"As the Yankees showered, scarfed down their postgame meals and prepared to head to Cincinnati, where they were due to play in about 17 hours, the consensus seemed to be..."

"... that if you were going to play a game this long, you had better win it."

Seems like MLB Network runs in the background at Meadehouse, same as here in the sumptuous redoubt of the virtually unknown.

I went to bed at quarter after midnight, EDT, after the 11th(?) inning. Some folks have to go to work in the morning. Woke up at 5:15, an hour later than usual.

Anthony Rizzo hit well, even after getting plunked by a 100 mph fastball. This is way too many strikeouts. Pujols is the last great hitter who has more walks than strikeouts.

A long BB game, but - the pitcher/catcher excepted - most BB don't do much during the game. 1/2 the time, they're usually sitting in the dugout except for their 4-5 times at bat. The rest is usually spent in the outside/infield waiting for someone to hit the ball their way.

Its not like they played basketball for 4 hours.

An especially crushing defeat for the Cubs after the previous night's crushing defeat.

The Cubs were up 2-0 in the top of the 9th on Saturday and one out away from winning. Then a Yankee batter hit a 3 run home run and Arnoldis Chapman proceeded to lock down the win. He shut down the Cubs after he had accepted his WS ring from them before the game.

As a Brewer fan, I feel no pity.

Okay, but isn't this true for both teams?

Really sad for the Cubbies, who tried desperately to avoid a home field sweep.

Doesn't set up much better for the Red's. Cubs loose leaving Reds in first place alone. Cubs used used 8 pitchers leaving them weaker for tonight's game. Yankees use 7 pitchers and fly into Cincy late. Probabaly got to hotel around 4 AM before tonights game.

After the Chapman meltdown I went to sleep. The gut said the result was either going to be the Yankees lose (upsetting) or lots and lots of innings (exhausting). I am pleased with the end result and my allocation of sleep.
