The garden view.

The deck and the backyard garden, photographed by Meade from the third floor:

IMG_3125

I like where he moved the edibles. It was fun eating skewers of grilled steak on the deck tonight and picking the red speckled lettuce as a leaf-by-leaf impromptu side dish.

Anyway, talk about whatever you want in the comments. This is an open thread.

And think about shopping through The Althouse Amazon Portal.

Looks very nice. But what's with those semi-circular stripes in the lawn??

Though it is probably a little too strident for me, I found this post completely engrossing.

Definitely some truths.

Stripes = recently mowed.

And maybe having the veggies on the deck will discourage the deer. Probably won't stop the rabbits, though...

It will stop the rabbits. It's one story up, with no stairway.

Meadehouse traded in the wine boxes for 11-hydroxy-THC.

Back in Ann's Brooklyn Heights days, I seem to recall that she often used a small point-an-shoot camera - I think it was a Sony "W-50" model - with a great low-light, no flash setting - and captured some really great street scenes of NYC after dark.

I bring this up because the photo above appears to have been taken using a programmed or automatic setting, with an inferior lens, and as a result confused itself with all the green. Well, at least it confused me.

Such a terrific garden needs a more-better picture! So my suggestion is to break out the ol' W-50, set it on Low Light, No Flash, and fire away. And if possible, get one or two of the front yard using the same setting.

PS> Okay, I just checked Flickr and see that Meade used his iPhone. Which is certainly better than nothing, but still a diservice to his masterful garden.

Have you ever smelled your wine glass in a restaurant?

We went to an upscale restaurant, and I always like to have a glass of wine to prime the pump. So the waiter brings my glass, and I pick it up and smell it. It smells like Clorox.

So I grab my wife's purse and withdraw a wine glass from home. The waiter looks at me like I've just got off the boat. "Is there a problem?"

I tell him I know restaurants have to really sanitize for the government clerks downtown, and I appreciate that, but I like wine in a non-sanitized glass. He smells the glass. "Oh, I see what you mean."

I mean a disposable paper cup would be better than a Clorox infused glass.

Then it turns out the wine has a distinctive watered-down Mogan David taste. Holy shit. I dump it in the planter, and reach into my wife's purse and bring out a little bottle of Brandy and use that to cleanse my mouth.

I should have ordered vodka, as that kills the Clorox, and the germs in my mouth in one swoop.

Wine is dead in American restaurants...

London Man Accuses Another Of Islamophobia As They Both Hide From Islamic Terrorists

I wonder if "London Man" comments here.

"Reality Winner"? GTF outta here! Reality is about to bite Reality in the ass and turn a Winner into a Loser. The bad news for her is that traitors need an outgoing Democrat president if they want to get a pardon. The earliest that could happen is January 2025.

As the patrons hide behind chairs and under tables, a man can be heard clearly shouting, “FUCKING MUSLIM CUNTS.”

“Shut up mate,” responds a man close to the camera. “You fucking idiot. It’s not Muslims.”

Following in the footsteps of wealthy Republicans, the 2016 purchase of Sanders´ third home – a lake front four-bedroom located in the Champlain Islands, that cost the senator $575,000 in August 2016 – is hidden behind a family trust -Daily Mail

Yes, wealthy Democrats never use family trusts and socialists never dodge taxes. This is my shocked face :^O

Nothng worse than watered down Maddog. Except all the new fucking fancy flavors of Maddog that is. Maddog should be grape flavored and that's it!

Great garden.

I'm looking forward to the Professor's comments on the SCt requiring responses in the immigration case by next Monday. Is this unusual? What does it mean in terms of decision timing, etc?

ESPN must be really feeling the pressure. They have un-banned Obama disrespecter Hank Williams Jr. It's a start, but not enough.

Virtually Unknown said...

Imagine if they banned every single person who said something less than obsequious about Trump? Well, that's different because Trump!

Extreme vetting.

Plus, I have called for a travel ban on all lagomorphs until we get this rabbit problem solved. We have to do it. We have no choice.

Lovely shade garden. I assume it's shady back there with all the hosta. Growing grass in shade is tricky. nice job.

Your yard is lovely. Meade is doing a fabulous job.

If/when you decide to move, you probably should consider the 'gardening' climate and plant selections possible in your future location, since it seems to be something that you both enjoy.

Order a bottle of something that you like instead of by the glass. Have the waiter open it in front of you. And I agree on the ick about the ultra sanitized glasses. Also why I avoid salads in restaurants. They have been soaked in disinfectant (in Calif anyway)

One of our local restaurants at a private resort lets you bring your own bottle of wine :-D

In Montreal there's an entire class of AVV restaurants, i.e. Apportez Votre Vin.
Thats French for BYOB.

I agree!

What you see at both levels is 100% his work. My contribution was pointing at hostas I liked at the nursery and opining about colors and expressing appreciation.

And now a word from Emily Litella:

Never mind.

...Actually, I should explain; it was the (wrong) angle on my laptop-screen that made the photo appear too green.

Now the picture looks picture-perfect!

PS> I've done this before with my own photographs, and I'm always amazed when it dawns on me to adjust the angle - rather than buying a new camera.

Sorry!

Has Meade ever tried Tricytris (Toad Lilly) in your yard?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tricyrtis

Amazingly complex up close, you'd enjoy photographing them. Around here (Pacific NW) they bloom late summer early fall. I have some seeds I gathered from a plant when I worked at a nursery - they need stratification (cold period) and I can't seem to remember to get the damn seeds into soil in early fall so they get sit out in the winter cold.
