different doing it agains the ultimate evil: a white heterosexual cis-male Republican

If it fails here, they are going to go really nuts, because their arsenals will be dry

Clarence Thomas perjured himself onto the court. Kavanaugh has the same game plan. Kavanaugh has a brain, Thomas doesn't. Kavanaugh should still be defeated, especially now that his college pranks, and misdeeds have come to light. All hard-right-wingers should be defeated, nay pulverized.

”If the allegations are not true, Kavanaugh must stand his ground. If this effort to take him down works — if the allegations are not true — the same strategy will be used against the next nominee and the one after that. It will never end.”

It’s taken you a week to figure this out.

Now he has done it. The Left just hates 'virginity' (/s).

That said, the whole thing is sickening. One can only hope that the same 'standards' now will be used by the Right on the Left. Not that there is much hope in that.

PhilD said...

I also wonder why everybody acts as if Ford is anything but a despicable person.

As far as I'm concerned she is doing a hit job with malice aforethought. Feeling herself safe from Kavenaugh because he is a 'public figure' and Judge since he isn't in a position to fight back because of his past.

Of course, this was the same strategy used on Judge Moore. What's disappointing is the people pulling this stunt won't be punished for it.

Well, I just had a very interesting experience. I came across a USAtoday story;my senator, Tom Carper,(the only D aye vote last time) explained that having seen Kavanaugh's jurisprudence over the past 12 years, he strongly disapproved. So I popped into Carper's website to see if there was more.
Nothing foregrounded, but on the mailto page there was a list of 10 issues, one of which was "Judicial nominations". So I clicked.
Now Tom is big on the EPA and Kavanaugh has ruled against it-and other agencies,a good bit.Next, I wrote him;I was sympathetic. I said hey, vote no;that's cool. I would really be impressed if you could stress that in a public statement and add that you don't like this process. I also said that it appeared to me that the real fear of the Party was this agency-limiting approach and that 'save Roe" was a tactic and a distraction;it fires up the base, grabs the coverage, makes the nominee a villain--all good, sure helps.

Now, I was a practicing lawyer, but not a constitutional lawyer, so I'll ask our guide to correct and enlarge. Our nominee has a thing about separation of powers and how much power the executive or the congress can delegate without violating their respective constitutional duties.

A bit later, I went back to the Carper site to hand copy the text. The issue "Judicial nominations" was gone.

Are the ladies being played?

MaxedOutMama said...

Yes, Kavanaugh has no ethical choice, assuming innocence, but to stand and fight.

And I have no ethical choice but to fight for his nomination.

Not least of my current absolute antipathy for, and rejection of, the Democratic party is that they have forced me into a situation in which I really don't have any option but to fight for this guy's nomination, thus depriving me of the option of asking for another choice.

Because they HAD to make the stakes the integrity of the process itself, they deprived a lot of thinking citizens of normal choices.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 11, states: "Everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defence."

Not surprising to me, is that someone does not understand this principle.
