Kathy Griffin (re Trump): "He broke me. He broke me. He broke me."

Step 1 was going on the attack. Step 2, apologizing. Now, we're at step 3: She's the victim of bullying.
The comedian broke down in tears as she detailed the torrent of abuse she has been receiving online, and the constant death threats which she described as detailed and specific....

[She] said that her career was likely over now as a result of this incident, and that President Trump had 'broke' her, moments after she declared: 'There's a bunch of old white guys trying to silence me!'...

It was also confirmed at the press conference that the Secret Service is investigating Griffin over the image, with the median saying: 'Yeah I might get arrested today. I don't care.'
Video will autoplay after the jump:

I hope she is broken. She asked for everything (except death threats) that she has received.

And what was Gloria Allred's daughter doing there other than getting in the camera frame?

The stupid slut claims she has feelings. So why did she assume no one else she delivers the CIA's bloody head Omerta warning to has any feelings?

rhhardin said...

The outrage is ridiculous, and the secret service is just an assertion of authority.

The people who don't care what she did don't care about her claim of victimhood either. It's a local battle of oversensitive people on both sides.

The insensitive don't care on either side.

It's all better understood in terms of a target audience rather than the feelings of the participants.

She managed to surround herself with a bunch of fools that thought the severed head was a good idea, and then blames Trump?

I really hope her career is over.

The sad thing is that there will be a significant number of people that will agree with her and believe that Trump drove her to it.

Also, when I found out Lisa Bloom is Gloria Allred's daughter, the press conference made a whole lot more sense.

She does not deserve death threats. She also doesn't deserve to be paid attention to.

I don't see any reason for the Secret Service to investigate this, as it does not seem to be a threat. On the other hand, if they investigate this sort of thing when done by random no-name people, then the fact that she is a (very minor) celebrity should not get her out of it.

mezzrow said...

Not to repeat Scott Adams, but I might have said something like "do you really think that's a good idea?"

All it would take is a single friend to say the following:

What if somebody had done that with Obama's head, or even W's head? Plus, even Trump has loved ones, armies of minions, lots of money and is notoriously thin-skinned. I wouldn't do that if I was you. Really. Think about it. The man is President Of The United States of America. Being associated with a beheading is not a way to broaden your appeal, even if it is Trump.

It's not good to go into the history books for this kind of a stunt. Not good.

But, not a single person could see this. Not one.

Kathy Griffin had this choice:

* Be a popular celebrity and earn a lot of money for helping CNN get high ratings for its New Years Eve show.

* Infuriate the 63 million people who voted for Donald Trump.

She single-handedly endangered CNN's ratings for its New Year's Eve show.

The same goes for any other business that pays Griffin a lot of money to help get good publicity.

Other celebrities are damaging their careers by infuriating the 63 million people who voted for Trump. When they appear on television, many people will switch to another channel. This damage to their careers will last for many years.

Her tearful shock and bewilderment at the public's reaction to her stunt is an act, totally belied by the comments she made just after shooting the original "severed head" clip. She was quite proud of it and her comments show she clearly intended to, and endeavored to provoke extreme emotion with the "head clip" or whatever we want to call it. Watch her in the clip below -- it's short.

http://www.tmz.com/2017/05/30/kathy-griffin-beheads-donald-trump-photo-tyler-shields/

And her hyperventilating "the moms ganged up on me, and then this group and that group" contradicts her insistence that Trump [read: tyrant] "broke me. He broke me! He broke me!" Nope. The public "broke" her by rejecting her chosen form of "comedy." It happens all the time.

What a pathetic attempt to pivot to "Trump victim" complete with crocodile tears. Spare me.

(All that said, she's got a free-speech right to be disgusting and vulgar, as long as she doesn't call for or incite violence -- that's the test, right? -- so carry on, Kathy Griffen. Just don't cry and blame everyone else when, as you leftists are so fond of pointing out, your speech has consequences.)

I appreciate what Kathy did as an important, and courageous work of modern art. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Do you know who first said that?

