The new Project Veritas video: Van Jones saying "That Russia thing is just a big nothing-burger."

Those weren't dead Soviets plunging the depths of Water Closet or hooking a big one at the DNC.

Layers of independent confirmation.

It's a big mac. Loaded up with gooey dressing and empty calories, but so tasty for the leftwing base.

Poot and Trump embarrassed Hillary and the democrats - with their own words.
Hell to pay.

To be fair, Van Jones is known for saying stupid things.

David Begley said...

Will Van say the same thing on CNN?

MikeR said...

Unlike the Bonifield video, this one is just ridiculous. It's cut immediately after those words so we have absolutely no idea of the context.
Project Veritas can do some good work, but I'm a little sick of them jerking us around with extremely edited videos. Sometimes they do post the full unedited video, but not always. Sometimes the full videos supports their claims, but not always.
Post the full unedited video, and we'll talk. In the meantime anyone in the conservative media jumping on it is asking to look foolish.

MikeR said...

By the way, Veritas and Pravda mean the same thing.

Matt Sablan said...

When has a complete Veritas video not backed up their claim?

MikeR: "By the way, Veritas and Pravda mean the same thing."

Nobody ever said "In vino Pravda"

I don't like it when left wing sites like the NYT drastically edit stuff, or the most famous practitioner, the Daily Show, so, while I do believe it is a "nothing burger," except that with a nothing burger you at least get a bun and some lettuce maybe, I won't believe that Van Jones was actually truthful on anything 'til I have actual proof.

Our President Trump should do two actions simultaneously:

1) Fire Robert "The FBI Whitewasher" and his crew of Trump-hating witch-hunters.

2) Declassify absolutely all the Intelligence Community's documents related to Russsiagate, Flynngate, Dossiergate, and so forth.

The US population does not need Mueller's "investigation". Release **ALL** the documents and let the entire population do a crowd-source analysis of the "intelligence" that has been the basis of this farce.

We have a lot of context. First would be... the bonifield video. Another piece of context is the complete lack of presented evidence. The third would be Obama's own words.

From this point on promulgation of this story should be considered treason.

Bay Area Guy said...

The Russia "Collusion" claim is a big nothing-burger, regardless of anything Van Jones says on camera or off.

It was created to help Dems explain away Hillary's unexpected LOSS, and to destabilize Trump's presidency.

It is like Watergate - without the burglary. There's no crime.

Ann Althouse said...

"Unlike the Bonifield video, this one is just ridiculous. It's cut immediately after those words so we have absolutely no idea of the context."

It looks as though we see the entire interaction between Jones and the Veritas operative.

If it's not complete, let Jones say so and tell us what the context is. He has the motivation to come forward with the explanation of why he said that.

tim in vermont said...

That adds up to 353 minutes of airtime since May 17, compared to 47 minutes on Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate pact, 29 minutes on the fight against terrorism and 17 minutes on the efforts to repeal and replace ObamaCare, according to the Daily Caller’s summary of the study. It said tax reform got a mere 47 seconds of coverage.

LOL, I guess they want to keep Inga glued to the screen!

Mike Sylwester said...

Why should any of the intelligence documents be kept secret?

The situation we have now is that the intelligence officials who have been entrusted and paid to study the documents leak selectively any of the information that might cause trouble for Trump.

Robert "The FBI Whitewasher" Mueller is a leaker too, and he too will leak his information selectively. When Mueller headed the FBI, leaks were used by the FBI to try to pressure Steve Hatfill into confessing that he was the anthrax culprit.

The FBI leadership -- Mueller still is in it, for all practical purposes -- is trying to remove President Trump from office just like the FBI leadership tried to remove Martin Luther King from his leadership the Civil Rights Movement. The methods are the same -- a bogus, endless "investigation" of "Russian meddling", which justifies police-state tactics.

This stuff gets beamed to captive audiences mostly. You know, like 1984. It's like USA Today, who would read it at all if it wasn't free in every hotel?

It's almost like 1984 except for the fact that it's exactly like it. I know, I know, Robert Cook made the case that 1984 could easily have been about a free market economy.

"Unlike the Bonifield video, this one is just ridiculous. It's cut immediately after those words so we have absolutely no idea of the context."

It is truly nothing burgers all the way down.

The most damaging part of all of this was Bonifield's account of Jeff Zucker's statements. CNN can't sweep that under the rug as simply being Bonifield's own opinions. Either Zucker did instruct his folks to ignore a substantive issue to focus on the Russian nonsense, or he didn't. No matter what side you are on, the withdrawal from the Paris Accord is at least a substantive issue. And it's a real thing that happened. Trump really did withdraw from the Paris Accord. It's not a matter of rumor and far-fetched speculation.

Mike Sylwester said...

