Wrong font?

It looks like this was unintentional, but the company BelleChic is sure getting a lot of free publicity over "My favorite color is Hitler."

It's supposed to say "My favorite color is glitter" (so they say).

Pol Pot was a successful communist mass murderer on a small stage. For the biggest communist mass murderers of all time, you need to look to the big leagues. Stalin and Mao killed many times more people than that rat bastard Hitler, although that's primarily because they had so much more time to do their dirty work.

The previous post had ""Around Los Angeles, Dr. Puliafito garnered attention as a kind of bon vivant at GLITTERY parties..."

This has 'glitter' as Hitler.

No 'glitter' tag, so I googled 'Althouse glitter', and came up with the following post headlines:

"Colorado student charged in 'glitter bomb' of Romney."

Glittering: "assault" or "wonderfully fabulous way to protest"?

Glitter Hitler: a wonderfully fabulous way to __________.

From 'Fonts In Use' site: fonts tagged with Adolph Hitler

Just knew that 'Fette Fraktur' HAD to be there.

But didn't realize the Hitler overtones in 'American Text'.

More on 'Fette Fraktur' :

"Germans argued for literally hundreds of years over which font was more German: Antiqua, or Fraktur. Antiqua was descended from old Latin typefaces; Fraktur was invented in the 17th century, and was used in Germany’s first newspapers. Otto von Bismark wouldn’t read anything that wasn’t printed in Fraktur; on the other side, Goethe, Nietzsche and Jakob Grimm (of the brothers Grimm) all decried it, in favor of Antiqua. Hitler eventually settled the dispute: The Nazi’s banned Fraktur due to its (untrue) “Jewish” origins. (Nazi buffoonery, as always, was on full display; the dictate against Fraktur was printed in Fraktur.) The Allies then resuscitated the font, in the money printed by their interim government."

If Althouse wants to see what her name looks like in the Spinal Tap font.

I thought that this was some kind of allusion to Trump. Hitler's name is usually used in the context of Trump or his policies. Eventually the names will become interchangeable and synonymous........Spell check has its problems, but it's a blessing when it comes to words like synonymous.......By and large, skinheads aren't into glitter. Too bad. That could have been a cool fashion accessory among the skinheads. I'd recommend doing the bag in black leather though.

How do you get an L out of that? I can see "Hitter" but there's not an l there. It's a stretch.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... but what color was he? Don't tell me he was red. If anything he was a yellow, a sort of pale ochre. When I'm feeling cranky that's how I answer the phone. R-r-r-r-r-i-i-i-ng! Ochre? Huh? It's a shade of Yellow? *click*.

My favorite color isn't Hitler. I never looked good in brown.

Definitely not that. No lobsters battling with amoebae over the mortal remains of Gregor Samsa.

I'm reminded of the 90's cartoon: an all-woman ad team at a table looking at a poster on an easel that says "Fleisher's ... You Can't Beat our Meat" while another women pokes her head in, saying "Sorry, ladies, the boys down in Marketing say the client will never go for it ..."

Yes, seriously. Don't get me wrong. All of those men were evil in the extreme. Hitler was a horrible mass murderer. But the historical fact is that Stalin and Mao were even bigger mass murderers.

You could make hay with Hitler brands (and perhaps moreso Rommel or Panzer brands). In Asia.
A mechano-Fascist look, add a bit of pink for the girls. Done.

Cultural context is everything.

Because I didn't use Comic Sans.

Then they came for those that used Bradley Hand, and I said nothing—

We have a nicely made and rather funky poster which features skulls and swastikas. It's OK because a Navajo guy made it.

Edit - I think he made the “Winter Protector” pic here.

"Incarcerated for 16 years" - yup, that's the guy. For molesting a kid, supposedly, but I also hear that the Navajos get burned when they get caught up in the court system, which is usually federal for them, because they're passively uncooperative.

I think you have to look at the percentage of overall population. Genocide is a rate stat, not a pure volume number. Pol Pot got a lot done percentage-wise in a short amount of time. He should not be overlooked.

You would surprised how often this happens. I just received a customer's artwork. The first thing I said was, "Why does it say Hong Kong?" Of course it didn't say Hong Kong. That's what I say at first glance. The customer can't see it that way because they already knew what it said. They were blind to it. They OK'd the art as is. I just shrugged my shoulders. The customer gets what the customer wants. If only you knew the number of times we have said, "Nobody will be able to read that".

World War II is just about historically distant enough that Hitler-chic isn't out of the question. Given the historical ignorance of Millennials and the rise of Left anti-semitism I expect to see it in my lifetime.

I have the front page of a newspaper's feature section showing a lovely woman wearing a bikini standing in water. The designer chose to accent the word "suit" (in a wavy font) by copying the word, and flipping it vertically to make it appear it was reflected on the water's surface, thus creating a "swim shit."

Hitler projection is everywhere. This bag is no more Hitler than is the President.

Perhaps the American Psychoanalytic Association should have its members discuss that.

There is a huge potential for East-Asian Hitler-chic.

A lot is leaking through the cracks - heck, this goes back a long way.
Japanese Tamiya in the 1960's became huge selling (well, their best-sellers anyway) Panzer model kits. That sort of thing is a very constant Japanese theme across many types of media.

And then there is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girls_und_Panzer

In computer games Nazis and their more fantastic works, or speculations, are a sort of alterno-steampunk. Call it Nazi-punk, or WW2-punk.

And, well, there is always something related popping up in those parts. It helps, a bit, that with the rapid improvement in education most Asian countries are becoming much more historically knowledgeable, even about European history, than Western peoples. The spin they put on this is very different though.

For those suggesting otherwise, I believe the Perfessor knew what the actual word was, hence her sardonic question "Wrong font?"

It did look like "hitler" at first glance. At second glance I caught the second t. Enlarging the image makes all clear. But, yes, a poor choice of font.

I don't know where "Known Unknown" pulled the argument that genocide is somehow rate-related from. It's one I've never encountered before. Given that it is not too difficult to establish that Mao was responsible for over 80 million deaths during his reign, the point is moot. It's a fun fact to whip out for liberal/progressives who take the slogan "there is no enemy to the left" seriously. Before anyone castigates me, let me point out there are chairs of Marxism, but none of Fascism, which is odd because Nazism was no more Fascism than Trotskyism was Communism.

To answer HoodlumDoodlum's question, the cross-stroke of the lower-case "t" is thin enough that it tends to become lost, especially against the white background of "COLOR." The first t's cross-stroke shows up much better against the black background.

Tamiya's armor kits became best sellers because they were excellent kits. It had nothing to do with Hitler. The odd thing is that the German prohibition against making, publishing, or displaying Nazi symbols includes decals for scale models. Hence models produced (or sold) in Germany are released with historically inaccurate markings. Modelers must resort to third-party sellers of after market items in other countries.

One of the more ironic recent portrayals of Nazis was in "Iron Sky," which included a satiric portrayal of Sarah Palin as President.

At the end of the day, all we see is an illustrative example of poor font choice, to to poor use of mention composition and color.

To quote a wise man, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