In Molly Bawn, 1878, there's the line "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", which is the earliest citation that I can find in print."

Only a book burner, or a Nazi thug would condemn her for creating something so shockingly beautiful. Kathy was the perfect head holder because she has fiery red hair to go along with a flaming orange Trump head. Trump's is Bozo the Clown:

If something is already defective or failing can it be broken? Is this an excuse for an impending lawsuit, accusing Trump of ruining the career of a second rate comic? Sounds like that to me. Was Ariana Grande broken after her donut episode and subsequent disinvitation to the White House? Or was Justin Bieber destroyed after his scandals? One more thing: remember the banished, "broken" rodeo clown? Let's all remember Claire McCaskill's outrage when the rodeo clown wore an Obama mask (after wearing masks of several other presidents in prior rodeos). McCaskill's statement:

"The state fair is funded by taxpayer dollars, and is supposed to be a place where we can all bring our families and celebrate the state that we love," she said. "But the young Missourians who witnessed this stunt learned exactly the wrong lesson about political discourse, that somehow it's ever acceptable to, in a public event, disrespect, taunt, and joke about harming the president of our great nation."

http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/12/politics/missouri-obama-rodeo/

Some CNN executive plans and manages the New Year's Eve show. Probably he has done so for many years, and he likes Kathy Griffin and so made her a regular on the show.

This CNN executive's annual bonus is determined to a significant extent by the ratings he gets for the New Year's Eve show.

Many other TV channels broadcast shows on New Year's Eve. Anyone who does not want to watch Kathy Griffin can simply switch to another channel.

Griffin's insult to the US President -- who received 63 million votes -- was going to severely reduce this CNN executive's annual bonus. As much as might have liked Griffin personally, he fired her immediately.

"More importantly, jas she apologized to Barron Trump? "

I watched the extended 30 minute press conference on YouTube and at one point a reporter asked what she would like to say to Melania and Barron. After an awkward pause she just said she didn't think she had anything to say to them.

Quaestor said...

I’m happy to deliver beat down to Donald Trump — and also to Barron. You know a lot of comics are going to go hard for Donald, my edge is that I’ll go direct for Barron. I’m going to get in ahead of the game.

What a hypocrite she is, but that's to be expected from Kathy Griffin or anybody on the left. Never trust them. Never believe them. Never turn your back. Keep your smoke wagon loaded and freshly cleaned. They want your freedom and they play for blood. The only solution is gun control.

Jay Vogt said...

I find the "he broke me" as well as the extended discussion in that same theme of presidental misuse of power in going after her on Twitter in the full press conference ironic. I think had things gone over as she expected she would have been disappointed and surprised not to get a personal Twitter reaction from Trump.

Dave from Minnesota said...

Jay, my take is that she wanted the right to be outraged. That would give her tons and tons of free publicity and make her a hero to the left. That is why when this first became public, I though everyone should just ignore her.

But it was just a bit too over the top. Implying that you want to murder and decapitate the President, and then doing visuals of it, may have been a bit too much.

What a vulgar, unfunny bitch/clown. Knowing her previous statements, makes her hypocritical crying even funnier. If can't take it, don't dish it out.

Ron Winkleheimer said...

She thought they'd have her back.

Yeah, that's the major problem from Griffin's point of view. She hoped Trump would respond. It's no good if Trump doesn't respond. As for death threats, that's a badge of honor.

The problem is that a lot of people on the left condemned her, because she makes them look bad to normal people. So the current move is an attempt to rally the people on the left back to her side because "Trump bad."

Won't work. She's toast.

@Mike Sylwester (on your remark that KG may be going through menopause, hence the irrational behavior), you sound positively like a feminist, woman-championing Democrat! And, oh, the empathy you show for women re their "reproductive health" and frequent fragile emotional states. During the birth-control-mandate debate, Democratic Senator Tom Harkin said many women are completely incapacitated -- totally debilitated -- during menstruation.

It's impossible not to love Democrats. There's so much caring!

