After the London Bridge terrorist attack, Theresa May calls for embarrassing conversations.

"So we need to become far more robust in identifying [terrorism] and stamping it out across the public sector and across society. That will require some difficult, and often embarrassing, conversations."

What's hiding behind that weasely "embarrassing"? She didn't deign to say anything that embarrassed her. It was all "society should continue to function in accordance with our values" and "the whole of our country needs to come together." And "conversation." Bromides. Oh, well, maybe that is embarrassing, but I don't think that's what she meant.

What kind of a break? One that magically transports you to live in a world where you:

1. Don't resent people more popular, successful and beloved than you?
2. Pretend that factory food manufacturers don't collude with Republican cowards to inundate the poorest neighborhoods with the worst foodstuffs?
3. Pretend that drug epidemics aren't an even much bigger problem in red states and the other socially/culturally impoverished areas that make up proud, politically conservative America?
4. Pretend that natural environments are immune to human impact?

That would be quite a break, indeed!

That's interesting. Never have I seen or heard the word "diva" more than when chocolate ice cream bar manufacturers are trying to sell the idea of luxurious excess to overweight, middle-aged females about to throw themselves a lonely, calorie-laden pity party.

The things you don't know about advertising could fill a sizable chunk of the ethernet. I guess once you're finally done with your Johnny-Come-Lately war on the news media, you can finally get on with a war against all the lies told by the advertising industry.

My bad. I thought your second comment suggested it mattered whether the country of origin wanted the migrants to leave.

Speaking of embarrassing, then our ambassador to London had to smooth things over.

"Other parts of the United States government sought to smooth over the dispute. “I commend the strong leadership of the @MayorofLondon as he leads the city forward after this heinous attack,” Lew Lukens, a career diplomat serving as acting American ambassador to London, wrote on Twitter hours later."

The massive amounts of Antarctica and the North that are breaking off into the ocean really must be part of that awesome stability.

Updated data from NASA satellite instruments reveal the Earth’s polar ice caps have not receded at all since the satellite instruments began measuring the ice caps in 1979. Since the end of 2012, moreover, total polar ice extent has largely remained above the post-1979 average. The updated data contradict one of the most frequently asserted global warming claims – that global warming is causing the polar ice caps to recede.

Right, When I am downtown and see cops and military with rifles on every corner, I might be alarmed. Nothing to be alarmed about, why are cops on every corner?

Nice fake news report from Forbes, John.

Here's what their source, NASA, has to say about it, in a publication dated two years after the Forbes hit-job.

Once at the site, you'll find links to the following recent articles:

NASA Discovers a New Mode of Ice Loss in Greenland

Alaska Tundra Source of Early-Winter Carbon Emissions

Must be why Trump is trimming the budget of the basic science necessary to find this stuff out. Either way, they know that what they're up to is a propaganda war. They can no longer control the stories that are being uncovered by the science reporting, so they will therefore end the science research.

For how long will you believe liars who are just out to make money off of you?

What you idiot Althouse Hillbillies don't get is that we shouldn't try to fight terrorists by taking on their values but instead have confidence in our liberal values.

To defeat a ruthless enemy requires equally ruthless methods.

Question: What’s the difference between a totalitarian society and an Islamic society?

A certain percentage of Muslims finding themselves in the West will “get religion,” meaning that they will go from trying to awkwardly and unsuccessfully fit an Islamic worldview into a free democratic society - to becoming even MORE religious. They may be new arrivals, second generation, third generation, “homegrown,” etc., but gradually or through a sudden epiphany some will “get religion,” sort of like some of our Christian “born again” folks have their “come to Jesus” moments.

The problem is that when Muslims have religious epiphanies it seems a goodly portion of them believe that they must also murder a few little girls to sort of top off the experience.

What we are witnessing is the Muslim Reformation. Just as the Christian Reformation was a return to root values, so is the Muslim Reformation. The core values to which the jihadists are reverting is to conquer and/or kill all who oppose Islam, impose sharia and extend the Caliphate. This reformation will be as bloody or bloodier than its Christian counterpart. Thus it was in the beginning, thus it is today, thus it will be in the future.

For justification for their jihad/reformation they need look no further than the Quran.

Can you name something that Republicans have ever taken responsibility for?

Exactly why did Republicans trash Michelle Obama for growing a garden on the White House lawn and sponsoring healthy food initiatives? Did they trash Laura Bush for sponsoring reading initiatives?

Do you think the government should be making it easier or harder to sell unhealthy factory food in public schools? Oh, that's right! You think public schools shouldn't exist. Nice way to evade the issue, I suppose. Charter schools should sell all the cotton candy and popcorn and corndogs they want and the government should agree with them to reclassify pizza as a vegetable because of the tomato sauce. It's not an argument. It's a well-evidenced fact. Mike Turzai admitted it. Their efforts to suppress the vote. This is no secret. The Republicans have trying to choose the voters, rather than letting the voters choose the politicians. It's how desperate the Republicans are. What's stupid is believing that voter fraud has ever been a significant problem, let alone one that changed an election, let alone one where Tinyhands Trump's belief of 3 million miscast votes ever took place - despite his win. Talk about desperate. Is he a sore enough winner? Is any Republican? Meanwhile, what's Trump doing about Bannon's and his family's dual-state registrations? Nothing. What a moron. Just believe anything he tweets.

No, they are related. For example: immigration reform to compensate for abortion rites and other dysfunctional behaviors, and immigration reform to avoid responsibility for collateral damage caused by elective wars. Also, high density population centers to benefit business and welfare; and gerrymandered districts.

But I'm sure he identifies with that "leadership style." All backbiting, competitive leaks by the warring factions in the west wing to undercut the other, and each one upping the ante on the other by seeing who can put a news clipping in front of Der Donald's ADHD face quickly enough to get him to believe the news that that faction wants him to prioritize.

Feninine Fen likes that sort of disunity of purpose and sloppy, disorganized, chaotic dysfunction. It's the typical Republican circular firing squad.

One size fits all from the 47 pound girl to the 178 pound boy in the same 5th grade class. The girl throws away much of her food, the boy begs for more. She gave it to him but risked her job doing so. It wasn't the only flaw she found in the "I know what's best for the kids in your school act". Not by a long shot.