This investigation began last July, when Paul Manafort was Donald Trump's campaign manager. Manafort had smuggled a lot of money out of Ukraine on behalf of the Ukrainian elected officials -- pro-Russian, elected officials -- who were being undermined by the Obama Administration. Those officials foresaw that they would have to flee from Ukraine, and so they hired Manafort to smuggle money to the West to enable them to resettle there.

That is my interpretation of the publicly available information.

President Trump should declassify absolutely all our country's intelligence information about Manafort and his money-laundering activities. Open up the entire can of worms, which should include the Obama CIA's efforts to undermine Ukraine's elected, pro-Russia government.

Let everyone examine and discuss all the information about Manafort. Let everyone wonder where the bogus, endless investigation of Manafort is supposed to go.

What does the Manafort have to do with the US election of 2016?

Manafort has absolutely nothing to do with the our 2016 election. Instead, Manafort has everything to do with the Ukrainian election of 2009 that elected the pro-Russia government in Ukraine.

buwaya said...

"No matter what side you are on, the withdrawal from the Paris Accord is at least a substantive issue"

It is, however, unfortunately for the MSM, an issue on which the US public tends to back Trump. So that is not something they want to make too much of.

Van Jones doesn't know what is happening in the Russia investigation, no one but those doing the actual investigation know. All we know is that it's ongoing and that the Russia story isn't going away anytime soon.

A national security briefing for Senate Judiciary Committee members was scuttled Wednesday after a top Democrat invoked a procedural rule to delay the closed-door meeting. (Snip) The delay earned rebuke from Sen. Charles Grassley, the head of the committee that had expected to be briefed. “The Judiciary Committee was set to hear from senior intelligence officials about highly sensitive intelligence gathering authorities that will soon require action from Congress,” Mr. Grassley said. “It’s disturbing and reckless for the Minority Leader to block the briefing.

Yes, it is so critical to get to the bottom of this whole Russia thing that Democrats stonewalling as best they can. You know, so it won't "go away" because if we knew all of the facts, that is what would happen.

NATO allies - excluding the US - will increase defence spending by 4.3% in a victory for Donald Trump after he warned member states that they ´must finally contribute their fair share´. America´s European allies and Canada are projected to spend around $12billion more on defence this year amid pressure from the US President.

Trump supporters are at risk of being viewed like Yankees fans when they used to win stuff, and Patriots fans, or Miami Hurricane fans back in the day. People get sick of all of your winning after a while.

OMG, a comment? Really? Wow, this is so big.

Here's a comment: And in fact when I decided to just do it I said to myself, I said, “You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story..

But I get it. Van Jones can't be impeached and doesn't have tax returns to reveal proving that his foreign business interests prevent him from serving America's best interests. So it's obvious we have to hammer a little on him rather than demand accountability of the CiC.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

The left attempted a coup and failed.

Oh. You mean like Trump's birther coup against Obama?

Just have him haul out the damn tax returns. He's being investigated under completely legal auspices as authorized by a Congress controlled by your own, personal, political party. If he doesn't like the heat, he can either leave the kitchen, or fucking cook something for once in his life. Show us the recipe. Will he provide the tax returns or does he keep wanting to do this the hard way?

Trump has to be dealt with the way a child is dealt with. He leaves the process no other choice and those elected to serve office in his party know it. He can afford to lie about his campaign pledge and gut Medicare. They can't.

Sooner or later you will discover that the constitution does not allow for Leading by Personality Cult.

Sigh... as opposed to Hillary, who made the whole XYZ Affair seem like small potatoes with her money grubbing for access as the equivalent of Tallyrand as France's Foreign Secretary who famously demanded payments and loans before he would meet with our diplomats. Do you think that countries like Bahrain are running around shouting things like "Millions for defense! Not one penny for tribute!" No, they just pay up because they are more sophisticated than Americans.

So you keep poking around trying to find some "conflict of interest" where Trump really became president so he could make a couple extra million on some hotel in Prague, or something, meanwhile, let's all ignore how the Democrats defended monetizing federal office for years.

Still nobody has explained why a petro-state like Russia, that lives and dies by the price of oil, wanted a "drill baby drill" guy in the White House ramping up production, increasing supply, and pressuring prices downward? Better off with Hillary killing Keystone, impeding fracking and development wherever possible, etc, in an effort to tighten up supplies. Democrats believe in high energy prices due to climate change. A position that meshes nicely with Putin's requirements as basically, an oil baron.

The press pushed the DNC talking point "Republicans will push granny off the cliff". In the following weeks, a Democrat attempted to assassinate a Republican representative and his staff.

The Democratic Party pushed a preconception talking point: Russia, Russia, Trump, Russia. During his administration, Obama started elective wars from Africa to Asia to Eastern Europe, until his progress was halted when Ukrainian refugees made their voices heard.