* Equality for women
* Gender is a social construct
* Women are totally equal to men
* Women never lie about rape
* Women lose elections because of misogyny

... all of these things are true unless, Democrats are quick to point out, women are menstruating or menopausing. During those difficult times, menstruation and menopause are not social constructs at all. During those times, women are often total loons and require the fierce protection of self-identifying males.

From Ace:

I didn't particularly want Kathy Griffin fired -- but it was necessary.

I actually envy her lack of inhibition and total feeling of freedom. She felt she could do whatever she wanted, so long as it broke no laws.

I'd like to feel that way. But I can't.

I can't feel that way, because I know the progressive mob is always scalp-hunting, and that I am not free to say or think as I might like.

They rule part of my brain -- my very fear of them limits my thoughts, creates inhibitions and limitations in me which I did not choose for myself, but were forced upon me from without.

I have become, partly, a recruit in the Social Justice Warrior army. Their dicta, their demands, their fury is always alive inside of me.

I know to fear them. And so I must self-censor.

My fear of their power makes part of my own brain their appointed warden for the rest of my head.

So a big part of my anger is in seeing Kathy Griffin act as a totally free spirit and free agent, able to do what she likes just because she thinks it's funny, or "edgy," or whatever.

It makes me angry to see her living a life where she can just do something without fearing the consequences -- but I can't.

And neither can you.

My hatred of Kathy Griffin isn't a hatred of her -- it's a hatred of the vicious caste-based system which says she has more rights than Sean Hannity, and more rights than you, and more rights than me.

If keeping some of my diminished amount of freedom means that I have to thuggishly begin taking it from others -- so be it.

I didn't make the rules.

I'm just trying to survive them.

I don't want her to have less freedom -- but the only way to make sure I keep the limited, constantly-eroded freedom I currently have is to insist that I am not a serf, and I will not be held to different laws than the Lords.

As I cannot accept that -- and as I will not accept that -- I must insist she pay the same cost I would be expected to pay if I were to do what she did.

Otherwise, I'm saying Sir/Ma'am to the Ruling Caste, and confirming that I accept my lower position.

Hillary Clinton called half of the country "The Deplorables."

It's really not so different from the lowest caste in India -- the "Untouchables," is it?

That's right. Everyone seemed to be fantasizing about assassinating Dubya. Nicholson Baker wrote an entire novel about it. Of course, they fantasized about the assassination of Obama, too, but then they weren't the killers; it was evil right-wing white supremacists. Now we're back to first-person shooter (or beheader) mode, as it were.

If there's a parallel phenomenon on the right, it must be very, very fringe, because I've never run across it, and I read a great deal, across the ideological spectrum. Certainly it hasn't made the NYT best seller's list, as Baker's did.

But can we talk eliminationist rhetoric here? Griffin, who had the heebie-jeebies over Sarah Palin's "crosshairs," says now (via her lawyer) that she had no idea that holding up Trump's blood-covered, severed head might be construed as a threat. Add this to her remarks on Barron -- did anyone go after Sasha or Malia in this way, even when they were merrily twerking in Mexico? -- and I can only conclude that the lady's a psychopath, TDS edition.

Sounds like the world that always was, but of course Trump-Clones, just like Trump himself, never take responsibility for a thing. It's always the other side's fault.

Also, I caught your snide little sniffle there at not feeling culturally relevant in media. ("DNC propaganda arm.") Maybe try doing a better job of relating to humanity and other people and then today's media might work for you, too.

Until then, I suppose I should mourn with you that the coalition of narcissists, sociopaths and autistics making up the right-wing in America don't understand humor or satire, and never did. But that would sadden me more than any American has any right to be made to feel.

Satire will live on. Presidents have never been guillotined in America the way blacks have been lynched by noose, and I guess that's just the way it's going to be. Free speech lives. The judiciary lives. And Trump's approval rating is still below 40%. But he can get you all to rage on about all the unimportant issues: Resentment and white-people identity politics. Hey, it's a rough life for your crowd. Apparently even the scientists are against you, or not on your side. I forget. So hard to keep up with all the wrongs you feel you've been through.