We're no longer talking about the assassination attempt, but we are still talking about the dead Soviets lurking in Democratic Water Closets and phishing in their pools. And the babies deemed unworthy... are still Planned and aborted. I suppose, what difference, at this point, does it make. Perhaps NYT, WaPo et al will have shared responsibility.

Yet Hillary, who took millions from Putin cronies, directly and indirectly through her tax avoidance scheme, err, I mean "Foundation" is the one that pulled the trigger to kill Keystone, and keep oil from peace loving Canadians from competing with that of dictators, warlords, and kleptocrats like Putin.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Well, Ann. You've got two in this thread fixated on auto-fellatio and one who thinks we'll be fueling our cars with natural gas (or mebbe coal) sometime soon. Priuses are hybrids, dummy. They run on gas. Just less of it. (Since you're anti-efficiency).

Mebbe you were thinking of Teslas. But they've got solar fueling station networks across the country and are based in a state that's transitioning to renewables.

It will be really hard for you to get over this un-ownable energy future, I see. Should I "drink your tears" on that one - the way right-wingers always say that they're doing to the rest of the country that opposes them?

This is a guy who brags upthread about how he doesn't understand stuff, and still he clings to the thought that cutting the price of oil is "sucking up" to the owners of that oil. Proudly Purblind! That' should be your next handle.

Read this slowly a couple of times, the whole article. Don't worry, it's from Bloomberg, not Breitbart.

It may be too soon to write OPEC's obituary, but the oil producer club appears in urgent need of late-life care. It shows little understanding of where it is, how it got there or where it's going. While it still manages to collect new members here and there, its core group looks more fragile than at any point in nearly 30 years. The historic output agreements, put together so painstakingly last year, are failing. Nearly 12 months of shuttle diplomacy culminated in two deals that would see 22 countries cut production by nearly 1.8 million barrels a day. Implementation has been better than for any previous output cut, with compliance put at 106 percent in May.

A resounding success? Hardly. We're now in the final month of those deals and oil prices are lower than when they were agreed. Not only have producers sacrificed volume, but they earn less for each barrel they do produce.

Hillary tried to throw them a bone by trying to kill Keystone (remember it was her decision), but Trump snatched even that away from them. If Hillary had won, Keystone would still be dead.

Toothless, though, like Putin, the Saudis, Oil Company stockholders, the whole rogue's gallery, is for higher oil prices, sticking it to every white redneck in a pickup who used to vote Democrat is just a bonus!

Continuing with "strange new respect" for Van Jones, here he is a couple of days ago saying:

I think Democrats are fooling ourselves if we think that something going to come out of this investigation that somehow is going to end the Trump presidency and make everything better. Unless there's a real smoking gun, which there's probably not, it's just going to be a big old mess. Meanwhile, we're not talking about jobs, not talking about poverty -- we're not talking about solutions, not talking the addiction crisis.

He's . . . uncommonly realistic about the whole thing, for a journalist and liberal activist.

Nah Fenne - I insult you because you're a stupid person who says stupid things - who was never hired a job to do that involved use of your brain, even though you think you should be telling people what to do or think anyway.

Insulting you is entertaining in that context - even if it isn't to you; but that's because you're the one being insulted.

If it was my job to entertain you I'd air drop you into an Arabian desert, because that's what you find entertaining. But because I'm not getting paid I'll entertain myself instead. Entertaining people that you don't care for is a paying gig. If you had a skill or talent in life that people found worth paying for, you'd know that. But you don't.

SAD! :-D

Fenne apparently thinks the word for "soft spot" is "dilitante" (sic). Which isn't even a word, mind you. But only us non-sophists know that.

We also know that it's spelled "dilettante" and has nothing to do with the meaning he implied. With full force of his mighty, tiny brain.

Oh, everyone already knows that you find reading to be a bother. No need to keep broadcasting your illiteracy here.

We already know. Try finger painting, instead. Or blowing stuff up. With an approving Saudi sheikh applauding you for it.

Fen is my twin brother. He's missed his nightly dose of medication for several days now. I apologize for his behavior. We, his family, have tried to convince him to admit himself, as he is once again veering into hyper-mania. He has delusions of being smarter, faster and more powerful than mere normal people. He can't be held responsible, please excuse him.

Van Jones? How about we have Obama tel us how important this Russia Hacking story is:

"Mr. Obama said, “I have never seen in my lifetime, or in modern political history, any presidential candidate trying to discredit the elections and the election process before votes have even taken place."

"His sharp words reflected rising concerns among Democratic and Republican leaders that Mr. Trump’s drumbeat of accusations was resonating with his supporters. Many worry that if Mrs. Clinton wins and Mr. Trump refuses to accept the result, his stand will undermine her authority going into office and sow doubts about the legitimacy of the process."

“I’d invite Mr. Trump to stop whining and go try to make his case to get votes,” he said. If Mr. Trump won, the president added, Mrs. Clinton would deliver a concession speech and he would escort Mr. Trump to the Capitol for the time-honored ritual of a peaceful transfer of power.

“That’s what Americans do,” he said. “That’s why America is already great. One way of weakening America, making it less great, is if you start betraying those basic American traditions that have been bipartisan, and have helped hold together this democracy now for well over two centuries.”

Anyone who carries on with this Russian collusion bullshit is a dishonest piece of shit at this point.

Yancey Ward said...

Look, Bonifield and Jones aren't idiots- they see the exact same lack of evidence I and others are seeing, and when they don't think their words will be used against them, they speak honestly about this fact. Both no doubt realize that if there was solid evidence supporting the story, someone would have already leaked hard, verifiable evidence of it. If you haven't seen that by now, you aren't going to.

Toothless, we already know Trump's tax returns won't show what you suspect he is hiding, and for the same reason above- literally hundreds of people in and out of the IRS will have seen these documents over the years, and not a one of them found anything salacious in them worth leaking anonymously? The simplest explanation is that they had nothing to leak that was worth it.

Van Jones has his opinion and so do the Trumpski's.

As do the Intelligence Community.

Nope. Just someone who reads the Constitution and has no resentment against Congress for carrying out its authority to investigate a serial liar who refuses to disclose the same financial records that became SOP decades ago while mysteriously getting financed during unprecedented recessionary collapse by agents that his son and business heir admitted were hostile and foreign in nature.

There is as much reason and precedent to investigate this as there was for Whitewater. And with even more urgent urgency and need. Even Clinton didn't fire his attorney general for allowing him to be investigated. Trump has something to hide, obviously. The only question is, "What?" And your need to cover it up means that apparently you have something to hide, also.

What are you trying to hide? The fact that you know Trump is a phony, but still lash out like a wild, wounded animal at any American who wants to know what's really going on in the Oval Office? I mean, other than dereliction of duty?

Unknown said...

As said before, when Nixon resigned his hardcore base of around 20% continued to believe he was innocent. Ditto Trump and the Trumpski's.

The only thing that matters is Mueller's case and his evidence on Trump for money laundering, collusion and obstruction of justice. There is also a RICO case against Trump by the NY AG coming along nicely.

What Trumpski's believe is of no relevance. As Trump said during the election, he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and nothing would happen to him. He was right, the Trumpski's would have still elected him. But, there is a little matter of the US law.

So the troll comes back to "mock, name call, and not listen" is an accurate paraphrase , and layout the case against Trump, Here it is in accurate summary: "reasons!"

You would think they would be embarrassed, but you have to have some degree of self-awareness to be embarrassed.

For me, the funniest part of this whole story is that they're trying to accuse Donald Trump of working with Russian intelligence to release damaging and accurate information about the Democratic Party.

And that's supposed to be treasonous.

Yep. And they're also nuts. It doesn't pay to argue with the crazy homeless guy who stands on the street corner screaming and mumbling to himself. That's exactly what the leftists here sound like.

If Project Veritas captured Zucker himself on vid saying "It's all bullshit, but it sure does excite the suckers, hicks and retards that make up the anti-Trump 'Resistance' so we can't drop it' the suckers, hicks and retards would continue on exactly as they are now.

Shortly you will be watching leftists in the obama administration being arrested and put in jail for breach of the espionage act. At least you better hope you do. They have clearly broken the law and are specifically trying to undermine a lawfully elected president.

Over half the country thinks this investigation is treason. If this coup is successful we are going to serve no quarter to the people who clearly do not believe a word they are saying and are just angry they lost an election. Someone who thought Obama and Clinton were not phonies has no place judging who is a phony.

We put him there. He is doing what we want more or less. No politician has been subjected to anything like this garbage. It is clear the 93% of D.C. that voted for Clinton resists the idea they serve us. One way or another they will accept that they serve us.

Since TTR is correcting spelling on the internet, let me offer this, please.

TTR: : "Oh, everyone already knows that you find reading to be a bother."

Adding "to be" is an improper use of the idiom. As an idiom there is only one proper usage.

Spelling issues spring from all sorts of problems (e.g. spell check, bad typing, homonyms, etc) but poor grammar springs from lack of understanding. YMMV

This is more-or-less how I feel. O'Keefe has found some good stuff, but has also victimized supporters like me with his incompetence and unscrupulous use of edited clips. One can't trust anything he says until unedited clips are posted, and even then one can't trust it without actually watching the unedited clips to see if they yield the same conclusion he's trying to create.
